fxwin··on Tips for mathematical handwriting (2007)
the vast majority of mathematical equations/terms would become completely unreadable if you replaced single symbols with descriptive terms. You are going to have to internalize what the symbols refer to anyways to understand the formula, and once that is accomplished any additional description is a waste of space and cognitive bandwidth.

> They should have taken the deal when it was first offered.

That's a pretty good summary of basically the last 100 years of that region's history lol

> His base and his cabinet is full of the most hard-line pro-israel figures imaginable

His base and the people surrounding him have the habit of ostracizing anyone who doesn't fall in line behind him, rather than being guided by principle (Which is why Pence is no longer his VP pick, and why basically his whole cabinet is full of sycophants compared to last time).

Trump's whole shtick is to take whatever is happening, and spin it into "This was my whole plan all along", then take the credit for it. This is why you never see him give concrete policy proposals in interviews, and is also what will likely happen with the russia/ukraine war. Whatever happens is good, and was part of Trump's plan, and his base will fall in line or disappear politically.

fxwin··on Learning Solver Design: Automating Factorio Balancers
calling factorio the worst videogame implies you think there are good games out there to play - which ones would that be? (And why wouldn't those also be a waste of time?)
fxwin··on Learning Solver Design: Automating Factorio Balancers

Obviously the assumption is that "one day" we have systems that outperform human drivers + reliable data on said systems.
fxwin··on ’Brain rot‘ named Oxford Word of the Year 2024
All i've really got is personal anecdotes, but i've noticed that excessive scrolling (~consuming short form/attention grabbing content) in the evening/morning correlates negatively with my ability to focus on longer, less dopamine-rewarding tasks. This usually goes away after a few days of reducing said behaviors, so it seems at least mostly temporary (the same might not be true in teenagers or younger)
