felooboolooomba··on What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph
Peaked in 2014. That coincides with my experience. Something went wrong:

* Moderation went bad. I stopped moderating/flagging after it was deemed unhelpful?! I know it's hard to moderate a platform like that, but giving me a slap in the face when I volunteer my valuable time is not the way to do it.

* Questions closed because they weren't "programming questions", but obviously about tools devs use every day. Again and again, they were the TOP google results. You'd click on it and found a old question closed because it was considered off topic. As a business, you seriously need to ask yourself some hard questions when you fend off users like that.

I'm interested in your thought process. How did you get from his initial statement opening of "A friendly reminder ..." to thinking that this was a scandal?
felooboolooomba··on Rebuilding My Homelab with Compose, Ruby, IPv6, and No Kubernetes
> Lot of kubernetes hate here, which is surprising

It's easier when you think of it using cats. A person wants a cat. They want a big one to deal with their rodent problem. They've heard that tigers are really big cats and extremely efficient in dealing with unwanted biomass around them.

Said person gets a tiger. They get an impromptu expedition to hell and barely make it back. Person hates cats, buys a poodle and advocates for mouse traps.

felooboolooomba··on P2P local file transfer based on WebRTC
No, it's best to write the data on a USB stick and see the person in real life. Ask for ID and do a retina scan. Then you can be pretty sure that you give the file to the right person. Make sure to cryptographically sign the data so the recipient can be sure it's you.
felooboolooomba··on P2P local file transfer based on WebRTC
It's crazy that in 2026, transferring files between two random, willing, devices is still a hassle.
felooboolooomba··on Show HN: Clawk – Give coding agents a disposable Linux VM, not your laptop
I use mkosi: https://github.com/systemd/mkosi

Which is just a front for systemd-nspawn. It's annoying you have to edit the config.nspawn to mount a directory if you start it with the "shell" command, instead of booting. But apart from that, it's brilliant.

felooboolooomba··on So you want to learn physics (second edition, 2021)
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.

I don't know what's the default, but you basically just have to pick the FSRS algo and you're good. That one is actually based on scientific research: https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition

Arrows need to be thicker. "Bold" doesn't work. Nitpick: "bold" doesn't really make sense in opacity settings.
felooboolooomba··on Modern decor may be straining people's brains
In addition, Sensory Processing Sensitivity/Disorder (SPS/SPD) tends to go with ADHD or people on the spectrum. Personally think those people are over represented in our line or work (IT/Tech).

The headline picture in that article is pure hell for me.

felooboolooomba··on Show HN: Ant – A JavaScript runtime and ecosystem
Looks really good on the surface. But if you really want to sell it, link to a comprehensive benchmark suit and more comparisons. Because if you don't, people tend to (subconsciously) apply adverse inference.
felooboolooomba··on A love letter to flashcards
Yes
felooboolooomba··on A love letter to flashcards
Flashcards are brilliant. Anki is finally usable after they ditched the hot garbage algorithm they were using. Previously I've used the Leitner method and I stil think that's the best one for me.

felooboolooomba··on In-browser programmable robot simulator
WebGL disabled? Devs really need to get better at notifying the user instead of just crashing.
felooboolooomba··on Copy That Floppy – Cambridge guide for preserving data from fragile floppy disks
I was a fan until I learned that I couldn't copy the audio I recorded, as an audio file from it. Sony intentionally prevented you from doing to to "prevent potential copyright infringement".
felooboolooomba··on We Got This Wrong. and We Are Fixing It

felooboolooomba··on Copy That Floppy – Cambridge guide for preserving data from fragile floppy disks
As a kid back then, floppies were expensive if you were using your pocket money or hard earned side hustle stash. Floppies were used, abused and reused until that dreadful bad sector. Even after the bad sector if you knew its location. But you knew the floppy time was up.

Kids today will newer know the feeling of unwrapping a fresh package of 10 floppies. The sound, the smell, the texture, the stickers, the formatting, the wast free space, ... as much as retail therapy is a thing, I think that was floppy therapy.

felooboolooomba··on Show HN: Docx-CLI: agents read/edit Word docs using 1/2 the time and tokens
I know that the office suite format is a relic which is hard to get rid of. But I can't help feeling that in these new AI era, that we should focus on leaving that proprietary format behind.

It is one of the biggest facilitator of vendor lock in in the history of computing.

felooboolooomba··on Microsoft Can Track Users via a Windows Device ID
I think the defendant might want to see this. Looks like an expert witness lied in court.
felooboolooomba··on Microsoft Can Track Users via a Windows Device ID
Yep, and firefox ships it to it's servers.

felooboolooomba··on Building relationships with customers through support didn't turn out as hoped
> didn't turn out as hoped

Personally I don't think hope is a good strategy. What did you hope for? What was the measurable outcome you wanted? It reads like a big investment with unclear goals.

felooboolooomba··on Generate parametric, manufacturable 3D models in seconds

felooboolooomba··on LibreCAD in the Browser
Having the sketcher as a web app could be incredibly useful, especially if it could save as PDF, SVG and download your current sketch as JSON or something so it could be loaded again.
felooboolooomba··on LibreCAD in the Browser
I highly recommend using a CAD with constrains support, like the sketcher in FreeCAD. Once get the hang of it, you'll never, ever go back.
