fhub··on Iran requires insurance on ships using Strait of Hormuz, fees likely to follow
Paid starting it. Paid during it. Paid to end it.

Political capital + diplomatic reputation + military reputation + strategic reputation.. and cash.

fhub··on The UK's Teen Social Media Ban Is Political Theater, Not Child Safety Policy
WRT to how it was done in Australia.

"Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, began closing teen accounts from 4 December last year. It said anyone mistakenly kicked off could use government ID or provide a video selfie to prove their age."

So the bulk is done as you say but they still need* an age verification system for when they over-stepped.

* need here is because of the way the laws were written AFAIK.

I think you’re proving my point a little. You’re treating the costs as obvious and enormous, while treating any potential benefits as essentially zero.
fhub··on The UK's Teen Social Media Ban Is Political Theater, Not Child Safety Policy
A lot of issues require holding two ideas in your head at once. Age verification chips away at privacy and internet freedom. It likely also reduces harm to some/many/whatever children, even if it’s imperfect and won’t stop everyone. The interesting question is where the right trade off sits. People often end up arguing only one side.
fhub··on What's gonna happen to software engineers?
Four day working weeks would be nice.
fhub··on Shift will clean homes for free to train future robots
I outsource a bunch of things in life. Different things at different stages of life. Some of those things I have outsourced I don’t dislike doing myself. But often it comes down to freeing up time and, to some extent, keeping money flowing back to people in my community.
fhub··on Amazon Web Services – Four Years and Out
I think a key goal of senior management at any big company in the last 6 months is to make rank and file fungible or obsolete. It’s one big experiment. There are precedents like the Industrial Revolution. Things get worse for the workers for a generation or so.
fhub··on Waymo pauses Atlanta service as its robotaxis keep driving into floods
I'm glad a very wealthy company is investing in hard tech R&D. Irrespective of the projected financial outcome.
fhub··on AI is making me dumb
I'm curious how much you have tuned your CLAUDE.md file. You can get very specific and direct about what your expectations/desires are. You can also have another agent do a critical review with your expectations/desires and feed that back.
fhub··on I'm scared about biological computing

fhub··on How Mark Klein told the EFF about Room 641A [book excerpt]
Parallel construction poorly executed.
fhub··on Ping-pong robot beats top-level human players
This article shows them being used for offense.

fhub··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
Really good to know. That should have made it into their update letter in point (2). Empowering the user to choose is the right call.
fhub··on Ping-pong robot beats top-level human players
Not marching, but Ukraine uses continuous track machine gun robots seemingly very effectively. They aren’t suicide ones.

fhub··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
Their UX has been getting worse. No arguments there. But I feel the nuts and bolts under the covers slowly prods along in the right direction.
fhub··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
At the moment, cruise speed and manufacturing price.
fhub··on Schedule tasks on the web
Solutions like https://bugherd.com/ might make the issue context capture part more accurate.
fhub··on Health NZ staff told to stop using ChatGPT to write clinical notes
I spec'd up an implementation of this that uses a hardware button with colors that is in reach of either party. The customer went with a different vendor based on price/"complexity"/training.
fhub··on Apple Business
We use Jamf Pro for a small company. I'm not a big fan of the minimum 20 seat pricing model. I hope this will be something small companies can move to easily and have enough coverage to satisfy security reviews.
fhub··on Can the world get its supply of oil by bypassing the Strait of Hormuz?
For a less simplistic look at a similar question I'd recommend this article.

fhub··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
The current A/B test I seem to be in is that bad. But it will likely drive the metrics they are trying to drive.
fhub··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
Then just write the extra paragraph rather than bait?
fhub··on Show HN: Oxyde – Pydantic-native async ORM with a Rust core
Where ORMs are clearly weak is in generating suboptimal queries and making it too easy to create N+1 issues. My first introduction to ORMs was Ruby on Rails. You would rely on New Relic to identify performance issues and then fix them.

With solid AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md, I do not think this would happen as much anymore in new code. So then it is just a matter of style preference (ORM vs whatever else).

fhub··on Atlassian to cut roughly 1,600 jobs in pivot to AI
Profit is just one metric that affects the stock. YoY Revenue growth was historically in 40s and high 30% year on year. But last year was sub 20%. Investors are re-evaluation SaaS company multiples through a new lens of AI. Personally I wonder if Fortune 500 can renegotiate lower margin pricing with the "We could just build this with AI in house" BATNA argument.
fhub··on Atlassian to cut roughly 1,600 jobs in pivot to AI
The best task management solution is the one you just moved to as it doesn't have years of junk in it.
fhub··on U.S. at Fault in Strike on School in Iran, Preliminary Inquiry Says
Targeting intel was apparently based off ~2013 satellite imagery. By 2016, satellite images show the school was separate and outside the fence. (From https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/06/middleeast/iran-minab-ele...)
fhub··on As US missiles leave South Korea, the Philippines asks: are we next?
Israel tracked him and killed him with a Blue Sparrow missile.
fhub··on We should revisit literate programming in the agent era
We were taught Literate Programming and xtUML at university. In both courses, the lecturers (independently) tried to convince us that these technologies were the future. I also did an AI/ML course. That lecturer lamented that the golden era was in the past.
fhub··on If AI writes code, should the session be part of the commit?
I do something similar but I get Claude to review Codex every step of the way and feed it back (or visa versa depending on day)
fhub··on Will vibe coding end like the maker movement?
The “maker movement” isn’t dead and it wasn’t born recently either. People have been DIYing for all sorts of reasons for very long time.
