Backend/Platform engineer in Minnesota with special interests in Identity/AuthX, Observability, and Messaging. Expertise in C# and F#, competent in Rust (and continually improving), interested in functional programming. M.Sc. and ten years experience in Control Systems Engineering, before transitioning to Software Engineering over a decade ago.

Available for consulting and contracting. Expertise in refactoring/replatforming large or complex legacy systems, migrating from in-house identity/auth systems to SaaS/self-hosted identity platforms, etc. I have extensive experience successfully managing/implementing complex 6-12 month projects on large business-critical production systems transparently without introducing downtime or customer impact.

No love for F# ? The tooling is pretty dang good, all things considered.

thank you!
evntdrvn··on GitHub Actions could be so much better
if you look at the source of the GHA runner, you can see where they regex-replace all references to Azure Pipelines with GitHub Actions lol
evntdrvn··on GitHub Actions could be so much better
the original GHA implementation was shitcanned
evntdrvn··on Ways to capture changes in Postgres
What advantages does this have compared to Debezium?
evntdrvn··on Ways to capture changes in Postgres
yeah, for SQL Server the connection string has an ApplicationName property for this purpose, it's pretty useful :)
evntdrvn··on Data accidentally exposed by Microsoft AI researchers
what I always want to know when people talk about this is "what reputable companies can I actually pay to do a real pentest (without costing hundreds of thousands of dollars)."

they’re experimenting with green threads now though… we’ll see where that ends up :)
evntdrvn··on The combined power of F# and C#
I’ve tried to use “ASP.NET Core with F# underneath” for several projects, thinking it would make for an easier bridge for the rest of the team members who were very comfortable with asp.net already.

And each time, it turned out to be a mistake.

Things went way more smoothly by just using an F#-native web framework like Falco or Suave or Giraffe or …

It’s really hard to have any influence on it unless you’re inside the Google fence. Even for the primary maintainers of those two external parties that you mentioned.

evntdrvn··on Visual Studio’s IntelliSense list can now steer GitHub Copilot code completions
Yeah, it’s a big bummer that VSCode is getting the attention first it seems. For instance there’s nothing for Vs equivalent to the VSCode Copilot Labs plugin, which brings a whole bunch of new useful functionality.

evntdrvn··on Ownership in Swift: Manifesto and meta-proposal (2017)
that's fair, I was thinking of it more as an "easier alternative to Rust" than "is it any harder to learn than Go", which puts things in a very different frame :)
evntdrvn··on Ownership in Swift: Manifesto and meta-proposal (2017)
yeah agreed. It just feels like it’s going to be hard for it to escape people’s hesitation due to the level of Apple influence/control. I wonder why golang didn’t seem to experience the same issue

Thanks for the link, that’s really cool!
evntdrvn··on Unnatural Keys – Nature doesn’t come with identifiers
I really hope that I can find someone on the MS SQL Server team to champion implementing native UUIDV7 support, from what I've heard they are really hesitant to add more data types but a person's gotta try :)
