fekberg··on Microsoft Paying Bloggers to Write about Internet Explorer
My bad, I missed that so deleted the parent comment as it made no sense at all. I really hoped that wouldn't be true, that they offered real money that is. I'd be OK with plain stickers..
fekberg··on YouTube's Biggest Draw Plays Games, Earns $4 Million a Year
Right, so there's a 57% income tax. But if it's a sole proprietorship he also has to pay the "employer tax" or whatever it is called.

I know nothing about taxation in UK, but I guess it also depends on where he has his company (if any) registered. Either way, it's a lot of money even if a lot of it is tax.

fekberg··on YouTube's Biggest Draw Plays Games, Earns $4 Million a Year
'disappear' was probably a wrongly used word. It's money that will never be his, the income tax is paid to the government and they use it like any other tax money.

There are different levels taxation in Sweden if I recall correctly the upper level takes out 70% of the income, that is income earned after $200.000. So if I understand it correctly that would mean he needs to pay $2.660.000 in taxes on those $4 million.

I could be wrong though, but that is my understanding of it. If he's got a corporation where the money goes, that's an entirely different thing. My assumptions are it's a sole proprietorship or equal to that.

I'm close to 30 (oh my, can't believe I just said that) and I still find some of his videos amusing. It's like any type of tv-show, sitcom or movie: we all like different things and have different humor. His channel appeals to a lot of people and he's probably inspiring a lot of people (hopefully).
fekberg··on YouTube's Biggest Draw Plays Games, Earns $4 Million a Year
> The 24-year-old Mr. Kjellberg, who created PewDiePie five years ago, has parlayed his persona into a brand name that pulls in the equivalent of $4 million in ad sales a year, most of it pure profit.

If it's $4 million "mostly profit" I would take that as what he gets before taxes. If he pays his taxes in Sweden I think closer to 70% of that would disappear.

fekberg··on From Parallel to Concurrent [video]
I must have miss-read, or was the original edited? Reading it again now it's clear that the person means "Wow this works without hoping through 15 things. I'll leave my links for anyone else that might be interested.
fekberg··on From Parallel to Concurrent [video]
Here's a direct video link to the High Quality version: http://media.ch9.ms/ch9/33cf/90b47d47-96f9-4fc2-a9f6-933446b...

Mind you, that is 1.7GB.

Smaller size for your phone: http://media.ch9.ms/ch9/33cf/90b47d47-96f9-4fc2-a9f6-933446b... (this one is 86MB)

Edit: I miss-read, I read it as a question and a statement that it didn't work and as a request for a direct video link that you can wget. I'll keep the links here for anyone that might want them.

fekberg··on Netflix replies to Verizon cease and desist letter
Hence why I said "I know it's not really realistic". To answer your question though, I have no idea. Do you? I'd love to know what an ISP builds to expect in the terms of constant traffic..
fekberg··on Netflix replies to Verizon cease and desist letter
The traffic exchange would only occur once a customer routing data over a Verizon network uses Netflix, no? Meaning that the 35% of the Verizon network usage that Netflix uses, is due to customers actually using the connection they pay for, no?

As an ISP, I think if you are offering 100Mbps unlimited in/out, you should Expect full thrust from every connection, or at least be capable of delivering that. I know it's not really realistic, they need to assume that some people, sometimes are disconnected but if I am paying for a connection and a certain level of throughput, I expect to get that.

Just my point of view, correct me if my assumptions are incorrect!

fekberg··on HipChat is now free for unlimited users
HipChat is great, but I've found myself much more often on JabbR (https://jabbr.net/) to be honest. Might be because I am a sucker for SignalR.

JabbR is also free to use, you can have private team rooms if you so like and it integrates with a bunch of auth services.

fekberg··on C# 6: First reactions
I've written a little bit more about them using the examples from CodePlex on my blog ( http://blog.filipekberg.se/2014/04/04/microsoft-open-sources... ).

There were also some interesting discussions on the C# sub-reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/csharp/comments/225g4b/microsoft_ope...

Hope that helps and answers some of the questions you have!

fekberg··on MLB.com is using my Google Analytics code
That's good to know, thanks. I've seen too many companies starting to charge you instead of giving you a fair warning.
fekberg··on MLB.com is using my Google Analytics code
Doesn't Google Analytics cost money after a certain amount of hits per day/month? If that is the case and the gap was hit, would MLB.com be liable to pay the fees?
fekberg··on Textbooks Prices: Out of Control
Perks of self-publishing is that I can decide the price of my book myself. I believe that more people will buy my book if it is cheaper and hopefully everyone will like the book and tell their friends that this book is both good and cheap. It's a win win.

