I guess I struggle to see how that's controlling enough variables over a long enough time span to be meaningful.
If it's exposed skin, it gets sunscreen.
Many, many socialists condemn the Soviets, and even fought against them. Very few socialists believe that forcing the populace at gunpoint to be communist is a good plan.
May be? It's absolutely evil in a lot of ways. It's an active participant in multiple genocides at the moment. And has been for a long time.
I guess it could be worse, but being stuck laboring under Saruman's orcs and pointing at Mordor and going "At least we aren't over there" isn't exactly a defense of the situation.
So that's six robots for me?
It's been kept around because they treat their customers ok, but they absolutely exsanguinate their developers.
And their engineering culture is... odd. They hire senior people and then let them all fuck sound aimlessly. Their APIs are terrible, their infrastructure is all over the place, they still have patch Tuesdays. But because they are the landlord that owns every house in town, what are you going to do, not pay rent?
Gabe is out there cruising the world in a billion dollar yacht, eating thousand dollar meals. All that came off the backs of developers who actually make the games.
I believe the opposite -- people fundamentally want to help each other, and we've structurally set up our society to force people out of that mode and into a competitive mode. Read "A Paradise Built in Hell", when push comes to shove, communities care for each other.
If we covered everyone's basic food, housing, education, and medical needs, I guarantee you'd see crime and addiction plummet.
Do you feel this way about apps that gather information about you? "It says it has no tracking cookies.." Or apps that sell your email address? What if I claimed my product was vegetarian?
Like, wtf kind of attitude is "just lie about it".
This is very much not settled, and very much depending on your market. Selling games to gen-z? Yeah, they are going to care a lot.
The Dems are excited to move .01% further than they ever have before and call it "consequential". Dems are the party of "we won't say gay marriage is good, but we'll offer domestic partnerships... in some states" as if it's some grand gesture.
The party needs to wake up, stop accepting these garbage barons, and starting building policies that inspire people.
So here's your why: because they asked you to and you are better at it than they are. If you need smug superiority, you could use that too, I guess.
People change their names and nick names all the time. I don't go and check every value of theirs before I use their new name. It's really not that complicated.
I'd encourage you to pause and learn about the culture from the many posters here before making surface level assertions.
We can choose not to do it, I guess, but place names change all the time. Istanbul vs Constantinople. New York vs New Amsterdam. Myanmar vs Burma. Czechia vs Czech Republic. Swaziland vs Eswatini.
