fuzzygroup··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X – Part 2
Enpass is actually excellent. I've been using it steadily for the past 9 months and its the only password manager that I've managed to ever stick with. Right now I have it on Mac, Ubuntu, iPhone and iPad. Highly recommended. They actually have technical support and they even respond.
fuzzygroup··on Nylas Mail is now free
I looked at this app in depth and used it for about 2 days. Overall it is fairly usable and I liked it but the memory usage is killer. On a MacBook Air with 8 gigs, it uses 979 megs out of the gate and bloats up an additional 100 megs by the next morning. fuzzygroup··on Typora – A cross platform markdown editor
I just tested a use case of:

* paste in a Jekyll formatted markdown document * select all (which it couldn't do with something of 3,103 words - I had to do it manually) * shift+command+c to copy it as markdown * paste it into a TextMate window * The initial ---- markup to denote the header block is missing * The tags: [] array statement is converted into a header

I hope the author notices; it really is pretty.

Update: I just dug into it some more and there is a specific Copy to Markdown (shift+command+c) command so that does make it a bit more interesting for me as a command+tab paste / fix / shift+command+c way of debugging markdown hell. Apologies for the initial error.
fuzzygroup··on Typora – A cross platform markdown editor
I just installed this and what I found was that it works nicely but, at least on OSX, it renders correctly but doesn't copy # or ## elements during a copy / paste operation. It correctly saves them to do disc but doesn't put them in the paste buffer. Pity. Its a pretty app but if they got that wrong, I wonder what else is lurking.

I don't need another editor that writes files. I could, however, use something I can paste markdown into, fix a formatting issue, and move back to a text buffer in a browser / Github readme, etc.

fuzzygroup··on The Way We Hire Is All Wrong
I'm a startup founder and while this had been our initial approach to evaluating new engineers, our payroll company, PayChex, has specifically advised us to NOT do this. Why? Because it sends a red flag to the IRS to come after us for taxes for the period when they were a contractor.

Crazily enough PayChex has told us that the real solution here is for us to "sign" the person over to a contracting company so we can hire them thru the contracting company for the evaluation period. Yes we'll pay more for them since we have to pay that company's markup but we won't get gone after by the IRS. And, yes, it adds another layer of BS / paperwork. End result? We've hired no one because of this - its too hard to vet engineers without seeing their work. Sigh.
