foofoo12··on Please donate to keep Network Time Protocol up – Goal 1k
They'd each fork it. AWS NTP for $0.01/request.
foofoo12··on iPhone Pocket
> beautiful way to wear and carry

I strongly disagree with that statement.

foofoo12··on Building a 2.5kWh battery from disposable vapes to power my workshop [video]
Interesting use of street lithium.
foofoo12··on Btop: A better modern alternative of htop with a gamified interface
Me too. It make it a lot easier to filter out the kids.
foofoo12··on Lessons from Growing a Piracy Streaming Site
That is a perfectly valid point. Don't send fun emails if you can't write fun emails. Humor is an absolute minefield to trample through. You have to cater for your audience and if you don't have a set audience you're limited to the lowest common denominator.
foofoo12··on Lessons from Growing a Piracy Streaming Site
> Send fun emails

Yes, do that. Also a tangent: remind me why you're sending me an email if you haven't sent one in many months.

Sometimes I see an interesting project that hasn't launched. They just have an "sign up for news updates".

Then 12 months later I get a standard news email and I have no clue what it is and ignore it.

At least start your email with something like "Hey, 12 months ago you signed up for the mega cool electron thunder splitter. We've launched!"

foofoo12··on I may have found a way to spot U.S. at-sea strikes before they're announced
Shouldn't we just trust them? Have they ever made a false public statement?
foofoo12··on FBI tries to unmask owner of archive.is
Big corporations aren't humans.
foofoo12··on US nuclear weapons testing can forever scar a nation.Just ask Marshall Island
From US documentary back in the day: https://youtu.be/wqdRIt1EnkY?si=J3Ntmgyx6P66RpJt&t=217

"The Marshales caught by fallout got 175 wrenchons of radiation. These are fishing people, savages by our standards.

So a cross-section was brought to Chicago for testing. The first was John, the mayor of Rangala Battle. John, as we said, is a savage, but a happy aminable savage."

foofoo12··on Some software bloat is OK
Bloat is OK when the alternative is worse. But have you really done the analyzes on how bad and how bigger the bloat is going to get? But it's still justified if the alternative is worse.
foofoo12··on VimGraph
I like Vim and I like graphs. But WTF?
foofoo12··on Dating: A mysterious constellation of facts
> wouldn't want a partner that mainly chose them because they have money

That type of partner is commonly referred to as a gold digger. It's very rare that gold digger will tell you the honest reason why they're with you.

It does happen though. There's an extremely high profile couple in the US. She was asked in an TV interview if she'd be with him if he wasn't this rich. She responded "do you think he'd be with me if I wasn't this pretty?". Brutally honest I tell you.

foofoo12··on How the US is preparing a Caribbean staging ground near Venezuela
It's not about the drugs. It's the oil they're after.
foofoo12··on Dating: A mysterious constellation of facts
> one makes more money

There's this joke about a man in his 40s. He goes to the gym and asks the instructor which machine he should use to look more attractive to young ladies. The instructor looks at him and says "you'd do well by using the ATM outside".

foofoo12··on Do you know that there is an HTML tables API?
We might be able to use rowIx? Let's discuss it on the next Monday standup. Everyone will need to have an opinion, max 5 minutes per person.
foofoo12··on Do you know that there is an HTML tables API?

  RowIndexFactoryGeneratorService rowIndexFactoryGeneratorService = new RowIndexFactoryGeneratorService();
  RowIndexFactory rowIndexFactory = rowIndexFactoryGeneratorService.getTheFactoryOrSomethingIDontCare();
  RowIndex rowIndex = rowIndexFactoryGeneratorService.generateRowIndex();
foofoo12··on Why should I care what color the bikeshed is? (1999)
That could work. It's like a variation of The Dead Cat Strategy.

"The dead cat strategy is a kind of misdirection where somebody will say something so ridiculous or do something so outlandish that it takes your attention away from where they don't want you to look. ..."

foofoo12··on You can't refuse to be scanned by ICE's facial recognition app, DHS document say
Sacred shit guys. I was hoping the sarcasm would shine through with the "at the moment". But yes, this otherwise deserves all the downvoting!
foofoo12··on Do you know that there is an HTML tables API?
Yes, and the reason for why that's OK is that the context is just few lines. But this is borderline due to the amount of variables.

In just 4 lines you have r, row, t, ri, l, i and c.

The full variables names are so short anyway that personally I'd write them out. Code does evolve and there's a risk of this suffering as a result.

foofoo12··on The cryptography behind electronic passports
I was going to respond, but when I looked in my bag of trollfeed I saw it contained fuck all.
foofoo12··on YouTube is taking down videos on performing nonstandard Windows 11 installs
Youtube also took down videos for Adobe a few months ago and HN deleted posts/comments about it: https://tech.yahoo.com/cybersecurity/articles/google-adobe-a...
foofoo12··on Cheese Crystals (2019)
We once popped open a bottle of red wine from 1968. After tasting, we figured it was probably the best before date.
foofoo12··on Doing my own syntax highlighting (finally)
> he suggests colouring just a few key elements, like strings, comments, and variable definitions. I don’t know if that would work for everybody, but I like the idea

I don't like this trend copying at all. The post he's referring to is probably written by someone with light sensitivity.

foofoo12··on 10M people watched a YouTuber shim a lock; the lock company sued him – bad idea
He just dropped a new video. Totally roasted the cunt out of that Easilok: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lS5_6D4q9k
foofoo12··on Nine months later, is still the "Gulf of Mexico" to news outlets
Let's just call it for what it is, The Gulf of The Dead Cat.

Yes, this was just an example. Using wildcard expansion will give you whatever order the your current shell seems fit. Bash does alphabetical order.

I usually do what rarely doesn't work well for you, but it works decently for me. You get 1 page per image and the image isn't compressed or touched at all.
