euos··on A Russian Missile Crew Was Geolocated from Just This Photo
Are you Russian yourself? "Especially much" seems like literal translation from Russian ("особо много"). This would explain intentional stupidity.

Developers of the weapons may say they do not want to hit civilian targets. These people know full well what they are doing. They are pure inexcusable evil.

euos··on A Russian Missile Crew Was Geolocated from Just This Photo
It’s the people who program the missiles. People who knowingly attack power infrastructure in a cold country (my parents spent 12 hours without the power today). People who make mistakes that make missiles struck residential buildings. Investigators said he contacted them and they were completely nonchalant about the result of their work. He used the term “banality of evil”.

Atwood law ran its course. Now we need a same law, except for Rust.
euos··on Deno vs. Bun performance is rigged
You may be able to slash SSR from 200ms to 195ms by using a different JS runtime. Or you may slash it to 100ms by rewriting and optimizing code (caching and such). Resources are limited. You either do one or the other.
euos··on Apple removed all VK and Mail.ru applications from the App Store
No. Initial goal was to occupy eastern Ukraine. There was no government in Kharkiv, Ukrainian south and such.

Stop repeating Russian propaganda.

euos··on Apple removed all VK and Mail.ru applications from the App Store
I am Ukrainian so I will explain.

Russians do not consider us a separate nation and consider our language a "broken Russian". They are in fact trying to erase our language and our culture. They call anyone who considers themselves Ukrainian and not Russian a "nazi" that should be killed. This is a genocide.

euos··on Apple removed all VK and Mail.ru applications from the App Store
VK and such are state-own basically. This guy was appointed because of his father. It is not like he built the company. Pavel Durov, the founder, was basically exiled from Russia years ago.

I will not resume this discussion here. You will probably see me on your LinkedIn. Feel free to reach out if you wonder where me, my family and my friends would like you to put your money.
euos··on JetBrains Research
Right. The fabled "good Russians". That do not support the "Putin war". They probably even put "support Ukraine in any means possible" on their LinkedIn profiles.
euos··on JetBrains Research
You'll be surprised how understanding Russian security services are to business climate. Russians are survivalists.

Pretty sure GRU officer was typing that blog entry with one hand, keeping fingers on other hand crossed behind his back.

And my sources show otherwise... Offices are closed, I give you that.

Yandex "parent company" is in Netherlands. Kasperky Lab "is operated" by a UK holding company.

They are one of the "sneaky" Russian companies who make money on the West but fully support Russian government. Czech office and such is to keep appearances.

1. Business/sales in Czech, eng in Saint-Petersburg. At least, used to.

2. They did not react on Ukrainians discussing their employee pro-war stance. They made sure to clean up all discussions on their forums and elsewhere.

3. They formally closed the offices. Employee are working remotely from Russia.

There already was a SolarWinds breach. There will be more.

Looks so cool and clean. Stealing the design for my project

They are a Russian company with most engineers in Russia. There had been a strong records in Russian social networks of their engineers supporting Russian attacks on other countries (e.g. there was one engineer back in 2014 who moderated another forum and was banning Ukrainians and expressing glee at annexation of Crimea).

They had been working hard to distance themselves from Russia. You may also notice similar spike in activity from Yandex, who had been publishing open-source project at elevated rate last half a year.

euos··on Ask HN: How to teach myself not to overcomplicate?
Oh, my resources are limited. Full-time job, 2 kids and such... That's what makes progress slower and that overhead so painful.
euos··on Ask HN: How to teach myself not to overcomplicate?
I don't reach a stage where something is running. E.g. I have half-broken login page (with backend services) instead of actual image hosting.
euos··on Ask HN: How to teach myself not to overcomplicate?
I can't get to the stage where I have users

Factorio.

I play it with my kids (10 and 16) and my father (70) and brother. Everybody finds something to do and everybody has a lot of fun.

euos··on A billion-dollar industry helping students at Australian universities cheat
1. I was in the same college so I had a “test book” cover with my photo. For some reasons n they put the photo on the cover and the name and the rest on the book pages

2. No one remembers students’ handwriting.

3. In our system professors only read lectures before large groups of students. They have “docents” (not sure what’s English word for that) who do smaller practical classes professors were taking the exams. Also, some of them passingly saw my face in the hall. Once or twice I got by mistake to my former professors - the company had to fix the issue (with money)

euos··on Riding transit takes almost twice as long as driving (2017)
Transit can not be successful in low-density residential build. American life style is lifestyle of rich people - single family houses and cars.
euos··on A billion-dollar industry helping students at Australian universities cheat
I worked for a company when I was in college (Ukraine) that would send me to pass in-person exams instead of other students. Money was good and I needed them. There was also a risk of being caught (though I did not really risk anything, just my employer would have to bribe the professor or someone higher up)

Since then I strongly believe tests in the college are pointless. Doctors and such should have a strict licensing exam outside.

euos··on Ask HN: Best iPad Pro Alternative for VSCode?
Yeah, that's what I may end up with. Was wondering if there's a comparable Chromebook.

I am most worried about the screen quality.

euos··on Ask HN: Best iPad Pro Alternative for VSCode?
"Reasonable" amount. iPad Pro is reasonable.

I think $2k would be reasonable if it is a real laptop.

euos··on GitHub Copilot is generally available
I’ve been using it as well. As annoying as it is, I am sure I would miss it enough to pay $100/year. Luckily, I somehow qualified for free access…

Location. Bike store paid for ads in the city (or county)
euos··on I visited a friend who is watching Breaking Bad. Now clips appear on my YouTube?
Because it is harmless. The worst that can happen is a bad recommendation.
euos··on I visited a friend who is watching Breaking Bad. Now clips appear on my YouTube?
You can try fingerprinting, etc. Ridiculous amount of effort to implement it. For little benefit.

Imagine the computational resources needed to track microphone for all Android users.
