I observe the same. Determinism is quite important to get things done quickly. Instead, typing "expl" gives me a lottery between Internet Explorer and whatever their file manager is called.

I'd still prioritize the basic use case of comfortably typing words, which to my admittedly sensitive mind is not supported that well anymore by some common pieces of software. Between the apparent round-trip per keypress in Outlook Web, the noticeable general display delay of Windows 10, and the frequent wait for characters to appear in a reasonably small Powerpoint presentation, I feel like I might be holding it wrong.

Nicely put. However, it does take some excellent judgement to avoid an extended crawl across the last few meters.

Your statement is obviously false (counter example: analytic philosophy produces conjectures that are black-or-white-falsifiable on the exact same basis as mathematical conjectures). Since you are engaging in epistemology, you may appreciate that the above is also an example of what falsification looks like when it is not formal. I'd suggest reading some Popper.

"any of the sexes", if you don't mind.

Isn't your first statement tautological? I'm also in the apparent minority to whom font antialiasing (subpixel or not) on low-ppi screens, e.g., 22" at 1920x1080, seems a bit blurry, even when leaning back. Certainly though, there are implementations of different quality: I find ClearType the most acceptable.

As far as I am aware, I have yet to see non-antialiased fonts rendered on a high-ppi screen, but it would be interesting to see to what degree antialiasing is still necessary on such screens.

frankling_··on Why Windows 10 Sucks
I'm relatively okay with booting up Windows 10 to play games, apart from the well-known upgrade practices, the inacceptable (if configurable) ad popups for Office 365, and my resulting lack of trust in Microsoft's future practices.

However, pragmatically, on all the Windows 10 machines I've typed on there seems to be a slight, yet easily noticeable delay between keyboard input and, e.g., characters being drawn on the screen, independently of the application. Whatever the reason (compositing? vertical synchronization?), I find this amount of input delay quite off-putting for everyday use and have not found any information on how to reduce it.

There are input latency measurements for Windows 7 [1]. I'm not aware of similar measurements for Windows 10.

From the motivation to the way it seems to be executed, this is exactly what I've been looking (and have considered to develop) for a long time. If there were ever a Linux version of something like this, I'd buy it instantly.

For now, I'm using Guitar Pro for persisting ideas, which does work for my purposes but is much too cumbersome to keep a creative pace - it does work nicely for putting down drums and helps a lot in multi-voice stuff, though.

frankling_··on When coding style survives compilation: De-anonymizing programmers from binaries
One might argue that the things that could be taught as part of such a standardized methodology would either be extremely generic, or can and should be automated. "Design patterns" and "idioms" are definitely helpful and necessary for practical reasons, but to me they frequently seem like good candidates for automatization. Maybe in an ideal world, the parts of a solution that are "unique", i.e., not well-known and established, are even the only ones that should be required to be specified by a human.