I can price my book so that when someone buys it, after taxes and all that I can at least buy myself a coffee while working on the next project. I see it as a "Thank you for helping me, here's a coffee".

I understand that books from larger publishing houses are more expensive because there are more people that needs a coffee to some extent there's just too large of a margin or too many coffees that needs to be handed out.

Based on how many copies I've sold from self-publishing I've been able to get myself more than a coffee, but the individuals that bought the book didn't have to suffer too much economically as I don't price the book in the range of a new mobile phone.

Roslyn doesn't prevent you from doing that though. You still need to validate, filter and run your code in a sandbox.
fekberg··on A recreation of the first level of Super Mario Bros. in Python
I'm impressed! The code is well structured and you're using Python and PyGame, which is awesome! Well done!

For anyone wanting to learn Python and PyGame I'll just leave this here: http://pluralsight.com/training/Courses/TableOfContents/game...

fekberg··on KeePass: OpenSource Password Manager
A while back I set off half a day to setup KeePass, not that setting up KeePass takes that long - but generating random passwords for all the sites that I use did. KeePass is great, there's an app for Windows Phone that is great and there is a third party plugin for Chrome that will both enter and help me save passwords when the vault is open.

Great software, everyone should be using password vaults.

fekberg··on Adobe to Require New Epub DRM in July, Expects to Abandon Existing Users
When I converted my book to Epub and Mobi I just focused on embedding watermarks/serial numbers so I can identify where the leak is if it leaks. However, I trust the people that bought my book to understand how much effort I put into it and that if they would share it with someone else; it would really hurt my feelings. However, I would never prevent them from putting the book on all their different devices.
fekberg··on Developing Good Software is Damn Hard
Not at all! I completely understand where the question is coming from! Thanks! :)

It's funny because I do find that more and more of the topics that were on the table back in school are coming back more important than ever, as I try to talk about in the post.

I knew about some Domain-driven development, Dependency Injection, Inversion of Control, Scrum and all the buzz-words that you usually hear. I hadn't put them to as much practice as I get to do now. It's a really well engineered project and I'm lucky to be on it. All the mentioned pattern and practices that I knew a bit about, that understanding has at least doubled by just working with it for a couple of weeks.

In a couple of months or so it will most likely feel like I've done this forever and I'll look at this as trivial work, but then something else comes up and you'll learn even more about another pattern. Am I making any sense? Did I somewhat answer the question? I'd be happy to go into more detail if you have any follow up questions or if I didn't answer your questions at all.

fekberg··on Developing Good Software is Damn Hard
I work for Readify in Sydney! I really do hope the feeling continues!
fekberg··on Developing Good Software is Damn Hard
It's just a title and has nothing to do with the age.
fekberg··on How to Give a Talk

fekberg··on Hello Nancy
Yeah I think so, seen that mentioned somewhere.
fekberg··on Turn O(n^2) reverse into O(n)
I agree with you on that, in this case it wasn't fast enough though. I think "optimize" should be a part of the "refactoring" phase.
fekberg··on Turn O(n^2) reverse into O(n)
I recall when I studied algorithms and data structures, but just swapping to using references/pointers instead of copying memory, I could speed up my algorithms ridiculously. Correct me if I am wrong. "Small" things like these (as we just saw) can be really beneficial!
fekberg··on Turn O(n^2) reverse into O(n)
Shouldn't we optimize all our programs?
fekberg··on Hey Latex users, I have an idea for you
I used LaTeX when writing my programming book (C# Smorgasbord) and I am really glad I didn't use HTML for it. There was just so much out there to make the whole process good and I could really focus on the content with minimal markup. Except all the stuff you need in your preamble that is.

When I had written the book, I just used tex4ht and it spit out HTML that was decent, I could just apply a minimal amount of work and apply some CSS and then I had the epub and mobi.

I'm happy with LaTeX but I'm probably never writing another book (or I might..)!

fekberg··on Show HN: DotNetFiddle – JsFiddle for .Net
Nice work! Is this inspired by Compilify? How are you securing execution? Source? I did a blog post a long time ago on hosted execution with Roslyn and that is how we do it with Compilify (which is open source).
