Start hopping on rails, enjoy life and see everything going by for the circus it is

They also had the authority to do so with little to no oversight.
eurasiantiger··on Kramatorsk Radiological Accident
I understand it may seem confusing. These ”energy healing devices” are a very real danger when people unknowingly order them online and their kids take them apart.
eurasiantiger··on Kramatorsk Radiological Accident
All kinds of ”energy healing devices” from underpants with metal capsules sewn in the fabric to ball point pens with loose powder inside.
eurasiantiger··on Kramatorsk Radiological Accident
Considering how common radiation sources are in Chinese gadgets (some even containing radioactive materials in loose powder form), a dosimeter or a geiger counter is mandatory safety equipment when moving house.
eurasiantiger··on Postgres as a graph database
And that’s why graph databases. Practically, you always need to limit the recursion depth anyway (can’t show infinite depth on an UI), so you might be able to make do with postgre.
eurasiantiger··on Postgres as a graph database
Yes. Create a comments table, and have a parent_id column on it.
eurasiantiger··on Postgres as a graph database
The real question is, is a RDB better at being a graph DB than a graph DB is at being a RDB?
eurasiantiger··on Show HN: Use cookies from Chrome (CDP) in cURL without copy pasting
One could argue that cookies need to be more securely stored than passwords, because they can allow an attacker to bypass passwords and all other authentication factors.

Both definitions are correct.

From Wikipedia:

> Neurotoxicity is a form of toxicity in which a biological, chemical, or physical agent produces an adverse effect on the structure or function of the central and/or peripheral nervous system. It occurs when exposure to a substance – specifically, a neurotoxin or neurotoxicant– alters the normal activity of the nervous system in such a way as to cause permanent or reversible damage to nervous tissue.

Brain cells getting killed is a normal process, you could call it pruning. Cells grow back, you know!

eurasiantiger··on Teen-age fentanyl deaths in a Texas county
Both contain practically the entire family of beta-carbolines, which includes several neurotoxic alkaloids.

So if it’s generally accepted that the world is flat, we shouldn’t listen to anyone claiming otherwise?
eurasiantiger··on Postgres as a graph database
Not very realistic example, you need to be requesting some actual fields across nodes and doing some filtering on at least strings and dates, maybe geo areas as well.
eurasiantiger··on Postgres as a graph database
Effectively, moving from RDB to a graph database just shifts relationship resolution from query time to insert/update time. Sometimes this can be an advantage. I’d even wager usually.

Psyops
eurasiantiger··on CSS is hard no matter how good you are at it
Better off repeating classnames (.foo.foo { color: pink; }) than using !important.
eurasiantiger··on CSS is hard no matter how good you are at it
CSS is essentially declarative programming for several different black-box systems.

How selectors are written has exponential performance implications. Using the wrong type of transform might make your page forego hardware acceleration, or use more battery on a mobile device.

At least typical programming languages are targeting a known set of environments and devices with known characteristics.

You definitely need to understand a lot more than the box model and a handful of gotchas.

eurasiantiger··on CSS is hard no matter how good you are at it
> inheritance and composition

Also known as the C in ”Cascading Style Sheets”. Embrace the cascade instead of having every class fully represent a component-piece.

eurasiantiger··on Teen-age fentanyl deaths in a Texas county
You’re being disingenuous. ”There has been little subsequent interest in replicating the studies due to several methodological issues present in the originals”

> Opiates destroy people at the neural level.

So do coffee, tobacco, antidepressants and antipsychotics.

eurasiantiger··on Teen-age fentanyl deaths in a Texas county
That is a corruption issue and cannot be solved by drug laws.
eurasiantiger··on Teen-age fentanyl deaths in a Texas county
You still fantasize about a world where everything and everyone is ”clean”.

That will never exist but you will destroy the humanity of yourself and others in an attempt to delude yourself.

eurasiantiger··on Teen-age fentanyl deaths in a Texas county
Or take your head our of your ass, stop enacting half-hearted measures like decriminalization and completely legalize the supply.

Your prime issue is corruption, not drug use

eurasiantiger··on Tailwind CSS v3.3
SCSS wins for maintainability.

You could import your favourite design framework (say, bootstrap) as SCSS, change its variables to suit your design, and create any custom components using @extend:

    .custom-component {
      @extend .some-bootstrap-class
    }
Also nothing prevents you from creating mixins, functions, etc.

Just keep it first-order, as SCSS functions cannot return new functions.

eurasiantiger··on Taking Magnesium tablet everyday changes my life
That certainly is more of a factor than magnesium.
eurasiantiger··on Taking Magnesium tablet everyday changes my life
B vitamins are more important here, as they are required as cofactors for pretty much every metabolic step in and around the citric acid cycle (aka Krebs cycle, responsible for cell respiration and energy generation), as well as a similar cofactor for steps in the human serotonin synthesis pathway.

So now it’s possible to do raytracing in CSS. What a world we live in!
eurasiantiger··on PayPal has restricted our account after we invoiced a key containing “ALEP”
This particular one: because it would 100% get used for money laundering, which would get the platform cut off from traditional banking and could make it extremely difficult to get a paycheck.
