The housing would likely sit empty as richer people are a limited quantity market, and are not usually shopping for the typical quality of a rent-controlled or low-income unit. Meanwhile the working class folk you mention are sleeping in their cars in the city, because a 4 hour long commute one way from the exurbs is not feasible.
Ok, technically you’re right. You can make LLMs deterministic if you make literally every other aspect of execution deterministic as well - self-hosting and open-weights model with identical, reproducible logits, batching, FP math, etc.
The point is it is very much a “both sides” issue and some of the talking points across the aisle are pretty similar. That the administration is saying it only lends naysayers more authority, even if it’s not a moral or logical one.
Great, more ammunition for bad faith arguments from all sides.
Unfortunately there's a healthy subset of the Democratic party which is also against road infrastructure improvements like bike lanes and traffic calming. Car brain is an affliction which does not discriminate.
Not that there's any credence to the idea, but many residents of low-income neighborhoods in urban areas see bike lanes as a dinner bell for gentrification. Never mind that a ton of bicycle commuters in urban areas are from low-income neighborhoods themselves...
If you abolish rent control with the current US housing stock, you make millions of people homeless. I’ve come around to how it has hurt the speed of development but it’s an entrenched policy at this point. You can’t get rid of it until there’s enough housing. The alternative as you allude to is massive public investment in subsidy, whether that’s public housing projects, rent vouchers, or UBI.
The plant metaphor breaks down when you pause, take a breath, put the McDouble down and realize that intellectual property is a completely different ownership concept than physical property.
The godlike tools are paid subscriptions at best and restricted to a handful of corpos by the government at best. The free scraps thrown to the proles are mostly novelty. The other day I asked 5.6 Sol to identify a push prop airplane and it said “this is a helicopter.”
The point is, there are excellent doctors, good doctors, bad doctors, and awful doctors who should probably have their licensure revoked; just like engineers, or any other profession, there is a spectrum to the quality of service/talent/care.
For a while the overlay blocked touch events AND spanned the entire viewport so you couldn’t swipe to go back, trigger the address bar and toolbar to display, etc. I would have to swipe to minimize the app and then go back to trigger the toolbar to hit the back button.
I do think it’s funny, in a dystopian Dada sort of way, that the American attacker’s commercial product was essentially useless while the open Chinese model saved the day. How is freedom going to be redefined in the future?
