It always was crazy that kids have to go to school by law but the meals aren't free. Seems to defy common sense

It's ok guys, the experts have spoken!

Makes me think of LabVIEW FPGA, where you could run LabVIEW code directly on FPGA, more like generate vhdl or verilog from LabVIEW, and do very high loop rate deterministic control systems. Very cool. Except with that you were locked down to the national instruments ecosystem and no one really used it.

I

Make it a combustion engine and I'm sold

My Brazilian wife always complains about how bad our American banks and money transfer mechanisms are.

Sounds like the world of demolition man

It fails more often than works

Writing code with einsum, and knowing what each index represents like time, space, element is so much more intuitive then trying to reason about just how need to transpose things so that everything works to do the tensor contraction you want.

I will be studying this

I recall that in high school English classes those kinds of recursive long sentences were heavily discouraged. I would love to write like Gibbon

No, name and shame

One of the companies I worked at had the no poach list on the company open confluence for anyone to see if they looked

I think any university press release should be not be posted

Yep nuke the bad env and start over. Conda is great only problem are when a package is not available on conda forge or you have to compile and install with setup.py. But then you can blow the env away and start over.

Same but I try to use conda to install everything first, and only use pip as a last resort. If pip only installs the package and no dependency it's fine

I heard you like browsers dog

What's crazy to me is how we have all these random unenforced laws on the books.

One day things change and they start getting enforced again, now you're a criminal.

I thought they had niche in finance.

How are you browsing HN in the shower?

Dallas area schools are really big on the "zero tolerance". My experience was that they care very little about nuance or judgement, just following the rules strictly

Thank you I don't know why people think it's so amazing. I end up sometimes just extracting the numpy arrays from the data frame and doing things like I know how to, because the Panda way is so difficult

It's ok to notice

Had similar experiences a decade ago and now I hang up if the voice on the phone has an Indian accent and block all domains that send recruiting emails where the name is Indian sounding.

Don't give these people an inch.

Well we wouldn't have Opie and Anthony's parody of it without the original. It made it all worth it

It takes a different mindset but clean and legible LabVIEW code can be written. There was a small community of professional LabVIEW developers who generally write very legible and good code. Different from what most people are used to but good. I left that world years ago because the writing was on the wall, LabVIEW was going to die no matter what you could do with it.

Disappointed this ain't about linear algebra

Would FEM be useful for that kind problem? It's more for figuring out if your structure will take the load, where stress concentrations are, what happens with thermal expansion. FEM won't do much for figuring out what the tolerance need to be on intricate mechanisms

What kind of political action can we take to stop this infuriating practice?

The Russian disinfo thing does seem to be blown away out proportion

Yes!! Such a classic
