felooboolooomba··on Why I'm Forced to Say Farewell: Google Management Has Lost Its Moral Compass
And I'm getting downvoted. Make of that what you will.
felooboolooomba··on Show HN: ZeroFS – A log-structured filesystem for S3
OP this is the best advice here.

Since you are harnessing the sorcery of AI, have it write really good benchmarks, run tests and comparisons on competitive products, (and publish them), look up common pitfalls, often requested features, run security analysis.

Also with marketing texts, write your self first and then you can ask AI to hone it or give you feedback. AI slopped marketing text is visible from miles and really, really puts people off. Even if the product itself would be fine, there is some much slop slushing around in the pipes at the moment.

I really like this project and want to see it succeed! Don't let naysayers wear you down.

felooboolooomba··on The primary purpose of code review is to find code that will be hard to maintain
> The primary purpose of code review is to find code that will be _hard to maintain_

Says who? I agree that it's a good purpose. But the main problem with code reviews is not having a in-house code review guidance. Doesn't need to be long. 1 page would do wonders. Then we're all on the same page.

felooboolooomba··on Why I'm Forced to Say Farewell: Google Management Has Lost Its Moral Compass
Google: We're not evil.

Also, Google, later: No comment.

Like a slap in the face from a psychopath. It's not about "good", "bad", "honest", etc. It's literally the world EVIL that they no longer want to swear off. Astronomically monumentally fucked up psycho shit.

Dictionary:

  *EVIL*
: morally reprehensible : sinful, wicked
  an evil impulse
  an evil tyrant
  evil deeds
  the evil institution of slavery
: arising from actual or imputed bad character or conduct
  a person of evil reputation
Google: no comment.
felooboolooomba··on Oomwoo, an open-source robot vacuum you build yourself
> pressurized plumbing that you really don't want to DIY

They're fine to DIY if you're sensible about it. If you can build it, you can build a simple hydrostatic pressure tester. Pump, valves, tubes and a gauge. No computer parts. Pump the tank up to 1.5x rated pressure. This is industry standard.

But of course the age old saying applies: know what you're doing.

felooboolooomba··on Most rewrites serve the engineer, not the business
With a title like that you have to back it up. It's a shallow article.

> why it was worth doing, because it wasn't, at least not to the business. The application did the same job for the same users at the same speed as before.

Application have many other properties then "doing their job". Running cost, maintainability, ... it's endless. Any of them going seriously wrong can tank the company owning it.

But I agree, rewrites are very often bad. I've been the customer of two banks that spent years to rewrite their online bank. It was crap and missing features! But maybe they got something out of it.

felooboolooomba··on Monetization Gateway: Charge for any resource behind Cloudflare via x402
I've been thinking for a few months about exactly this and when it would happen. This is last nail in the coffin for web, at least as we know it. RIP Web.
felooboolooomba··on Sony Deletes 551 Movies PlayStation Owners Paid For
This might have repercussions in the UK. There are supreme court where T&C have been invalidated due to not being advertised well enough. The more onerous the clause is, the more burden is laid on the seller to make sure the customer understands that.

I doubt most of the people who "bought" the film understood that they weren't buying it and it could be taken away from theme at any time.

felooboolooomba··on Why I Stopped Arguing with People
A lot of the theoretic today and the 'logic' behind it bears strong resemblance of as it were from a cult follower. Reasoning doesn't really work as a argument.

There have been many books written on cults written by reputable people and some are even on youtube talking about this.

This is cool as sugar! I have to ask though, how many end mills did you go through milling G10 fiberglass and carbon fiber‽

I've heard the dust from carbon fiber is second to asbestos for inhaling.

I wish we had some standard filament testing that most manufacturers were willing to provide results for.

Until that happens, this guy here is probably the next best thing: https://www.youtube.com/@MyTechFun

Plot twist: many of the "special" filaments aren't special at all or at least very exaggerated.

If you remove that from your reply you're on your way to understanding why I don't like an absolute unit of a bash script.

felooboolooomba··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
Meta has a long history of breaking the law. I have no doubts Meta will have access to the personal details once you've "verified your age". They'll know WHO you are, as accurately as possible. Can you imagine how much that it worth to Meta, history's largest harvester of personal data? A whole lot more than $2B.

Now, based on their ruthless disregard for the law, do you think they're just going to use it to sell your ads?

felooboolooomba··on Bashblog – a single bash script to create blogs

I love bash for quick hacks. I abhor it for things like this.

felooboolooomba··on Should European housing politics be Americanized?
> European policy debates often become Americanized because of the American domination of social media.

No it doesn't. And America doesn't dominate social media in Europe, except repeated administration scandals, paedofiles and history's largest pedo ring cover-up.
