freitzkriesler··on Tech mogul Bryan Johnson, 45, spends $2Myr to achieve 18-year-old body
Blood panels will expose wonky cholesterol levels and a prostate exam will show early signs of cancer.

A TRT service will require blood panels before, during (quarterly as we), and after (if stopped). Something men in their 40s should be getting anyway.

freitzkriesler··on An AI lawyer was set to argue in court – real lawyers shut it down
Lawyer Bar Associations trying their best to starve off the inevitable. If only ChatGPT was trained with case law and law school texts. Then when they sue, the ChatGPT model can defend itself. I'm affected by this too, but watching lawyers be rendered obsolete makes me very excited.
freitzkriesler··on There’s no such thing as affordable housing
NAE is about as trust worthy as the US Chamber of Commerce. Their biases seep through their text.

Where do those existing residents in those working class neighborhoods go when immigrants move in? They get priced out and either end up homeless or on section 8, that's what happens. No new housing units in the low end ever get made, only the high end gets new builds.

See this https://www.newsweek.com/why-are-we-spending-millions-housin...?

freitzkriesler··on There’s no such thing as affordable housing
Mate, its 2023. Use google. It's also econ 101. Where are all those illegal immigrants going to live? In houses and apartments. https://www.google.com/search?q=illegal+immigration+effect+o...
freitzkriesler··on Tech mogul Bryan Johnson, 45, spends $2Myr to achieve 18-year-old body
Trt gives you the hormonal profile of a teenager. Something exercise and diet will never achieve. A body like that at his age is nearly impossible without chemical assistance. Unpopular fact: most fitness people are on a combination of drugs for ascetics.
freitzkriesler··on There’s no such thing as affordable housing
You're over thinking it.

1. Eliminate the investor and land lord element from real estate and you reduce a significant reason as to why housing is so expensive. Do it with taxes, codes, whatever. You can own two houses and any more than that the taxes go way up. Landlords don't build houses, developers who sell their new builds do.

2. Eliminate foreign ownership of American real estate and limit it to American citizens and legal immigrants. -> see Thailand

3. Unpopular but true: eliminate the influx of illegal immigrants and remove the ones already present. More people + limited stock = high prices

freitzkriesler··on Tech mogul Bryan Johnson, 45, spends $2Myr to achieve 18-year-old body
And here's the thing with TRT, you have to jab yourself several times a week and get blood work done to make sure your hormones are in check. Managing sharps, sterility if injection sites, and all the BS with it.

It's like being a diabetic. I really want to get into trt but having to jab myself so much is what keeps me from doing it.

freitzkriesler··on Tech mogul Bryan Johnson, 45, spends $2Myr to achieve 18-year-old body
Body of an 18 year old. Face of a 45 year old. To those wondering, you can achieve the same physique with TRT, peptides (hgh), and a gym membership for a few thousand a year.

And you can still enjoy fried food and meat.

freitzkriesler··on GPT is all you need for the back end
Jokes are what led to Donald Trump running for president.

Now, this joke will lead to BE work that is abysmally optimized but some MBA will instead throw hardware at the problem and call it a day.

Congrats, you've been replaced by AI!

freitzkriesler··on Blizzard manager departs in protest of employee ranking system
The problem with stack ranking is when companies are international. Cultural nepotism ends up making this system completely fall apart.

Case in point, I had an Indian engineering manager report that had his staff PiPs entirely down racial lines.

Thankfully, jira and our GitHub repo proved otherwise. I gave the Indian dev lead his own PiP.

By the next year he wised up but I had a long enough list to can him for other reasons. Meanwhile, a whole year had to go by before we could can this pain in the rear.

This type of BS is why companies like Microsoft lost to companies like google or apple. I'm not surprised blizzard is going down the same rabbit hole.

freitzkriesler··on A custom-designed IDE SSD for old PCs
Silly question, do we have to worry about older PC OSes not playing well with SSDs with excessive read/writes? I'd be concerned about destroying drives in short order with swaps that are miss behaving.
freitzkriesler··on The strange and awful path of productivity in the US construction sector
You're going to get a lot replies nit picking this, but as a former construction PM gone software PM, I can tell you this: good skilled tradesmen are hard to find and their illegal immigrant fill ins (even the legal ones) are dangerous, do shoddy work, and will almost always delay a construction project. Let me put it into HN terms: It's like hiring a bunch of off shore junior devs to save money and then you wonder why the finished product is so shoddy or worse keeps failing QC. Then you have to bring in the $100/hr senior dev to clean up the mess. Not a lot of differences between building software and well buildings.
freitzkriesler··on AI Is Not a Horse
Real human intelligence comes from a place where we don't understand yet. I recall experiments being done where they could identify where a "thought" started but now how it initiated. Have to find the research now. Whereas AI are just algorithms which read data and process it into schemas IE we know the beginning, middle, and end and is nothing more than a facsimile of what we know as real bonafide intelligence from a human.
freitzkriesler··on Paper map sales are booming
I thought I was the Luddite, I have a leather bound north America map in my 300D for when the mobile phone networks get shutdown by solar flares.
freitzkriesler··on AI Is Not a Horse
I've been using "AI is algorithmic slight of hand."
freitzkriesler··on The 88x31 GIF Collection
You're not wrong at all. It's also out of necessity since most development tools and documentation is EN to JP. Its hard for them to find answers since everything is either in English or outdated.

Regardless, the mentality of ofjit ain't broke don't fix it is well engrained in J culture. It's something that I admire of the Japanese.

freitzkriesler··on The 88x31 GIF Collection
Ugh stop it HN, I can only handle so much nostalgia! FYI, in Japan there's a sunset of websites that are meant for a Japanese only audience and the pages are still designed in 'ol faithful web 1.0 designs.
freitzkriesler··on What happened with the substation attack in North Carolina?
Nothing and expect these types of attack to continue.

Our infrastructure was built when America was a homogenous, high trust society. Those days are long gone. The only way to defend against this are concrete barriers surrounding each and every substation .

freitzkriesler··on Microsoft has laid off entire teams behind Virtual, Mixed Reality, and HoloLens
Remember Second life? It was super hyped and faded into obscurity even though it's still around with its dedicated userbase.

All of these alt worlds are the same. Niche video games. I'm not surprised to see them go.

freitzkriesler··on An aggressive, stealthy web spider operating from Microsoft IP space
Must be, I fear the day we have all of these self learning AIs released onto the internet.
