eurekin··on PyInfra 3.8.0
On my homelab. It really feels like a dream come true for my usecase. No more puppet agents. No more declarative syntax, that you have to work around to do basic imperative ways. Or use a module, that stopped being maintained 3 years ago. Just plop a file here and there through ssh.
eurekin··on Mercedes-Benz commits to bringing back physical buttons
Yes, my goes either-or quite abruptly and, while that's not really annoying, I notice it doing way too often, than I'd like to. It shouldn't be done in a binary fashion as well.

Touchscreens can also leave fingerprints and those will catch light at any angle and reduce effective contrast

Never understood any appeal of a screen inside a car:

1. Reflections make you tilt, just to make some pesky highlights go away. Even if they are angled properly, there's always something (like a sun reflected by a watche's face) what causes nuissance at any angle

2. Car can go from a tunnel to a sunny valley in few seconds. That's 5 to 8 stops of dynamic range difference, that a human eye is easily designed to handle. Auto adjusting screen brigtness is never as bright as necessary in sunny conditions. Even if it were, it would be a significant battery drain and an element, that heats the cars interior already unnecessarily.

3. You don't have pure blacks in many of them, so that annoying halo at the corner of the eye is often present. You can solve it with an OLED, but those are even worse in bright daylight

4. All of the usually mentioned tactile feedback facts - you can reach with your hand to a AC knob, feel it's current set by finding the bulge with a finger and gently turn exactly how you want them. Zero lag, no eye contact necessary at all (keep that on the road!), instant feedback. Nothing that any screen can ever give.

5. Biggest gripe of all - modality. I think that there were some high ranking studies done early in design exactly against this type of input for high risk applications. Modality is the biggest enemy of discoverability and throws extra delays into otherwise instant input.

6. If you use a LCD variant, they interact with sunglasses polarity filter and, at some orientations, can be blocked altogeter. As you often use sunglasses exactly, because you want to see the road the best, it's contrary to the main objective of the control again.

7. Refocusing. If you can use a tactile control, with a good feedback, you're freeing your eyes from the need to adjust it's lens to focus from far to near to far again. Not many people are aware, that this is even happening, and can lead to overestimating your ability to keep engaged attention on the road.

I'd pay extra for a zero screen variant in a jiffy. Had I ever need to use a screen, I would've put my phone in a holder instead.

I'm adding two extra gpus to my local rig. Turns out qwen 3.5 122b is already enough to handle (finish with moderate guidance) non-planning parts of my tasks.
eurekin··on Microsoft suspends dev accounts for high-profile open source projects
That's actually a good case for a LLM going through it and deciding: "nah, overblown" and "Oh, yeah, this one can close the account"
eurekin··on Tinybox – Offline AI device 120B parameters
It's pretty close to what people have been frankenbuilding on r/LocaLLaMa... It's nice to have a prebuild option.

Few years on an OrangePi - zero issues. Few months on an N100 Odroid - no issues.
eurekin··on Microscopes can see video on a laserdisc
It took me like 2 minutes to find the relevant part:

eurekin··on Qwen3.5 122B and 35B models offer Sonnet 4.5 performance on local computers
Very good point. I'm playing with them too and got to the same conclusion.
eurekin··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
Sun emits much stronger IR, near-IR, UV
eurekin··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
Some lidar units simply use the wavelength that the human eye is opaque to.

The grandparent comment is about camera lenses with little to no near infrared cutoff filter. Some older iPhones were like that and that was the original breaking story.

Can't wait until they finally get to real world CAD
eurekin··on 15 years later, Microsoft morged my diagram
It's funny how big of an impact individual developers can have with such seemingly simple publications. At the time of the article with that diagram release, I was changing jobs and I distinctly remember, that the diagram was extensively discussed and compared to company standards, at both the old and the new place.
eurekin··on Neurons outside the brain
The first time I heard of how many neurons the gut has, I went: "well obviously, there's a lot of receptors and muscles to support peristaltic movement; plus probably some start to end connection for proper synchronization and total volume management - it just has to be processed somehow and locally (in the gut, as opposed to the far brain) seems like an obviously good choice". Never tried to verify that with state of the art though
eurekin··on Show HN: I built a tool to un-dumb Claude Code's CLI output (Local Log Viewer)
OpenCode works nicely, I wish it web mode would be developed more. Currently, as it stands, you have to work on the same host in order to pass the full OAuth login flow (it redirects to localhost) for subscription based providers (Claude, ChatGPT). I wish it used some BASE_URL variable I could set, so it would be used instead.
eurekin··on Show HN: I built a tool to un-dumb Claude Code's CLI output (Local Log Viewer)
Oh, wow. I was debugging the same in copilot (the only "work approved" agent) in Intellij, which showed that copilot didn't return commands output at all. I wrote a comment under relevant issue, if you're curious.

