fdik··on Open letter to German readers: What you were never told about Greece
German translation: http://blog.fdik.org/2015-01/s1422553522
fdik··on Ask HN: How do we find an investor in the EU/UK for something very technical?
In short: forget it. Go to the valley or to China. The situation is ridiculously bad in Europe.
fdik··on How Browsers Store Your Passwords (and Why You Shouldn't Let Them)
The opposite is true: store all your passwords in your web browser. And use random 20 character passwords for each website differently.

But don't forget to encrypt your hard disk, or at least your $HOME or your profile (Windoze).

For your login password, use one like these: https://xkcd.com/936/

fdik··on Ask HN: How can I verify that WhatsApp uses E2E encryption?
You cannot verify that WhatsApp isn't cheating without a source code analysis. And it's even worse, WhatsApp is a doughter company of Facebook, so WhatsApp is falling under Section 215 US Patriot Act.

In short: it's not Facebook's or WhatsApp's fault, but they're forced to cheat if there is the requirement from US officials.

While there may be E2E encryption in WhatsApp, there is no way to get it trustworthy.

fdik··on Qutebrowser – a keyboard-driven, vim-like browser based on PyQt5 and QtWebKit
None I knew of. Flo (“The Compiler”) is just hacking stuff, with help from some others.
fdik··on Qutebrowser – a keyboard-driven, vim-like browser based on PyQt5 and QtWebKit
It's easy on MacOS X if you have i.e. MacPorts:

$ sudo port install python34 py34-jinja2 asciidoc py34-pygments py34-pyqt5

$ git clone https://github.com/The-Compiler/qutebrowser.git

fdik··on Inline PGP signatures considered harmful
There is no way to do PGP/MIME with Microsoft Outlook, because it's not possible to set a MIME type for the message body.

Therefore, on this platform we have no other choice, and while Microsoft doesn't fix that, there will be inline-PGP (and PGP proprietary format for HTML).

fdik··on Ask HN: What (side) projects are you working on?
Interesting – do you know sendfile? http://fex.rus.uni-stuttgart.de/saft/
fdik··on Ask HN: What (side) projects are you working on?
Actually because I'm in kind of sabbatical, my current side project is my main one: pretty Easy privacy, http://pep-project.org – no one pays me for that. The thing I'm hacking now is a preview app for Android based on K-9.

I'm continuing my work of research in language theory, modeling theory and automation of software development, see http://fdik.org/yml and http://fdik.org/pyPEG Today I'm working on Intrinsic, a language with variable syntax while runtime. pyPEG is the prototype of the Parser Framework for that.

fdik··on Q – Run SQL Directly on CSV or TSV Files
On Windoze, ADO lets you use SQL directly on any data source for many years now, including CSV, TSV, Exchange Microsoft, and many more.

Here's a sample how this can be done: http://fdik.org/ado.zip

Such database middleware is missing on many other platforms. Could be an option to think about it.

fdik··on Ask HN: Palantir or Facebook?
Both companies are needing people without that kind of disability we all know as “ethics”. So your choice is obvious: just take the better offer, and if the other one then is renegotiating, cheat and again take the better offer.
fdik··on Ask HN: What language should I learn first?
https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/index.html

It's very easy to learn, at the same time a very good language to be capable of writing code. It's multi paradigm, so you can learn a lot of different things.

fdik··on Reform of SGML (1993)
Didn't know that while designing YML ;-) But it's very similar: http://fdik.org/yml
fdik··on Static site generators focus on the wrong thing
I wrote my own one, and am blogging with it. And no, it's not “focusing on the wrong thing” – it's focusing on the totally right thing, which is doing exactly what I need.

And it's 822 LOC, so it's easy to write, easy to handle. No big issues, no PHP security hole, no Wordpress monsters to administrate. Another 508 LOC give users comments with Markdown using Djangoproject.

And, last but not least: I prefer writing my blog articles partly automated using vim. YMMV.

http://blog.fdik.org

But hey, if you don't like it: just write your own one.
