flueedo··on SOPA Opponents May Go Nuclear
I think concern for us(the bottom line) isn't indeed the real drive. Roughly speaking the business of Google is the Internet. If the internet thrives, they thrive. That's one of the reasons why they don't need to treat Mozilla as a competitor. So, this bill could hurt their business model, at least here in the US.
flueedo··on SOPA Opponents May Go Nuclear
Nuclear is a excellent metaphor. Because Google, Twitter and Amazon actively doing something similar to what Tumblr did(instigating their users to protest) would be too extreme. Tumblr has only a few million users; Google and Amazon together have much, much more. I can hardly wrap my mind around the implications and ramifications of such a move.

I don't think they're gonna do it. I think they're gonna choose a subtler strategy.

flueedo··on Abstraction makes us stupid at business
Very true.
flueedo··on Why Technical Smart Asses are Technically Dumb Asses
I don't talk in technical terms with people who won't understand them. I would never get in that kind of semantic debate if I were the friend who had lost weight. I would however most definitely get into a discussion like that if we were both translators, linguists, behavioral scientists or something like that.

Consistency means self-discipline in his case. But many 'consistent behaviors' in living and non-living agents mean something else entirely.

That said, this made me think of one particular type of "technical smartasses" that have pissed me in the past: Lawyers and their legalese.

flueedo··on Would Obama Veto SOPA? Extremely Doubtful
I think not only Tor, but many other encryption/anonymizing tools will face risk of being outlawed. I can imagine many situations in which the work of intelligence agencies will become more difficult.

Along with that a conundrum will be created, since such tools are used by Chinese citizens to bypass their governmental firewalls, by people in the middle east to bypass similar types of blockages among others, etc.

flueedo··on The Great SOPA Conspiracy Theory
I find it unlikely too. But what's interesting is how this can be perceived as bizarrely hypocritical. For the last 10 years to this day you can go to CNET and Download.com and get software that induce/facilitate/enable piracy, such as Kazaa.
flueedo··on SOPA "explained" by The Guardian
SOPA "explained" in a ridiculously bad, pro-SOPA funded video.
flueedo··on [dead]
Boycotting Hollywood? Boycotting Apple? People forget that differently from GoDaddy whose userbase is composed largely of people completely aware of what's going on, the entertainment industry consumer base is comprised almost entirely of clueless people. I really hope for this to gain traction, but rationally I see this as highly improbable.
flueedo··on Google+: A few big improvements before the New Year
They have it. But only for few selected partners. http://adwords.blogspot.com/2011/11/third-party-tools-to-hel...
