I wouldn’t do that today, you won’t get past security at most places. It does happen, though.

Worked at Intel for > 10 years; currently doing embedded Linux for avionics and working toward a pilot's license.
I really love Linux.
I wouldn’t do that today, you won’t get past security at most places. It does happen, though.
I mean there are folks with histories which would make you greeen with envy, but you can have the same history with ~0 effort, making it immaterial.
Even if they are serious, and you ask questions after the take-home then find out they don’t believe in version control and testing, you still wasted your time!
Frankly, I’m glad we don’t have a bunch of llamas in different skins being hawked like the current crop of “AI” startups that are just thin layers over OpenAI’s API.
When I joined a kernel gfx driver team, the expected ramp time was ~6 months. My friend working on Mesa had a >1 year ramp time!
If I open the source for a Django or React app, I can get to fixing bugs in a few days or less. It just depends.
I see two data points they could have: time when the template was downloaded (assuming it’s a unique link only you can access, and you didn’t download it > once/all downloads are logged) or emailed, and the time it was submitted.
All other time stamps can be spoofed.
I’m not sure I know another example, so maybe it’s very rare.
I eventually used Ventoy, it works on Linux and solved my problems immediately. It also forces the win installer to think it’s offline to avoid the dark pattern of online-“only” accounts.
Then it was loaded with adverts and other horseshit. Seriously degraded experience.
All of this because when I was trying to play a game pass game the play button just did nothing. No logs, no info, nothing. The online help was pretty good, but removing/resetting/reinstalling all game related software did nothing. Real pain when there’s no feedback.
Thus, I record all my interviews so I can review them later... and use them if I find a need to.
Remember: always assume you're being recorded.
Even if it's illegal the court of public option makes it's own rulings, and even if you 'win' legally you could still be ruined.
The market is very tough right now, and even well qualified seniors can’t find work. The general consensus is if you don’t have a degree you shouldn’t even bother (unless you have many YoE, then only maybe) and should go to college or leave the industry. Is that true in your experience?
You’re less likely to be “found out”, especially with there being LOTS of fine-tunes and even a couple fundamental models.
Though I don’t think this study is accurate, people are trying and they’re only targeting “Open”Ai’s products.
They turn off over ~18MPH, though. After that, tire noise is much louder. As loud as an ICE car.
So, realistically, you’d hear a Prius if it’s going normal road speeds.
Side note: I wish the sound was more pleasant. When multiple cars are moving in a lot I call it the “choir of the damned”. They’re also louder than ICE cars and that’s kinda lame, we moved backwards WRT noise.
They'll just turn down the meeting request, tell your supervisor what you've done and you'll suffer either real punishment or be unofficially 'punished'. You may even be fired because of "at-will" employment: Anyone can be fired for (almost) any reason at any time.
Generally you just don't get time off, or maybe you can take the time off without pay (if they're extra generous). Such is life in the USA, there is no response: You will do what the owners of capital say, or you will go hungry.
That's all there is to it.
Sending mail works with that same app password and smpt.gmail.com, I use that to send email from systemd using msmtp as well.
It’s pretty reliable, but if you change your gmail password it revokes your app passwords. Only downtime I had was I simply didn’t know that, easy fix.
The problem is that if you lose your job this plan will crumble on first contact with the enemy. I'm job hunting right now, and between 'ghost jobs', bad recruiters, low ballers, take-homes with unstated requirements, leetcode grinding, system design studying, optimization for "best talent, lowest salary", and the fact that workers have absolutely no power means you don't have a choice how you work at some point.
Once savings start to dry up, you'll work in person. You'll move if they ask, you'll take a lower salary and a worse position... after all, do you want to eat?
Not likely to happen, so I'll probably drive hybrid cars for the rest of my life. That's OK with me, though.
If you pull the DCM fuse, you'll loose the microphone and potentially one of the right-hand speakers - these can be fixed by jumping the wires in/out of the DCM.
What's concerning to me are reports of the car still uploading all the collected data if you attach a cell phone to the radio's bluetooth. Apparently the car just relays all the info.
I kinda want to snoop that data and see what it is, at least collect the encrypted packets... but my car is from 2007 and has no connected features, so...
We shouldn’t be forced to spend money at any company. Where are the Free (beer and Libre) methods??
It does seem to work using alpca-lora directly, though.
So far I've trained 3: 2 on the entire text of ASOIAF (converted from e-books) and 1 on the Harry Potter series. I can ask questions like "tell me a story about a long winter in Westeros" and get something in the "voice" of GRRM and with real references to the text. It can write HP fanfics all day long. My favorite so far was the assistant self-inserting into a story with Jon Snow, complete with "The Assistant has much data for you. Please wait while it fetches it." and actually having a conversation with Jon.
Asking specific questions is way more of a miss (e.x. "Who are Jon Snow's real parents?" returns total BS), but that may be because my 3080 is too weak to train anything other than 7B models in 4bit (which is only supported with hacked patches). I used Koala as my base model.
I'm getting close to dropping $1600 on a 4090, but I should find employment first... but then I'll have less time to mess with it.
Is there a solution? Is this being used to push Linux users off the internet? Can I just fire up emulated Android and be ok?
Am I screwed? Googling indicates I am, indeed, screwed. Pretty concerned about this future.
I really loved chasing whatever I fancied, and just living life. I’ve leaned so much, read so much, matured mentally, repaired relationships and friendships.
I feel ready to go back, but I will miss it. It’s nice to have the days stretch endlessly before and behind you, to mark the passage of time mainly by seasons, and to really feel like a human instead of a mule.
My previous job was horrible though, I may even have light PTSD! The only reason I don’t go work for USPS or drive a bus is because I think other companies are much better.
Job hunt is gonna be brutal and dehumanizing, though. I may just wait more, and I won’t be shy about withdrawing my candidacy in the face of red flags!!
I haven't been in a programming 'flow state' for many years, maybe last in college. It just doesn't happen to me anymore. Programming for me has changed a lot in that time. Most of the typing work is done by an LLM or a contractor/jr. I suppose the opportunity for 'flow' is gone or much less. Additionally, well designed code is easier to reason about and requires less context in most cases.
I think many people are too rigid in their meta-thinking. No, not all programmers fall into flow, not all programmers hate distraction, not all programmers have the "standard" deep/shallow thinking dichotomy. Each of these is probably a spectrum, and are effected by changes based on too many factors to enumerate.
Do what works for you, and read these kind of articles with a skeptical eye. Especially since this article is from "contextkeeper.io" and "Rebuilding the Context" heading is just an ad lmao
