ferdek··on Google's Captcha in Firefox vs. in Chrome
I laughed when mouse hovered over it like the user was deliberately looking for fire hydrant on this one and then just moved on with rage, waiting for other images to load :D.

I honestly think this was the reason why Captcha's bot was so passive-aggressive :D

ferdek··on Building an LTE Access Point with OpenWRT Rooter
As a former engineer building LTE base stations - the title is extremely misleading.
ferdek··on How Qualcomm shook down the cell phone industry for almost 20 years
There you go! https://www.3gpp.org/

At the beginning of my corporate career I was working on implementing LTE layer1 (PHY) in internal testing tool. It sometimes took us weeks to understand a single page from the specification - those were fun times ;)

ferdek··on Buster: Captcha Solver for Humans
Shhh.... don't upvote this submission ;)
ferdek··on GNU Guix 1.0
I think this is exactly what I wanted to hear, will give Guix a shot I guess.
ferdek··on GNU Guix 1.0
At the beginning of this year I got hooked-up on this concept of functional system and package management. I've read through all the Nix documentation trying to get a feeling of how should I use it. And it just felt bad - sometimes the documentation was outdated, sometimes it clearly contradicts code on master, sometimes the programming style was inconsistent, sometimes the examples were unclear, too simple or too contrived... Thousand ways to achieve the same things and no clear "best practices" way.

Is guix's documentation any better? I mean - teach me the theory, but also show me practical examples making use of it so I could remember?

ferdek··on Ask HN: As a freelancer, what's the best app to track finances?
Looks like you might posses valuable knowledge that some are Googling in vain, just as you said. And you have quite pleasant writing style. I would strongly encourage you to document at least some of the endeavours you had with GnuCash, in your free time, for future generations.

Not that I'm using GnuCash or even consider it, heck, I'm not even freelancing. However, people like you, sharing knowledge, are what keeps the Internet alive ;).

ferdek··on Show HN: Buckaroo – A decentralized C++ package manager
I've made an account just to upvote this.

I've finished reading manual on Nix and just started with documentation on packaging. I want to have total control on dependencies, together with compiler versions and standard library implementations (effectively cross compiling everything x86_64 -> x86_64). From Buckaroo, Conan and Nix, only Nix gets this right...
