There's some information online that says if you get an employment-based green card, you must stay at your employer for 6 months after receiving it or else it will cause problems in the future. And others say there's no such rule. Can you clarify if there's any restriction like that and where it comes from?

There's a been a massive jump in EB processing times in the last couple of months, specifically EB3 ROW which is my category. Do you think this quick advancement will continue over the next few months?

garbawarb··on For the first time in history, more Americans are moving to EU than vice versa
Wouldn't they figure out you've installed a VPN on their machine?
garbawarb··on For the first time in history, more Americans are moving to EU than vice versa
In practice almost no companies let you do this.

If you know of one that does and is hiring, please share...

Is a green card the equivalent to a first time residence permit in Europe? It's notoriously hard to get a green card: it'll take 3 years for a normal skilled worker who's already in the US and that's assuming nothing goes wrong in the process, and something always does. Plus many visa categories don't even have a path to a green card. "Long term stay visas issued" might be a better comparison.
garbawarb··on Data center boom strains Texas homebuilders' need for electricians
Nice to see these data centers are paying their electricians well. That should make salaries more competitive all around.
garbawarb··on 45800 tech employees laid off in March 2026 alone
Is there any data on how many were hired in March 2026?
garbawarb··on China Blocks Meta's $2B Acquisition of AI Firm Manus
Manus started in China, and China is doing this even though they moved their operations to Singapore. This sounds like a message to Chinese founders not to build their companies in China.
garbawarb··on Health AI Startup Has Helped Reverse Denied Health Insurance Claims
It's amazing how so much of healthcare tech is designed to plug holes in a healthcare system that's very specific to the US.

Personally I'd be worried about growth if I were a founder: can this expand to other countries? What if the US moves to a public healthcare system one day?

garbawarb··on San Diego rents declined following surge in supply
So low supply is good for the economy because it keeps people working.
garbawarb··on OpenAI ad partner now selling ChatGPT ad placements based on “prompt relevance”
Same. I've found Meta's latest model to be the best at product discovery. Which makes sense since that's already their business.
garbawarb··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
I think you mean mose, nose, cabose.
garbawarb··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
Search the word "loose" in recent HN comments, it's become quite common.

> all he'll breaks loose (a doubly amusing one): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47835177

> So Ukraine should not necessary win, it should mainly bleed Russia and not loose. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47827489

> They are de-risking by spending more, which is a loose-loose for the customers. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47826823

Plus this thread, and that's just in the last 24 hours!

garbawarb··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
Indeed, but other languages have been around forever whereas I've seen this particular misspelling a ton in the last year and rarely before that.
garbawarb··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
Loose rhymes with moose, noose, caboose...
garbawarb··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
Side note, how did the word "lose" become "loose"? I've seen this so many times on HN.
garbawarb··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
We tell children not to talk to strangers but if a random adult goes up to a child and says something like "Why are you out on your own," what are they supposed to do?

Thankfully this never happened to me as a child, I don't even know what I'd do.

garbawarb··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
American children are in more danger because the country's more diverse?

garbawarb··on The hottest college major [Computer Science] hit a wall. What happened?
There was a golden age (2010-2020 or so?) when a CS degree of as basically an easy ticket to the upper middle class. Unlike similar well-paying jobs like law or medicine, a bachelor's degree was enough. Now it's not easy to get a job as a new grad, so there are fewer people getting into the discipline whose primary reason to study it was money.

garbawarb··on Tech giant Oracle reportedly blindsides thousands with emailed layoffs
In retrospect I appreciate that Meta's layoffs were "leaked" a few days beforehand. Employees could at least mentally prepare and Meta could save face by saying well we didn't pre-announce these layoffs.
