foco_tubi··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
I love low-hanging fruit in the morning.

You managed to pick three companies with documented histories involving violations or enforcement actions concerning workers’ schedules and safety, religious & racial discrimination, hazardous waste, and multimillion-dollar wage disputes. Burlington is particularly funny as an example because the government was literally ordering it to return more than $1.3 million to workers just last year.

foco_tubi··on Switching to electric stoves can dramatically cut indoor air pollution (2025)
Observational evidence is confounded by numerous variables, to say that “urban centers have clusters of asthma and rural centers don’t” ignores all of the extant factors of the urban environment. Studies have found that gas stoves could play a role in development of childhood asthma. It may not scale to the magnitude of that seen in urban cores, with the addition of other sources of air pollution, but it’s weird to discount the studies entirely as a propaganda campaign by Con Ed.

Tradesmen typically are paid to offset the health effects of their profession, but you get benzene for free.
foco_tubi··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
No one is claiming the entire workforce would be eliminated. You’re making that claim up because you misread something along the way.

Thanks for the heads up. HN really needs a blocklist.

No, distance events are still referred in kilometers in the US.

foco_tubi··on There Will Come Soft Rains (1950) [pdf]
We have some good examples to pick from throughout history - postwar Britain nationalizing major industries, Sweden’s soc-dem era, Allende’s Chile (though the US put a quick stop to that), Israeli kibbutzim…

You are collapsing three different questions into one illogical conclusion, leaning heavily on one of the least successful examples of collectivization in the history of mankind. One could use your line of reasoning to argue that because there are bad capitalist countries with authoritarian governments, who do indeed go door to door and murder its citizenry as political suppression, capitalism itself is bad. But they still wouldn’t be logically correct.

I’m not sure that’s true anymore, at least for Gen Z and Millennials

No, but you seem to be conflating an economic model with a particular governmental regime.

foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
Perhaps it makes sense to you, but I’m not surprised by that at this point
foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
That is entirely subjective, from a biological standpoint you couldn’t be more wrong
foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
That’s not how puberty works. Delaying puberty doesn’t make a child develop the “opposite sex’s” puberty. A boy on puberty blockers doesn’t start growing breasts because of the blockers, and a girl doesn’t develop a deeper voice because of the blockers. Puberty blockers pause sex-hormone-driven development. They don’t replace testosterone with estrogen or vice versa. The absence of masculinization is not feminization, and the absence of feminization is not masculinization.

I’m not implying that the single Reddit post you refer to is fake. I’m stating that relying on a single Reddit post as the basis of your entire argument is factually weak.

foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
Are you saying you believe if children use puberty blockers they will develop male traits?

Are you saying you would cite Reddit as a valid source?

Oof.

foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
Interesting that you apparently can’t distinguish between puberty blockers and HRT. When women use puberty blockers, it does not make them develop male traits.

What’s even more interesting is that you value Reddit as a citable source. What other valuable resources have you used to inform your opinion?

foco_tubi··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.

See, you can say literally anything without citing a source.

foco_tubi··on Europe's fires are just the start
While we haven’t known the exact trajectory of the crisis, it has been known for decades that the trend would generally and increasingly point towards “future is bad” if we didn’t reduce emissions. World leaders bet on having more time to shift away from harmful policy and lost.
foco_tubi··on I'm Sorry, Dave
If you don’t care then why did you spend the effort assuming what you think my thought process would be? How rational is that?

And no, if Claude refused to translate a half-baked illogical rant about open borders or defunding police or whatever left-leaning bogeyman you feckless chumps like to cook up to make yourselves feel like you are not totally fucked in your worldview, I would simply look elsewhere for that service. As I originally pointed out, no one is forcing DHH to use a specific LLM, or LLMs as translation technology, or any technology at all.

Log off and have a think about why you are the way you are.

foco_tubi··on I'm Sorry, Dave
You apparently missed the last part of my reply
foco_tubi··on I'm Sorry, Dave
Why do you assume to know what I would think? Do you have any actual point to make or are you just trolling?

Actually, I don’t care what a poster from LessWrong thinks.

foco_tubi··on I'm Sorry, Dave
To your point, no one is forcing DHH to use Anthropic’s AI to translate his stupid screed. There are a plethora of viable alternatives, including asking a human translator (who, depending on their own personal politics, may also deny the request to translate a racist editorial).
