I agree that you should get some psychiatric help (I can sympathize with your condition), but the 'battery draining while off' gives me pause. How bad was the battery drain, and was the device 'off' or 'sleeping'?
Maybe I misread, but I thought he bought a new computer WHILE he was interning. Not to back the company overall, but if he just bought a new computer I can understand why they might not spend the money on a new one for him when they extended the job offer - they know he just bought one, basic business sense.
Well, when I was learning c, Egyptian brackets apparently weren't even a thing. I have co-opted their use in certain places - I think it's a nice way to easily identify a lambda function, but I don't think I would ever use it in pure c. I simply like the way braces line up even if it takes up an extra line .. Kinda like reading HTML, you'd never put an opening tag at the end of a line, right? Anyway, I'm sure this topic has been exhausted a long time ago in a different post.
I totally agre and that immediately popped out at me. When I started coding I would do this to 'save space', until burned by the breakpoint as you point out. Then I started putting it on the next line, indented, until a more seasoned developer told me about the gotchas of not having braces around a 'one-liner'. So now what used to take one line takes 4 lines, but I'm sure it will circumvent a 'goto fail' bug at some point!
Just expounding... Take for example epicurious.com: super useful reference I've used for over a DECADE. I had no problems using it on my mobile/tablet devices, ever.. Until the mobile rewrite earlier this year. Rendered almost USELESS! If there was only an 'old version' button...
Exactly. As far as I'm concerned, HN IS (!!!) mobile friendly. I'm so sick of the garbage mobile formatting that is ubiquitous these days. Give me a clean desktop version any day. Pinch to zoom FTW. 2009 was way easier to browse on the iPhone than 2015, what happened? Granted, there is an occasional gem but they are the rare exception. Perhaps bump the frontsize up a bit, but I don't see how HN could really be mobile 'optimized' in a good way.
Agreed. There is a time and a place for everything. If table markup is used nowhere else in a DOM, it is completely justified for easily vertically centering div content (across platforms) no matter what the container properties are.
Similarly, I was absolutely baffled when looking back at 80's history that the TV show and pop icon named Max Headroom, was not, as I remembered and would insist as being named: Max Head-rom
I've been on and around many trains and yet I never quite understood the concept of the wheel flange and how track junctions worked until very recently, thanks to a kids show: chuggington.
Totally dependent on the scope. But if it functions well as a mobile (responsive) website, and your making that anyway, just wrap it in Cordova for App Store distribution. Easy peasy.
