gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Agree that is the main weakness right now, do you have any hints how this can be expressed better?
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Right now it is mostly educational. It can also save you a lot of time if you track many stocks as it will highlight only important news / events.
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
We are adding other things, like what mutual funds and insiders are buying and selling. News and market are just a start.
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
We have that information, it will show up soon.
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Only when you zoom in or out the new events are either loaded or filtered out. When you just move the bar it should not reload. If it does it is a bug.

Market index is the best weighted average of the market/sectors/industries that matches daily price movement of the stock that we can find.

gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Thanks, fixed :)
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Stock/market divergence is marked on the chart with a green dot, might have to make it more prominent.

What do you use to filter out the news?

gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
There are 2 main things right now: measuring market influence and filtering the news. We plan to let people submit their own explanations and add discussions soon.
gaika··on Ask HN: Please review my startup
Thanks! Agree that most of the news are fluff or something that is already expected by the market. But there are events that have profound effect on the stock and we try to identify them.
gaika··on You can't tell people anything
Meditate until you top level pattern matching code is not influencing your low level perception and new patterns are formed based on the true inputs.
gaika··on You can't tell people anything
You can't see what you do not believe. That's just your hardware limitation. If there's no logical model for something your perception will filter it out. If you can read this you probably knew it already.
gaika··on How Porsche fleeced hedge funds and roiled the world’s financial markets
Stock market manipulation for whatever reason can cause lots of problems for other people. At times like this it can cause a market panic. Just because you have more money doesn't mean you should be able to fix prices. That's why entities who own more than 5% of a stock are restricted in what they can do (in US).

gaika··on How Porsche fleeced hedge funds and roiled the world’s financial markets
This sort of stock market manipulation is illegal in US. Nothing to be proud of. Germany already started criminal investigation. Hope that people directly responsible for it will go to jail.
gaika··on Humans are Naturally Tone Deaf to Probabilities
Log scale probabilities are a lot easier to grasp, but we still do not have a unit name for them :(

gaika··on Web-app version of Markov-Chain domain generator (be gentle on the server)
Ability to generate a two word domain with first word fixed and a second generated with markovian process would be really nice. All short domains are taken anyway :(
gaika··on Initial Thoughts on The G1
Thanks for explaining it, I always wondered why dropping the articles annoyed native speakers so much.

gaika··on List of cognitive biases
That's the point! Selection bias compensates for all your confounding factors. You're in the same bin as your friends. Same factors, same outcomes.

For example how many of your friends (or friends of friends if your sample is too small) are dead in auto accidents is a lot better predictor for your fate than any global country statistics you can find.

gaika··on List of cognitive biases
Maybe you should reconsider. Sampling over people around you is a lot more accurate metric than global statistics.

First you have data sample that is relevant to people just like you. That means that you do not have to compensate for other factors as you're affected in the same way.

Second you do not have to trust other people for properly gathering, processing, and presenting the data.

gaika··on Interview with a hedge fund manager
I think what we need to do is go to everybody's house and make sure that only licensed statistical arbitrage traders have black boxes.

What a great idea. I thought I lost the ability to be surprised by recent remedies proposed, this one still got me.
