funstuff007··on FTX balance sheet, revealed
> Imagine if JP Morgan Chase's entire value was in JP Morgan Chase stock,

It's way worse. JPM stock pays dividends in dollars. The yield on FTT is more FTT.

funstuff007··on Turn Raspberry Pi’s GPIO into an FM Transmitter (2012)
This guy is making arbitrary waveforms via the R Pi PIO. Probably easily extended to an FM transmitter.

funstuff007··on Tether USDT is depegging from dollar
It's hard for Tether to de-peg when BTC and ETH are crashing? When everyone sells the former, the demand for USDT is net positive.
funstuff007··on Tether USDT is depegging from dollar
Away from Tethers for second, given the enormous GBTC discount to quoted BTC price is there any reason to purchase BTC with USD rather than buying GBTC with USD?
funstuff007··on Warren Calls Out Wells Fargo and Zelle for “Evasive” Responses about Fraud
I know it's very easy to reverse an ACH transaction. The receiving bank (not the receiving account) is on the hook for 60 days (maybe more).

funstuff007··on Why is Rosetta 2 fast?
> it can also be an argument for instrumenting your runtime environment

Aren't JITs already self-instrumenting? What would you instrument that the JIT is not already keeping track of?

funstuff007··on The RS-232 protocol [video]
With a buffer, it's probably pretty easy to guess the baud rate. Similar to encoding guessers for strings or the CSV.sniffer in Python standard library.

dummy accounts that have corporate email domains? While not impossible, it's a non-trivial hurdle.
funstuff007··on Intel plans to rival TSMC and Samsung as a chip supplier
Nothing creates a glut like a shortage.
funstuff007··on Womp 3D – The New Way to 3D
For a consumer product this practice is indeed annoying. For a B2B or B2B2C product, it helps weed out the hobbyists and nosy competitors.
funstuff007··on Robinhood cuts losses after transaction revenue drops
well, not too much. The balance sheet is still within 97.5% of its all time high. I would like to see a good model of Fed Funds X and Balance Sheet Y = Z amount of stimulus.

funstuff007··on Robinhood cuts losses after transaction revenue drops
Well, they kept it running long enough for the VC's to get their cash out.
funstuff007··on Crows found to be smarter than we think
So are my ex-girlfriends (as it turns out).
funstuff007··on Why Tesla removed radar and ultrasonic sensors [video]
No, it's my opinion that in linear regression an inordinate amount of time is spent with feature selection and ensure there's no correlations among the features. When data is cheap in both X and Y, winnowing down X is a lot of work.
funstuff007··on Ford drops full self-driving cars
I blame the business side of the music industry and its adoption of poetic license from the artistic side.
funstuff007··on Why Tesla removed radar and ultrasonic sensors [video]
> because it's often true that you can deliver better by focusing on a smaller number of things.

This is true / dogma in linear / non-linear regression world, but of no real import in deep learning or Bayesian methods.

nobody's buying your model of the world and its infinite series of instantaneous of nows.
funstuff007··on Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far
> he desperately didn't want to buy Twitter.

I think it's more precise to say he acted as if "he desperately didn't want to buy Twitter.".

funstuff007··on What Is a Service Mesh?
> coredns and kube-proxy provide service discovery

Is service discovery an anti-pattern? Is someone is already in your house, do you want to give the burglar directions to where the valuables are kept?

funstuff007··on Since becoming Meta, Facebook’s parent company has lost $650B in market value
> No they don't, not if they have to spend the money now -- like on a down payment for a house

If they have to spend the money now, it would already be in cash.

funstuff007··on Since becoming Meta, Facebook’s parent company has lost $650B in market value
> I'm astonished that somebody could think stock losses are somehow less harmful than losing cash. That's just wrong.

People behave much differently if the make or lose $100K in cash, vs making or losing $100K in stock holdings. Wealth effect.

funstuff007··on Clojure 15th Anniversary: A Retrospective
> worried about every what-if

I hear you about this, but during prototyping one cannot be excessively concerned with did I change the global state enough such that it's better to just start a new REPL (and have to worry about the associated costs)? And if you ask this question a lot, long running REPLs are not a good idea for development.
