I wouldn't call 3 ads on a 3.7k word article "filled with ads".

As this stream of negative facebook articles continue, I can't help but feel duped about my experiences with it.

I've quit fb since new years, but I can't help but wonder if I was played the whole time. I feel like they advertised fb as an altruistic platform, when in reality, I was just a means to marketing dollars and they fed whatever altruistic lines they wanted to keep me coming back.

Serious question: does fb purely exist as a company in order to sell our information? Do developers at fb believe they're making the world a better place? I'm not saying developers _need_ to make their career about making the world a better place. I do, however, feel like that's the line fb was feeding about their company culture.

I also want an answer to this. Being a top CS student at a top CS school does not mean that you are naturally good at technical interviews.

I'm not saying technical interviews are good or bad. I just think it's a different skill from what a student generally learns.

Proving to advertisers that the targets are real humans must have some value. I imagine fb somewhere shares a stat that's basically "n% of users personal details are verified with a valid ID!". IE, "dear advertisers, your ads are targeting real humans. We promise."

Even if all their data is within Redshift, you can still control access in a way that is more fine grained than just "everyone has access to everything"

Perhaps some people have legitimate reasons to access some sensitive info, perhaps not. But not _everyone_ needs that access anyways.

How do we feel about this?

For me it was/is the same thing- bored fingers go cmd-t + faceb... + enter out of habit

I quit Facebook around Christmas time. Felt weird at first, but overall it's been a position experience. The Chrome blocker plugin I use to enforce my quitting keeps a count of how many times I've attempted to visit it. I'm in the 40s now. If I spent 2 minutes per visit, then I've saved 80 so far!
