Do not believe what they say, watch what they do.
I'd go back to a modern Treo 650 any day.
We still don't have a full and polished NeXTSTEP replicate after so many years. The closest thing is probably https://github.com/trunkmaster/nextspace
I also hate the Touch Bar, which to me is useless and annoying, but at least it doesn't look awfully ugly, like the notch.
Yes, I did.
No.
Regarding infrastructure, yes it's new in Shanghai, but new != better. For example, the station floors may look shiny in Shanghai, but they become quite slippery on rainy days—a non-issue in Tokyo. Another example is that many trains in Japan have different air conditioning in different cars even within the same train, a subtle but welcome feature for those sensitive to temperatures—no such thing in Shanghai. Lastly, unlike Japan, metros in Shanghai/China still lack public timetables in 2023. A timetable can save you a lot of time by allowing you to plan your trip.
I agree that the integrated metro system in Shanghai is better for travelers.
For anyone who is asking why this feature is good: it's really not that easy to see the benefits from the documentation, blog or even videos, until you personally try it. At least that's the case for me.
It is a bit boring though. Maybe add some other voices or even discussions?
Tried to restart our app from the command line, only to be told they had disabled the API. And there is no restart feature on their dashboard. So all I could do was watching flyio logs telling me that our apps were down.
Sigh.
We moved from Heroku to Fly.io only this January, and are already considering moving away from it. The reliability is miserable at best. And so many basic features are missing. Yes it's much cheaper than Heroku, but we ended up paying much more time/resource/money dealing with its glitches. Defeats the purpose why we used a PaaS in the first place.
The product is far less mature than Heroku and the pricing is confusing. For example, it took us 3 days to figure out how to run Redis properly (their integrated UpStash Redis has quite a few bugs. We ended up going with self-host Redis on fly.io). Besides, we have no idea on how the pricing would work when fly.io shows our app as one app but there are actually 3 processes running (web, Sidekiq and Redis).
The good part is it's seems much cheaper. And because it has more edge nodes to choose from, it's also much faster in our case.
It sounds nothing, but looking at Nginx logs scrolling on a tiny phone screen is so unbelievable.
A modern replica of NeXTSTEP.
