exebook··on QuickJS JavaScript Engine
fs/net and some other important pieces of Node.js are written as C++ addons for v8, hooking them would be very difficult I guess. Though Microsoft have been working on this for their ChakraCore engine. There was a conflict if I recall correctly, Microsoft suggested to add another abstraction layer to make hooking other JS engines easier but Node.js team refused it. I might not know that situation very well. But I have downloaded ChakraCore based Node.js once and it ran my project without problems, though the performance was about 5% slower.
exebook··on Flow9 programming language is now open source
Not sure about this, all I know is he told me that he left the comment and the comment have never appeared.
exebook··on Flow9 programming language is now open source
I've been told it's GC only in their Telegram channel.

"May cause memory leakege if used unproperly - f.e. not calling unsubscriber functions for so called behaviours. Read the following manual before use :)"

exebook··on Flow9 programming language is now open source
I believe they renamed it to Flow9 at least partly because of the namespace clash with FB's Flow.
exebook··on Flow9 programming language is now open source
My friend who works on Flow9 for something like two years was willing to answer questions, but his message did not get through the moderation in this thread I believe. Basically Flow is a functional language somewhat similar to OCaml (that's my naive understnding). It has multiple backends, and my friend who originally is a math teacher in university and develops theorem provers was hired to work on some of the backends, I think it was the Java backend. He is always so exited talking about Flow, and kept telling me for a about year that they are going to release it as open source and there is a lot of excitement because of that.

I wish they could build a community around this language at least as successful as OCaml's community is.

exebook··on Name It, and They Will Come
I like it that you can change day/night mode in the top right corner of his page. Although this should probably be the part of the browser.
exebook··on Why are glasses so expensive? The eyewear industry prefers to keep that blurry
I have ordered four pairs of -4 glasses from aliexpress ranging from 1 to 7 US dollars, from four various sellers, some have arrived already and are surprisingly good, lenses are great really. Maybe I'm lucky to have standard distance between my eyes, but these super cheap glasses are just as good as those I used to buy in a local clinic for 50-100 USD.
exebook··on The Sharashka Phenomenon (2011)
Once I watched a documentary about US nuclear and space programmes, the way engineers lived and worked there in forties cannot be directly compared to sharashkas but the military and the government still limited the engineers (especially germans and jews) in many ways.
exebook··on Russian Court Bans Telegram App After 18-Minute Hearing
Not intended to assault but those are two rather bold statements, I mean that WhatsApp does not and Telegram does have anti Putin interests, anything substantial and verifiable behind those claims that you can share with us?
exebook··on Go gets preliminary WebAssembly support
Article mentions that the compiled code will also run on Node.js, does it mean it will be possible to use all zillions of NPM modules from Go at some point in time?
exebook··on Airbus and Boeing are exploring the viability of electric planes
Article says that the electric powered planes need shorter runways, why is that?
exebook··on Viua VM: parallel, register-based, bytecode virtual machine
Hi, very interesting stuff!

I am trying to choose a new backend, for the programming language I create, currently I use C, so my interest is rather practical here.

Where Viua stands in terms of performance for both generated code speed and compilation speed? What kind of optimisations it does or will do? What library you use for register allocation? Is JIT in plans?

What are the long term plans/goals?

exebook··on The Art of Assembly Language (1996)
Just read "Register file" on Wikipedia, thank you. Would you kindly share any link that discusses the technique you explained? This is pretty new idea to me.
exebook··on Ask HN: Are there any purely keyword-based search engines with no NLP?
This gives me pages with the word "around" instead
exebook··on Ruby's New JIT
Can it use TinyC? TinyC compile time is about 9 times faster than GCC, so warm up time can possibly be shorter, although the JIT performance gain also be less because TinyC performs only basic optimizations.
exebook··on Elfu – hosti lammen, program like elves do
Elfu is experimental programming language on top of Javascript, that uses dozens of UNICODE symbols and makes code extremely compact.
