fefb··on Headless Chrome support in Cloud Functions and App Engine
I am getting a different price from GCP calculator. Almost $2000. In your example, 10functions por Second, so each function is taking 1000ms to finish. 2592000s in a month * 10invocation = 25920000 invocations month, running with a 1GB function and 500kb of network bandwidth (out). https://cloud.google.com/products/calculator/#id=555e1af7-c8...

For reference, how did you get $427? Thanks in advance
fefb··on Is serverless insecure? Let's find out
It is not connected to a remote terminal in the normal way. It is just a design terminal, where your input is send to a lambda running NodeJS that runs your command using a childProcess.execSync(command).

So each command typed is a lambda invocation.

fefb··on How we spent $30k in Firebase in less than 72 hours
They are using serverless architecture. Firestore is a "Daas". The latency for loading the page wasn't the real problem, it was the side-effect. The real problem resulted in 40bilion request, they were requesting all the collection of payments in each session. It reaches 16K documents downloaded /session, so they were paying 16K reads documents for session. Firestore gives you 50K reads/day for free, and ask $0.06 for 100K reads. So It was a really bad logical approaching from them. If they did in a best way , like update a document that holds the two accumulators : total money accumulated and total payments created, and read just this document in each session request their bill to show this information for 2M session should be less than $2, because you are reading 1 document for session instead of 16K documents. And pay attention that their system wasn't down, probably the 30s latency was a side-effect of downloading 16K document of each payment information in the client side.

It won't resolve the problem

Hey, thanks for listening.

I believe in short time would be nice to have a way to use for the query the create, update and write time of a document. Now, I am doing the creat time manage inside of my document with Date.now(), but when I was running a bunch of promises to create the documents, the createTime between the documents that I was manipulating was in same case the same, so my pagination failed.

Another things, like compound queries inside of subcollections should be nice. A way to export all the database for backup.

A flag to alert the Firestore to return the document when I do an update in this document in the same response (one round trip (dynamoDb has it). I know I can reach this goal witht transaction, but I believe it is simpler than a transaction.

A way to update a array without transaction.

Thanks

The link posted is talking about the Firestore and not the Real Time. Firestore is in beta state that has a beta limit of 100k sim. connections, probably off beta it will be able to handle more connections. The Real Time has 100K limit and is a centralized db.
fefb··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2018)
Wow it's a cool field, I never thought about the complex system that shipping containers can be.
fefb··on Stripe Press
Nice vision.

Off topic. Why is the Stripe Brazil so slow to start working in Brazil? I believe Brazil has an huge space to growths in online payments, and if it process "boletos" (a Brazilian way to pay stuff) besides credit card will be very helpful.

I just got a copy to my Drive, and I saved as epub where I can read as an ebook.
fefb··on REST vs. GraphQL APIs, the Good, the Bad, the Ugly
No, you don't need Apollo or Relay to make the GraphQL work. The query of a GraphQL system is a string that represent the value of a GraphQL script. You can send this string using any protocol that you want, usually is by http with the verb POST. For execute the script in the server, in NodeJS for example, you just pass the string to a function that returns a promise. When the process is done you sent the response to the client. For example, I am using pure GraphQL with serverlesss. The client post the script to my function, my function execute the graphql promise and response the client.
fefb··on Ask HN: When to use Servers and when to go Serverless?
Do you know how remoteok make money? Thanks
fefb··on Tell HN: What I should have noticed
I am sorry. I dont know what to say to help you. We cant go to back and make a new beginning, but we can start to do now a new end. And get justice.

I desire good energy for you and your family, and give a chance to forgive yourself. The bad in this world is not a cross that you should carry alone.

fefb··on Ask HN: What stack would you use to build a CRUD web app in 2018?
For the APP I 'd use ReactJS

For the compute back-end I'd use Serverless Lambda or Google Functions, nodejs.

For the database I' d use Firestore or datastore

For the communication between client and back, I'd use GraphQL.

fefb··on Dropbox saved almost $75M over two years by moving out of AWS
Do you have some solution for http triggers? Like your own gateway? Because I found the AWS Gateway expensive to trigger Lambda by http events.
fefb··on Peace and quiet is all about the noise in your head
Salvador is the capital of the Bahia a state of Brazil. The city has almost 3 millions of people, and it is know for its famous Carnaval parties in the summer. What were you hoping for? A silence place?
fefb··on Promises are not neutral enough
I rarely use promises. Just for the most simplest logics. When a package return promises in its API, I just use Rx.Observable.fromPromise(theRomise) . ReactiveX, especially RxJS, is so powerful to handle async events, from differents sources to differents logics. You can build powerful pipelines with it.
fefb··on Ask HN: Which Serverless Database do you use? Why
DynamoDB and Google Datastore.

Give a look in the Google datastore

fefb··on Ask HN: Scaling to 100k outgoing transfers per account per hour
I don't know what techs you are using, but I would suggest you looking for:

* Google Spanner (relational) or Datastore (no SQL with ACID)

* NodeJS app running in some instance as gateway with Google Functions, or just Google Functions.

fefb··on Making a Raspberry Pi-Powered AI to Play Piano
Can't you use the generative adversarial networks?

Where the discriminator IA would learn to identify good melodies from real data. After that, the generator would try to make a good melodie to be approve for the discriminator IA. Thus you could play the generator melodie .

fefb··on Deploying a TypeScript and Node AWS Lambda Function with Serverless
Cool article. I am trying to learning AWS Lambda, it will help to build something .

Thanks for sharing.

fefb··on Ask HN: Getting started with hardware development?
If you want some tree way model to learn, you can start:

1- studying the difference types of transistor ( bipolares -> NPN, PNP; unipolares -> MOSFET, JFET). How they works, how you can build logic with them.

2 - Understanding the simple ports ( or, and, not, xor), how they works, how they are build with transistors. Learn the method of Karnaugh.

3 - Learn some circuits like the differents type of flipflops, ULA, Mux, Demux, registers. Asynchronous and Synchronous system.

4 - Learn how state machine works, the Moore and Mealy models.

5 - Study the Data and Control Path of a CPU. You can do some dedicated circuits.

6 - Learn some Design hardware language like Verilog or VHDL, and implement your circuits from step 5.

7 - Learn the MIPS processor, and add some news instructions.

8 - Use your modified MIPS to build some microcontroller design, with PIC and others devices.

9 - You can keep walking from here...

PS.: - From step 3 to 5 you can use a software called Logisim to build your logiv circuits . - From step 6 to 9 you can use any VHDL/Verilog IDE. some companies has good ones like Freescale and Altera.

fefb··on Ask HN: What multiple languages and tools for those you use in daily work??
My main code editor for now is Atom.

Nowdays, I doing project with JavaScript. Thus:

React, React Native e Preactive for UI ( I'll change to preact)

NodeJS, Aedes(MQTT broker), websocket, IORedis (for redis)

I am using the RxJS 5.0 for the Observer Pattern in my code. It has all the Pipeline concept with operator that is nice.

fefb··on Ask HN: Is Anyone Living “The 4-Hour Work Week”?
Awesome, thanks for the answer.

It is a great way to make some money for live and launch ideas.

I already read something about courses to sell (video/ebook) in the book called Launch (Jeff Walker).

I am living in a country from Latin America, so I will try something for here. Thanks again. :)

fefb··on Ask HN: Is Anyone Living “The 4-Hour Work Week”?
Cool, was it a video course or some ebook?

How did you do the marketing?
