fny··on Stripe acquires Clerky
I think the aim is to become the agent for commerce.
fny··on Zohran and the Short Link
Flame wars. City council will soon debate two vs four spaces between traffic cones.
fny··on Fake US thinktank set up and funded by Israel sought to game AI for propaganda
> Much of the generated content [from Russia] was to promote a self-described “expert community” called the International Burke Institute (IBI). The IBI brand was associated with a website which was registered in February 2025. This site claimed that the Institute was based in Israel.

This is the Russians using Israel as a cover. Not what the article linked is about.

fny··on AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds
The implosion in junior quality exacerbates this.

The cohort that started during COVID were first knee-capped by remote classes and exams, and then they lobotomized themselves with ChatGPT.

fny··on Every Model Cheats
Maybe the solution is to have "multiple minds"--an AI angel for an AI shoulder.

For example, this entire bench has an auditor model read transcripts to identify cheating. What not have the auditor inject the thought "Oh, but I can't do that. It's cheating." when cheating is detected in real time?

fny··on Degraded performance for multiple models
Despite the years-long moaning on HN about AWS US East being a single point of failure, we've sold our souls to yet another unstable monolith.
fny··on Linear algebra done right
Apparently, it's on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/linearalgebra0000fral/
fny··on Online clinics and influencers are promoting Cialis as a longevity drug
Lifespans and inflammation are ironically harder problems.
fny··on Pi coding agent: config folder is out of place on Linux
LLMs make it gloriously simple to fork and patch and existing repo. If you run into a merge conflict down the line, its a snap to fix too.

Just make the changes you want to your favorite harness and move on.

fny··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
This is a "they have guns so we need guns" scenario.

You can't guarantee everyone else will use a neutered model.

fny··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
Just like with people you need to tweak your approach when switch models--especially with a major version bump.

4.8 was the intern who lacked confidence who requires clarification. 5 is the know it all intern who fills in your spec.

As such, you need to be upfront about what you need in your system prompt or CLAUDE.me and you need to discuss your spec more up front (e.g "is there anything unclear?")

You also need to keep in mind that the intern will change based on popular demand. Most people want to one shot, so that is the default mode. If you want something else, you need to push the model in that direction.

fny··on Grok Bot
But we do live in this era, no? What is cloud compute other than a time share?
fny··on Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work
That should have been the announcement.

The article posted buries the lead. Cloudflare OS reads like almost any other AI knowledge base until midway when apps are introduced and then becomes overly technical with a code snippet.

fny··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2026)
Voltai | Multiple Positions | San Francisco or New York | ONSITE | Full-time

AI for hardware. You'll develop software for world's leading semiconductor and electronics companies.

Our team includes former Stanford professors, SAIL researchers, Olympiad medalists, and executives from Synopsys, GlobalFoundries, and Cadence. Despite the name drops, we care far more about execution than titles.

fny··on LLMs reward expertise
canine - dog = expertise

It's pretty obvious that for some questions a novice wont be able to drive the conversation towards an "answer". A novice may also not be able to understand an answer either. But there's a more subtle failure mode.

The vernacular used by an expert and novice to describe the exact same problem lead to different traversals of the information space.

For example, I recently asked ChatGPT a medical question using plain english. It gave me an imprecise vague response and told me to call 911. Repeated prodding did not fix this, so I asked the exact same question using medical jargon and in one shot I got what I wanted.

fny··on Software for One
I have used PWAs and online web apps for a lot of my vibe coded tools, but sometimes you just want/need native features and performance.
fny··on Software for One
This is such a romantic idea, but unfortunately Apple and Google are hostile to this model.

Of the two, iOS is /worst/ for running vibe coded apps.

You need to pay $99 a year to be an Apple developer if you want your app to live on your phone for more than a a week.

Distribution is a also pain in the ass even for personal use alone (you can't just toss around an IPA).

Finally, so many useful APIs are totally locked up. The fact that I cannot in 2026 extend Siri, for example, us infuriating.

Android is far more promising but Google recently shot themselves in the foot with their verified APK nonsense. Google's privacy posture is infamously nonexistent as well, and I have little interest in rooting a Pixel at my age.

Hopefully now that enough people can vibe code, these walls will crumble a bit.

fny··on The iPhone Upgrade Program is being replaced by Apple Upgrade
Holy hell--you can rent a 32GB M5 MacBook Air for $33 a month.

You can stick that in your closet for one hell of an agent playground.

A standard $33 server has trash specs by comparison.

fny··on Show HN: Segue – Save context in one AI, load it in another by a short handle
This is dangerous.

You're sending your context to someone's relay in plain text and loading it in plain text.

fny··on [dead]
A friend recently showed off a security scan Kimi did that Claude refused. I noticed the writing sounded uncannily like Claude. I decided to chat with it to see if the distillation claims had any merit.

So I messaged Kimi on Fireworks with "Hi Kimi!" and K3 responded: "Quick heads-up - I'm actually Claude, an Al assistant made by Anthropic, not Kimi. But hello all the same!"

fny··on Apple Will 'Watch Everything Burn' When the AI Bubble Bursts
Unless Apple figures out AI software execution and opens up their walled garden a bit, their hardware edge won't matter.

In 2020 I could write audio apps that worked incredibly well on a Pixel: despite LLMs! I still can get Siri to put tasks in the right todo app 70% of the time.

I updated to iOS 27 beta hoping something had changed, but nope: the biggest change is a massive black orb search bar.

fny··on Modern email can be built from borrowed parts
Is there any reason they shouldn't be the same?
fny··on Show HN: NameThatUI – A quiz game to test your UI design knowledge
How does this even get on the front page?
fny··on Fonts In Use – Find out where a font is used
The whitehouse.gov item is quite the blast from the past:

fny··on Claude Opus 5
Yes. You need ZDR at the account level first. Contact your AWS rep.

I have done this a few times for customer deployments.

fny··on Claude Opus 5
You can be stupefied and also pessimistic.

More practically, society should be reimagined around AI. You're comment presumes an outcome that will be politically determined: you can still fight for the world you want.

fny··on Claude Opus 5
This is actually simpler to implement. You can have a AGENTS.md describing who is boot at what and then you have the agents converse over tmux.
fny··on Claude Opus 5
Anthropic offered ZDR for Fable on AWS bedrock from the beginning.
fny··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
That was a reccomendation from a philosophy professor I had in college. By the end of the semester, I didn't even have to review my notes.

I went back to school at 25, and that moment made me realize why school felt strangely more difficult, and then I remembered that we wrote down everything back then.

fny··on Advertise in ChatGPT
From the article, it looks like ads are separate from answers in a clearly delineated way. It's not quite as nefarious as what you're suggesting. Frankly, I'm surprised.

This is only round one however, and I could see a future where they offer more "intimate" experiences. At least that's not today.
