flysand7··on Hot Reload Gameplay Code
> The answer is that the Raylib DLL is implicitly pulled in by game.dll, but unloading game.dll does not unload the implicitly pulled in Raylib DLL

Was about to comment on this one, this only applies on Windows. So far as my experimentation with Hot Reloading with Odin on Linux went though, on linux that would work differently. It seemed as though there was some kind of reference counter on shared objects, so if your main exe didn't use raylib, it would also get yeeted when you unload the game and all of the state would reset.

So if you really want to make this work on both windows and linux, you'd insert

    @require import "vendor:raylib"
    _ :: raylib
In the main program and iirc you don't have to do anything else. Actually it was like a year ago the last time I did this, I don't remember what the issue was haha. Pretty sure I ran into a bug with GLFW thread locals but yea. no idea.

What's a CRDT? Yeah... I guess a better start for the article would have been to explain the terminology and what that even is and what is used for. Because I have no idea what I just read
flysand7··on Goodbye, Rust. I wish you success but I'm back to C++ (sorry, it is a rant)
I caught a different meaning from this entire sentence. I think the author was alluding to the fact that even if you replace a technology with something "better", at the end it doesn't matter, because Most People will keep using Twitter, Most People will keep using QWERTY layout, count all of your acquaintances, I doubt any of them speak Esperanto.

Well at least the idea comes through, but I don't think it makes sense to argue whether Lua is actually better than JavaScript or not.

UI feels unresponsive. You click a button, and the button doesn't seem to do anything. In case of the left-hand side buttons, it it's just a lack of response from buttons that's unsettling, but on the right side its worse because there's zero action happening on the screen until the new background finishes loading and applies itself to the screenshot.

I would probably add some animations to make UI feel responsive. Something like make buttons highlighted on color / have a color animation after click, and have the application properly tell you when its loading something / the requested action is in progress.

I would also mention there's a very slight delay (60-200ms) between clicking a button and the thing happening on screen, but I guess that's average web application experience nowadays... so I won't complain

flysand7··on Coding Just for Fun
Ah.. this reminds me of the couple weeks when I just finished my university and was a little bit lost about what I wanted to do with my life. I'd lost my motivation for programming, as years of university forced me to suppress my motivation due to it being too distracting for my studying. So... I just played video games in whatever free time I had after job.

One weekend I decided to make a simple rhythm game, just like "osu!". To not care about performance, to not care about code cleanliness. I called it "recreational programming", just like recreational drugs. It's just me and the problem at hand. After making a simple "Hello, World" application in Odin and Raylib I got to working. Used a music from another video game, mapped it in osu and then transcribed the rhythm into my game's hardcoded beatmap format. Then added some hitsounds I found on some site with free drum samples.

I published what I've done over those two days on github and you can look at some of my ugly "I don't care" code.

https://github.com/flysand7/rhythm-game/blob/main/main.odin

I gotta say though, this project might have saved me from another depressive episode. I don't think I will continue working on my game until I decide what I want this game to be beyond a broken taiko simulator. But regardless, I moved on and picked up some of my old projects I didn't have time to work on during university.

Nothing is ever certain when you program in javascript.

The large ~~monolithic~~ codebases have a lot more CVEs

Who would've guessed. Also the older ones also got more CVE's than newer ones, even if they aren't that big.

flysand7··on Micro-libraries should never be used
I was about to jump into the comment section and say something along the lines of "but no one really thinks they're actually good, right?", only to see the top comment arguing they're good.

At one point I put the RFID card I use to access the building i work at into the left pocket of my jacket instead of right pocket. I don't remember why but that day I was thoroughly convinced I forgot it at home. During lunchtime break I went back to my home only to find out it's not there...

Since then I keep the card in my left pocket.

The advice of having a specific place for every thing is good, but sometimes you mess up. I think I have ADHD so most of the time I don't pay any attention to where I leave things, I guess developing good habits is good whatever that is. Putting things in specific places is I guess one of such habits
