gabrielblack··on Please Google, let us revert to the classic Gmail look
- It's slow

- It's ugly

- It's a bad UX

I am so disappointed that this one is the first complaint about a software I'm writing after Windows ME. So, a "welcome" to GMail ME. Please, Google correct it or give us back the previous version.

gabrielblack··on Ask HN: What are the most annoying things about tech recruiters?
1. Sometimes they pretend to have an open position "X". They do them to increase their database of candidates, just in case a customer will require that kind of profile in future. You know what's happening because, even if you apply for that position 1 ms after the publication of the ad, they respond that the selections are closed but they have "similar positions";

2. Sometimes they pretend to be an "official" and "exclusive" recruiter for the company "X" but after a brief search you can find out plenty of ad for the same position around Internet;

3. Related to the point 1 and 2, sometimes, when you require information about the position or the company, no information is provided because the position doesn't exist, the think you can contact directly the company that's looking for employees or both these reasons;

4. Sometimes recruiters don't know what are speaking about/ what they are looking . I can testify hundreds of example related to IT.

5. Sometimes they aggressively try to contact you by phone even when you, after receiving necessary clarifications,you tell them you are not interested to the position;

6. Sometimes they are spammers, mostly spammers by mail and spammers by Linkedin. About Linkedin, using it as a type of FB surrogate, sending tons of links with private preferences, kitties, funny viedo on Youtube, photos of celebrations in their offices, advertisement ot their customers, etc. Why they don't send the only thing you want from them ? I'm speaking about job specs of course.

gabrielblack··on How We Found Great Talents for Our Remote Company Without Spending a Fortune
You failed selling your company to me. Your tecnique seems just another philosopher's Stone that incompetent recruiters think were capable to find out and capable to engage magically IT specialists paying less as possible. Maybe it was possible only because, engaging remote workers, you can hire people in country with low cost of living.
gabrielblack··on Mysterious attacks on U.S. diplomats in Cuba have left them with brain damage
My opinion: the propagation of these propagandists bullshits won't help a democratic change in Cuba.
gabrielblack··on The Cult of DD
I think this article is full of "alternative computer science" and reminds me other article, published here as well, about the obsolescence of Unix. The only good thing is this discussion thread.
gabrielblack··on The Collapse of the Unix Philosophy
Am I the only one's thinking that this article is full of errors ? Starting with "killing zombie process" (sic!) and so on ?
gabrielblack··on Why I Don’t Talk to Google Recruiters
I'm sick and tired, too. Yesterday same 'retarded-monkey' style interview for a company here in Ireland. They require 5+ years of C ++ on Linux, knowledge of the standard library, design and implementation of high performance, scalable, distributed and resilient systems. Questions: implement a stack, traverse a b-tree, Caesar cipher, an example of polymorphism, etc. Honestly I felt they stolen 2 days of my life! I'm not a noob! In the last 20 years I had not the necessity to encrypt a socket with the Caesar cipher, nor to write a stack from scratch! How do you suppose I could show you that I can write in "high performance, scalable, distributed and resilient systems" ? Seriously they think this is a interviews for seniors? One of them asked me the date of birth "It's illegal but we need for it Security Reasons", yes, sure, take my vocabulary and look up "junior"!
gabrielblack··on EmDrive: China claims success with this 'reactionless' engine for space travel
It smells like bullshit: no source, no paper, no verifiable test available. It seems the classic scientific fraud that , resurrecting like a cockroach again and again in the socials, has only the purpose to feed the conspiracy theories.
gabrielblack··on 'Impossible' rocket drive works and could get to Moon in four hours
It's just another manipulation of a information to create nonexistent news for lucrative purposes.

I have the same question, the last adjournment I read was about an hoax, as reported by wikipedia:

gabrielblack··on How the Colombian army sent a hidden message to hostages using a pop song
It's very important to keep prisoners' morale high, so this initiative is very commendable.

But this isn't a new idea, there are a lot of pop songs with embedded morse code messages, for example, this Slipknots' song:

A tutorial:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dmitrismirnov/MorseMusic.html

Anyway, there are more creative methods to insert coded messages in radio shows, for example, some years ago, the italian police confiscated a commercial radio in Naple. That radio was controlled by a mafia family and used to send message to the inmates of Poggioreale prison. They used fake "inscription" related to the songs transmitted:

gabrielblack··on Ask HN: Is this fine from Italy legit?
Incompetent website administration.

I have shame of this but it isn't rare in the italian public administration services. I'm italian and NIVI is actually a private company that has a division that provides services to the town councils (E.M.O. --> European Municipality Outsourcing): one of this services is the notification of the fines to foreign people.

These are pages of some cities that are using that service: (Florence, english page)

(Rome, pdf, italian doc. )

(Storo, italian page)

etc.

I hope this info will be useful.

Andrea Rossi is a scammer. You can search the full story of his previous scam on Google ( searching Petroldragon ). It should, however, spend a few more words to talk about his academic qualifications: Andrea Rossi graduated in PHILOSOPHY and has also acquired a fake degree in chemical engineering from the "Kensington University," a university-scam that was closed by court order years ago. In this fake university has "graduated" even Kim Il-Sung from North Korea ... :-)

gabrielblack··on The Dirty Little Secret Of Inkjet Printers [video]
This video is missing the most important information: you can empty the tank of ink ejected and then reset the internal register which raises the alarm with a special software. In this way, you can avoid the need for servicing.

Using this technique I use an Epson printer continuously since 2006.

I have downloaded the software to reset the internal register of the printer from the Epson website itself.

I emptied the tank without dismantling the entire printer. I used a large syringe to extract the ink, with a little alcohol as a solvent if necessary.

Let me be clear that this operation will void the warranty if it is performed during the coverage period.

At this point I would like to do some personal consideration:

- I find it unacceptable to throw a fully functional device in the trash. Do this would help to further transform our planet into a big dump! I print about a hundred sheets in a year and my printer is almost new but the rules of planned obsolescence try to force me to change it continuously (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence)

- Why is it so difficult to build printers with a removable exhaust ink tank? Buyers should demand it to manufacturers of printers.

gabrielblack··on Cold fusion reactor "independently verified"
I am skeptical because of the story of Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the device:

gabrielblack··on Cold Fusion gets red hot and aims for EU
Do you know the Petroldragon story, the previous Andrea Rossi's "activity"?
