ericls··on Using a disk-based Redis clone to reduce AWS S3 bill
If you are caching files to something that is saved to a disk based file system, why not just use the filesystem?
ericls··on Show HN: My personal website is a shell
Many keyboard shortcuts I rely on in a shell is hijacked by browser. So sad

Wrap them inside Electron, now they are not web anymore, would you have the same complaints?
ericls··on Ask HN: Cheapest/easiest way to host a static site?
Firebase Hosting is actually very very easy to use and very "tranditional".

Fewer guns on whom? Less crime by whom?

ericls··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
That’s also possible. But at that point I won’t define the new chip as successful.
ericls··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Not throwing things away. X86 will continue to exist for sure. It’s just if ARM is popular to developers, the barrier that sometimes your code don’t run on ARM will eventually be removed. After the barrier is removed, some advantages of ARM will shine, such as more energy efficient, more cores(so when you buy a cloud server you are more likely to have dedicated cores, instead of vcores).
ericls··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Not if servers are also runing ARM
ericls··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
If my dev environment and build pipline is all ARM, I might as well get a ARM based server in production if they are available at a reasonable price.
ericls··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
I don't know if this will be a big success, but if it is, I think ARM will take over a large amount of server/cloud market.
ericls··on AWS forked my project and launched it as its own service
Is it possible to have a license that have different requirements for human beings and non-human beings(organizations, corporations, bots, etc). It feel like the author is upset because AWS is not a human being.
ericls··on Traffic Prediction with Advanced Graph Neural Networks
I think in addition to predict traffic jam for individuals, this can be used to adaptively control traffic lights and open/close lanes to reduce traffic jam for the whole system.
ericls··on MGA Entertainment: A privately-owned toy company doing billions in revenue
It feel it might not be fair for other participants in gambling industry that are more strictly regulated.

It's like selling drugs that are not yet categorized as drugs.

ericls··on MGA Entertainment: A privately-owned toy company doing billions in revenue
Isn't this gambling?
ericls··on Show HN: A tool for editing, optimizing and converting SVG files to JSX or PNG
I don't know if this is bug or feature:

You can use hex and binary numbers on the left, which leads to invalid svg but the preview still works.

ericls··on The TikTok War
I believe people who switched from weed to meth share a similar experience.
ericls··on Don't close your MacBook with a cover over the camera
To know or to trust? I would always choose to know if I can afford.
ericls··on A REST View of GraphQL
I think REST works if you need to fetch data but when you want to query data, I prefer a well defined language instead of hacking my http headers into a query language that I need to define, implement and maintain.
ericls··on SymPy - a Python library for symbolic mathematics
Used it a lot in school. Saved me lots of time.
ericls··on India bans TikTok, WeChat, and dozens of other Chinese apps
US should’ve done this months ago.
ericls··on ASGI from scratch – Let's build an ASGI web framework
All of the high performing results are running with servers written in C/C++ tho.

I think if we have a more performant ASGI server / event loop, the results might be different.

ericls··on ASGI from scratch – Let's build an ASGI web framework
Hi Peter!
ericls··on ASGI from scratch – Let's build an ASGI web framework
Hi, YarickR2. I think if the whole application does not require interacting with other asyncio stuff then it's fine to stick to WSGI.

I like ASGI because it allows us to do some things (including websocket, asynchronous io, etc) much easier. And even it is not compatible with WSGI, it's not hard to wrap around a WSGI application.

The framework built in the post is far from finished or practical, please take a look at Starlette, FastAPI or even Django, etc to know more about the use cases of ASGI.

ericls··on The Harm of Studying Abroad
This article is basically someone failed at achieving something and then blame it all to an easy target. America happens to be the easy target of his choice this time.