I think there are quite a few bugs lingering in those agent-cli's and observability, would help a lot with reporting. Taking yours for a spin this evening, thank you!

eurekin··on Qwen-Image-2.0: Professional infographics, exquisite photorealism
Practically anybody actually creating with this class of models (diffusion based mostly) is using ComfyUI. Community takes care of quantization, repackaging into gguf (most popular) and even speed optimizing (lighting loras, layers skip). It's quite extensive
eurekin··on Director Gore Verbinski: Unreal Engine is the greatest slip backwards for movie
I'm really confused at that take. If you watched the Corridor Channel on YouTube, you can catch a lot of times that Unreal is treated as a draft, or the on-set reference, and gets replaced almost always, before shipping the final. Something doesn't add up here.
eurekin··on GLM-4.7-Flash
I'm trying to run it, but getting odd errors. Has anybody managed to run it locally and can share the command?
eurekin··on Wikipedia: WikiProject AI Cleanup
That's actually putting into words, what I couldn't, but felt similar. Spectacular quote
eurekin··on How scientists are using Claude to accelerate research and discovery
I made a toy order item cost extractor out of my pile of emails. Claude added confidence percentage tracking and it couldn't be more useless.
eurekin··on Apple Creator Studio
I played once with hosting a VSCode server on a raspberry pi for general development and it was actually quite powerful, when used from an iPad. Just not strictly for Swift unfortunately
eurekin··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
Same here. I just didn't want to expend energy racing trigger happy mods. It was so odd, to this day remember vividly how they cleanup their arguments once proven wrong on the closing vote. Literally minutes before it would the close threshold.
eurekin··on Dell's version of the DGX Spark fixes pain points
Oh, this is very interesting. Will have to test it out on coding too. Very good point about testing. Had I only followed benchmarks, I'd miss few gems completely (long context models and 4b vision models that are unbelievably capable for their size). I'd encourage anyone to test the models on actual problems you're working on.
eurekin··on Dell's version of the DGX Spark fixes pain points
GLM 4.7 is new and promising. MinMax 2.1 is good for agents. Of course the qwen3 family, vl versions are spectacular. NVIDIA Nemotron Nano 3 excels at long context and the unsloth variant has been extended to 1m tokens.

I thought the last one was a toy, until I tried with a full 1.2 megabyte repomix project dump. It actually works quite well for general code comprehension across the whole codebase, CI scripts included.

Gpt-oss-120 is good too, altough I'm yet to try it out for coding specifically

eurekin··on Dell's version of the DGX Spark fixes pain points
Correct, most of r/LocalLlama moved onto next gen MoE models mostly. Deepseek introduced few good optimizations that every new model seems to use now too. Llama 4 was generally seen as a fiasco and Meta haven't made a release since
eurekin··on Claude Code creator says Claude wrote all his code for the last month
I just let myself use AI on non-critical software. Personal projects and projects without deadline or high quality standards.

If it uses anything I don't know, some tech I hadn't grasped yet, I do a markdown conversation summary and make sure to include technical solutions overview. I then shove that into note software for later and, at a convenient time, use that in study mode to make sure I understand implications of whatever AI chose. I'm mostly a backend developer and this has been a great html+css primer for me.

eurekin··on Scaling LLMs to Larger Codebases
If you're interested in the large codebase... The best I found so far are extended context models. Using newest Nemotron3 nano, you can put a 1m tokens (about 3 ish megabytes of text) of pure code dump (I use repomix --style markdown) and ask around. That's been one of the biggest wow moments I had with LLMs so far. Much better experience than any RAG I used
