enneff··on Disrupting the largest residential proxy network
By “your traffic” you mean device location reports? Or something else?
enneff··on Disrupting the largest residential proxy network
How is Find My a proxy network?
enneff··on Gaussian Splatting – A$AP Rocky "Helicopter" music video
You might consider why this article which has nothing to do with AI as you know it (except for the machine learning aspects of Gaussian splatting), and was produced by a huge team of vfx professionals, has made you think about AI democratising culture (despite the fact that music videos and films have been cheap to make for decades). Don’t just look for opportunities to discuss your favourite talking points.
enneff··on The Gentle Seduction (1989)
Why? Life for an individual is long enough IMO. Death means renewal. Our children are better than us.
enneff··on Exe.dev
There is also the threat of the server sending a data sequence that exploits a vulnerability in your terminal. It has happened before, but it’s rare.
enneff··on Exe.dev
Likely? Definitely.
enneff··on Children with cancer scammed out of millions fundraised for their treatment
I think the existing penalties would be deterrent enough. The problem is the criminals know they’ll probably get away with it.
enneff··on Valve reveals it’s the architect behind a push to bring Windows games to Arm
The marketing works because online games get destroyed by cheats. Losing in online games can be full of “feel bad” moments, even without cheaters (network issues, cheesy tactics, balance issues). To think that your opponent won because they outright cheated just makes you wanna quit.

I’ve seen so many players saying “look you can own my entire pc just please eliminate the cheating.”

It would be great to see more of a web of trust thing instead of invasive anti cheat. That would make it harder for people to get into the games in the first place though so I don’t know if developers would really want to go that way.

enneff··on VIM Master
Yet they ship macOS with vim installed and zsh as the default shell.
enneff··on ADHD drug treatment and risk of negative events and outcomes
The science doesn’t support your hypothesis btw.
enneff··on FFmpeg 8.0 adds Whisper support
I don’t mean to speak for OP, but it strikes me as rude to make light of someone’s disability in this way. I’d guess it has caused them a lot of frustration.
enneff··on Peep Show is the most realistic portrayal of evil I have seen (2020)
That’s not how British tv works
enneff··on ChatGPT agent: bridging research and action
In my experience the value of junior contributors is that they will one day become senior contributors. Their work as juniors tends to require so much oversight and coaching from seniors that they are a net negative on forward progress in the short term, but the payoff is huge in the long term.

Zheanna Erose’s channel is a goldmine of microtonal music and discussion thereof.

enneff··on Canyon.mid
CANYON.MID was shipped with Windows 3.1 IIRC.
enneff··on I do not remember my life and it's fine
That is a hot take but it doesn’t really line up with research nor my anecdotal experience discussing the topic with close friends that have aphantasia.
enneff··on Changing Directions
I don’t think EMT burnout has much to do with the situations you mention, but rather whether the workers are adequately supported by their employers: given the resources to do their job, healthy shift length and scheduling, mental health care, etc. My friends who work in emergency medicine seem mostly burned out by being overworked because the hospitals are perpetually understaffed.
enneff··on OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive
I don’t think there’s any evidence that Ive has the expertise you claim. He was lead designer for Apple when they did the iPhone, but it is Apple who has the extensive deep expertise in hardware design and engineering.
enneff··on What do wealthy people buy, that ordinary people know nothing about? (2015)
It’s something Europeans buy. :)
enneff··on What do wealthy people buy, that ordinary people know nothing about? (2015)
It’s your home. Nobody knows how it should be better than you.

I’ve had to repair my Miele dishwasher several times. (Faulty heater relay, common problem with the model.) also coincidentally the spring in the door broke yesterday. Otherwise it does clean the dishes very well and it’s quiet and attractive looking.

I bought it because they have a good rep. But I’ve owned this dishwasher for 15 years and it’s still going.

My Fisher and Paykel fridge I’ve had for 20+ years and it’s never needed any maintenance whatsoever. To me that’s pretty amazing.

enneff··on The Barbican
It’s hard to explain just how nice Leica lenses can be in the right hands. There is a reason they have a cult like following.
enneff··on Cuttlefish 'talk' with their arms, study reveals
This is so cool to see. When I used to do a lot of SCUBA diving I would sometimes have long staring competitions with cuttlefish. Of course it’s impossible to know for sure, but I always got the sense there was a lot going on behind those eyes.
enneff··on Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview
There’s a lot wrong with your analogy. I’m inclined to argue, but really it’s better to just disagree about the facts than try to invent hypothetical scenarios that we can disagree about.
enneff··on Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview
That is so only if by “upcoming years” they mean “any point in the future”. I think they meant “soon”, though.
enneff··on Google Gemini has the worst LLM API
Maybe you should just read the docs and use the examples there. I have used all kinds of GCP services for many years and auth is not remotely complicated imo.
enneff··on Eurorack Knob Idea
There’s definitely a thing in music, as in computing, or golfing, or whatever, where some people are more into the gear than the actual practice of doing the thing. Modular synths are a great outlet for those kinds of people.

I have a modest Eurorack setup and a few other synths and I find them a nice way to get into music making without looking at a computer. It’s nice to have a limited set of options, rather than a near infinite set of software plugins and presets. My gear can only make a certain number of sounds at once, and that’s it. The liberty of constraints.

When I get serious about a music project I inevitably end up working in a computer DAW but I often don’t find that an inspiring place to start.

enneff··on Eurorack Knob Idea
This is why I really like Intellijel’s designs. They generally have attenuators on the inputs for which it makes sense, and those attenuators are the small stick knobs. While they use larger knobs for more central module functions.

enneff··on A new form of verification on Bluesky
It’s not that you need to trust the New York Times as a whole, it’s that you can trust that account is linked to that organisation. A verification tick does not imply endorsement, just that they are who they say they are.
enneff··on Build an 8-bit computer from scratch (2016)
His series on building a video adaptor is a particular favourite of mine.
