fortran77··on Xortran - A PDP-11 Neural Network With Backpropagation in Fortran IV
Yes! It took 73 years , but Fortran 77 was definitely better than Fortran IV
fortran77··on Xortran - A PDP-11 Neural Network With Backpropagation in Fortran IV
I did a few systems like this in the early 80s, but by then I was on a Vax and running Fortran 77.

Nice to see this. It’s a good way to learn the basics without getting bogged down with modern complexities.

fortran77··on Reminder to passengers ahead of move to 100% digital boarding passes
My 92 year old mother will never be able to fly RyanAir. She is unable to use a cell phone.
fortran77··on TTS still sucks
Stop blaming us old people for your lack of good TTS models.
fortran77··on I Am Mark Zuckerberg
Cigarettes kill. Selling loosies to kids kills.
fortran77··on I Am Mark Zuckerberg
My firstname / lastname isn’t common but if you google it you get a disbarred attorney with the same name. I’ve been asked on interviews about being disbarred; I know then that someone at the company is a sloppy “researcher”.

You are an awful, intolerant, narrow-minded person.

I’m an actual boomer. I don’t get offended when I hear it. I just know the person who called me a boomer is an idiot.
fortran77··on YouTube Removes Windows 11 Bypass Tutorials, Claims 'Risk of Physical Harm'
And we see how many people here on HN don't read the article.
fortran77··on YouTube Removes Windows 11 Bypass Tutorials, Claims 'Risk of Physical Harm'
> Then came the twist. YouTube eventually restored both videos. The platform claimed its "initial actions" (could be either the first takedown or appeal denial, or both) were not the result of automation.

The videos are back. It's also possible that a group of people "brigade" reported his posts for some reason. YouTubers attract haters, too.

Well then, this article isn't for you. Archive.ph doesn't have it yet.

fortran77··on Carice TC2 – A non-digital electric car
I like the fact that it looks like a "classic" car. I was very disappointed when the electric Mustang looked like any other electric car and not like a classic Mustang.

fortran77··on HSN-1000 Nuclear Event Detector
> PDC's radiation-hardened, hybrid, Nuclear Event Detectors (NED) sense ionizing radiation pulses generated by a nuclear event, such as the detonation of a nuclear weapon, and rapidly switches its output from the normal high state to a low state with a propagation delay time of less than 20ns. The active low Nuclear Event Detection signal (NED) is used to initiate a wide variety of circumvention functions, thus preventing upset and burnout of electronic components. The NED output is also used to initiate both hardware and software recovery. This high-speed, 14-pin hybrid detector is used in electronic systems as a general-purpose circumvention device to protect memory, stop data processing, and drive power supply switches as well as signal clamps.

They usually ask me to "count backwards from 10". I don't think I get down to 0. It's _very_ fast.

fortran77··on LM8560, the eternal chip from the 1980 years
I remember how badly these radios would drift off-time when running on the battery backup! He explains in the article about how the back-up oscillator is a simple R-C circuit because the power line reference is absent.

It would also kill the backup battery in a couple of hours. If you're in an area with prolonged, frequent backups it wasn't worth installing the battery. It was only good for occasional, short blackouts of a few seconds or less.

I have a free subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud (I was a long-time, early employee and negotiated this as a perk). One reason I paid for and use Affinity is that it DOESN'T have AI. I want to be completely sure the photos I edit don't go up to a "cloud" somewhere, etc.
