a bluetooth mouse and keyboard wouldn't suffice? I just found one on amazon for $20
fruitworks··on iPhone 17 chip becomes the fastest single-core CPU in the world on PassMark
the most recent attempt with linux is pretty good, but it was held back by the slow hardware and driver support.

If the pinephone had enough power to record a video, and maybe better waydroid integration I would use it. I like the convenience of using the same apps as on my laptop, and being able to develop on the same platform that I am targeting. That is a unique selling point.

Apple has the funding to do this, but they choose not to. It would damage their whole market segmentation scheme. It is a penetration strategy

The name service is easy, namecoin did it more efficiently than ENS a decade ago.

The decentralized services need not be attached to some blockchain due to the resource constraints. But there are examples like Filecoin and such.

I agree. I would even go so far as to suggest there is far more information availiable on the internet than you can get in a degree. Mostly it's inside pirated textbooks and academic papers.

I've been self-teaching cryptography since I graduated with an engineering degree, and it's amazing how woefully unequipped a degree program alone leaves you compared to the information that's just out there

Don't worry about it man, you clearly can't be bothered with it because you aren't extremely online.

Come to think of it, what are you even doing here, shouldn't you be mowing your lawn or going to a football game or something?

okay, but how do you prevent me from intercepting that communication.

Or even running my own copy of the local model and determing ahead of time whether it will trip the alarm. If the attacker has access to the model, they can effectively make a GAN to modify images to get past the filter.

fruitworks··on 14 Killed in anti-government protests in Nepal
How to win any argument on HN:

0. Start by moving the overton window to the edge of civility. Do not provide any justifications for your opinion. For example, "Protestors inside a government building should be met with violence"

1. Don't address any points they make

2. Make a snarky passive agressive response, thus winning.

3. Flag them for hurting your feelings. By discussing your ideas concretely ("who should perform the violence" "why?"), they have explored the "uncivil" aspects. This grounds for deleting their comment.

fruitworks··on 14 Killed in anti-government protests in Nepal
Who do you want to step in to save the capitol from armed right wing protesters? The police and the military are largely sympathetic to the right wing.

The only solution is for the left-wing of US politics to stop disarming itself. The reason that voting power exists is because it represents the fighting power of the voters. When you decouple the two, you create a power imbalance that gangsters and tyrants can exploit.

Capitol riots are just a symptom of that power imbalance.

fruitworks··on 14 Killed in anti-government protests in Nepal
The new tools are largely tools of surveilance and censorship, etc.

Essentially they are tools that affect democratic coordination more so than fighting. If you can still coordinate despite them, then the amtal rule applies.

fruitworks··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
Do we need code generated from a stochastic model of previous code? I think we need actual people who are familiar with the kernel and hardware and are capable of reasoning about it.

We are constantly reminded that LLMs are the future despite the real world evidence to the contrary. Look at what happens when LLMs are trained on the output of other LLMs, such as the low quality code flooding the internet. It is all a self-solving problem set in motion.

fruitworks··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
I think this would be terrible for the driver ecosystem. I don't want to run 15 year old binary blob drivers because they technicially still work.

Just get the source code published into mainline.

fruitworks··on Why Browser Company at $610M is cheap
The browser company is probably the worst buisness idea I have come across in a long time.

Who is going to pay for a closed-source reskinned chromium that only works on Apple products? The entire feature set could be replicated by a few plugins.
