Its probably not practical to use python because I imagine you'd need to include the whole python interpreter or somesuch.

I pointed a random domain I own to mailinator. Works like a charm and avoids this list.

Ironically there are a variety of typos in the article.

A paragraph is repeated and the markdown links at the end are broken because there is a space between ] and (.

ficklepickle··on An Algorithm for Passing Programming Interviews (2020)
They didn't specify needing to read the file line-by-line. You could read the whole file at once. There might not even be any new line characters in the file. You invented a requirement.
ficklepickle··on Winamp source code leak
Wait, creed is metal? I always thought of it more like Christian rock. A good tune, all the same.

A 64mb CF card in an RCA Lyra for me. Drop the bitrate to ~64kbps and you can jam most of an album on there :D

ficklepickle··on American spy hacked Booking.com, company stayed silent
My boss once bought a really expensive lock with a magnetic key. He was going on about how it was unpickable. When the key was forgotten one time, we found it could be opened by sticking scissors in and turning.

I'm not sure what the moral is. Your comment reminded me of this story.

ficklepickle··on Tether Discussion featuring Bennett Tomlin and George Noble
Interestingly the download errors after 79944810 bytes using http1.1, but 79928426 bytes using http2. Strange!

Thanks, that embed link worked properly.

ficklepickle··on Show HN: MaryJane – Mjpeg server in 30 lines of async Python
I think they mean the clock involved with replacing the image every X ms + the clock in your python code. You could remove the python clock code in favour of being notified when the file changes.

That's my tired understanding, anyway.

ficklepickle··on Twitch Leaks “An Extremely Poggers Leak”

Entirety of twitch.tv, with commit history going back to its early beginnings Mobile, desktop and video game console Twitch clients Various proprietary SDKs and internal AWS services used by Twitch Every other property that Twitch owns including IGDB and CurseForge An unreleased Steam competitor from Amazon Game Studios Twitch SOC internal red teaming tools (lol)

ficklepickle··on Why we picture bombs as round black balls with a burning wick (2016)
Pomegranates are from Granada. In French, Granada is "Grenade" and pomegranate is "pomme grenade", which directly translates to Granada apple
ficklepickle··on "Secret" Agent Exposes Azure Customers to Unauthorized Code Execution
I just spent the day making an azure app and taking packet dumps so I can prove it is their fault. Traffic to one of our vendors goes into a black hole, but only from the US South East region.
ficklepickle··on A stranger secretly lived in my home
I know it is a tempting idea, but forced treatment is an oxymoron. You can't force anybody to get healthy, unfortunately. As usual, prevention is worth a metric shit ton of treatment. Apart from that, all you can really do is reduce harm and marginally improve quality of life through housing, etc. Not that a marginal improvement in QoL is anything to scoff at.

ficklepickle··on Nuitka: An extremely compatible Python compiler
> Retry downloads without SSL if that fails, as some Python do not have working SSL. Fixed in 0.6.14.5 already.

Is this a good idea? If I understand correctly, if an HTTPS request fails, it falls back to HTTP. So an attacker could just block the HTTPS request, then MITM the HTTP request.

ficklepickle··on O.mg Cable
Dirty Mike and the boys will have an f-shack in there and it will never be the same
ficklepickle··on Why pigeons mean peril for satellite broadband
Pigeons are really sensitive to infrasound. It causes them to take flight immediately.

I built a device that created a ~1cm arc to scare away pigeons. You don't need to electrocute them, the sound alone does the job. I don't believe they can develop a tolerance as it is a survival instinct from living in cliff faces.

ficklepickle··on Wealthy Americans Targeted by U.S. in Panama Tax-Fraud Probe
In BC we have numbered corporations, it's quite cheap to incorporate and very little info is made public.

To look up corporate records, you need to apply and get approval, pay $100 and some additional amount per record. Then it is an ancient batch CGI web app that gets you results some days later.

I've been meaning to build a corporate transparency site/non-profit. Some low price per record, but then the results are public on the site for anybody else that is interested.

ficklepickle··on Trying to extract Widewine key: A journey to failure
It doesn't on linux distros. It's dead easy to record DRM'd media, although it takes a little bit of oomph to not drop frames. This is why Netflix limits Linux to 1080p.

ficklepickle··on Firefox lost 50M users since 2019
My personal favorite, it complains when it can't update itself on my Debian workstation and tries to get me to re-install it from the web, on every launch. Yes, I know google, it is intentional. That is why I installed it from the repos.
ficklepickle··on Neofetch: Command-line system information tool written in bash
Must be a pretty advanced bot, because he left a comment explaining his motivation right above this thread.
ficklepickle··on Learn Python by doing fun interactive exercises
Weird. Maybe it's because I'm using Edge. I just hit another similar error on the "addition-subtraction" one. I can't get past it even by "Show Answer".

I'll switch to Chrome and see if it persists.

Edit: Tried it in Chrome and the error persists

ficklepickle··on Learn Python by doing fun interactive exercises
If the author is here, it appears to be broken at a rather early stage.

I'm at variables part of the syntax intro and it reports an error, even when I select "Show Answer" and submit that.

food = "Pizza"

print(food)

---

Output:

ERROR: Looks like there was an error

ficklepickle··on Three programmers got fired, including me, due to a single app crash
I'm in a very similar situation, just a few years further down the road. I would gladly show you my cool scars.

I have often thought about trying to build a network of like-minded individuals. Of course, it doesn't come naturally. If it did, there wouldn't be a need for it!

ficklepickle··on Why does the world harbor so many different voltages, plugs, and sockets?
> If you plug a 16A cord to a 20A circuit and draw 20A from it, the fuse will be perfectly happy (everything's fine as far as it's concerned) but the cord can catch on fire.

Technology Connections recently made a video about this.
