eminkel··on Thinking of Selling on eBay using Paypal? Think Again
It would be interesting to contrast the same policies for other similar services (ex. Amazon Marketplace).

Sorry you're out that much money because of scam.

Saw this link on Twitter earlier, didn't click through though. Flash ran fine in Chrome, pretty fun game, love the sound effects. I'm only 23% apprentice... if anyone made it to the end.
eminkel··on Nexus 7, Made for Google Play
* Most Nexus devices do.

Google no longer supports old hardware to a certain extent. I had to upgrade phones from a Nexus One because they wouldn't be pushing ICS to it. I'm guessing that this will be the case eventually with tablets.

I particularly only purchase Nexus branded devices because of the support for the most current OS from Google.

(Just noticed you said 'for at least a couple of years')

This looks very promising. Like others have noted, even on the Play Store they are getting battered with negative reviews because of Facebook only authentication.

+1 for another authentication type.

eminkel··on Ask HN: Shall I buy an 'ultrabook' or a MB Air?
I checked this out in store, very cheap feeling.
eminkel··on Ask HN: Shall I buy an 'ultrabook' or a MB Air?
I purchased a Zenbook UX31E on Saturday. I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 alongside Windows 7 for development needs. It's meant to be my mobile development laptop and so far it runs great. Obviously it has some quirks pointed out in reviews but I haven't had any issues I couldn't get past with updated drivers or configuration.

Ubuntu 11.10 is a battery hog, I think I can get about 4 hours out of the battery.

Windows 7 seems to estimate 5-6 hours.

I'd have to do further testing for actual hours on battery for both environments. So far, so good.

eminkel··on How I Learned Enough Ruby On Rails In 12 Weeks To Launch Freelancify
I have done the exact same thing as you, saltcod. I have been reading on Ruby on Rails for the past 4 months prior to December. After the new year hit, I told myself that this is the year I fully understand and learn Ruby on Rails to the point of putting out a product. I had started the Rails Tutorial by Michael then stopped, probably from confusion or disinterest. I watched/read many other tutorials that are around.

I have also signed up as of Jan. 11th with a monthly Lynda subscription just to watch the Kevin Skoglund tutorials on there, I have probably 4 hours of tutorials left. I skipped much of the environment setup since I have that down. This tutorial so far has helped me to understand a lot of concepts. I hope to revisit Michael Hartl's Rails Tutorial and fully complete it with TDD and all.

If you ever need a kick in the ass shoot me an email.

I will probably do a write up on my experience learning RoR after I get something built. Like the OP, coming from HTML & CSS & Some database background.

eminkel··on Wikipedia to Shut Down on Wednesday to Protest SOPA
I also stated I would donate money as well, looks like I must now. :)
eminkel··on Ask HN: With GoDaddy even more horrible, what budget hosting/domain company?
'SOPASucks' gets you $6.99/transfer
eminkel··on Ask HN: GoDaddy replacement?
I use gandi.net, more of a higher-priced registrar and just transferred 10 domains to namecheap.com, which seemed really easy to do. Use their "SOPASucks" transfer coupon for the best discount. ($6.99/yr per transfer plus free private registration for a year.)
eminkel··on Ask HN: Website resume?
Speed of the site wasn't even an issue. On a super fast connection ;)
eminkel··on Ask HN: Website resume?
You have a few errors on your A_Ramblin_Wreck page...

The Georgia Institute of Technology is a world renowned school, and has an electrical engineering program that is commonly ranked in the top 5 in the United States.

and a few here:

I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a telecommunication trackmaybe use the word emphasis instead of 'track'. My interests of specialization are security and wireless networking...

Though you did say work in progress :)

eminkel··on Ask HN: What is the best (price, speed) web hosting?
If you know how to setup a PHP/SQL development environment you may be able to setup a server. It's not that difficult.
eminkel··on How My Lifestyle Business Became a Startup
Inspiring post. Thank you for the enlightenment. It's always great to hear from single founder companies. I look forward to your future posts.
eminkel··on Show HN: RideZap
Having recently graduated from University, I see this being huge for that specific market, first. If you can find a way to get this more exposure I see it being a useful tool for students with no car and needing a ride; either back home for the holidays or extended weekends, etc.

I like the implementation, needs more users in different cities.

Would be interested in the drill down of how payment is fulfilled?

eminkel··on Ask HN: What does this website do?
I prefer this layout: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6068/6091344748_8571cf15b4_b....

Over your current one. I'm curious why you changed it? It's message is much more clear.

eminkel··on Ask HN: What does this website do?
It wasn't clear from the beginning (20 seconds) that this was a site to create a "corkboard" of travel from. I had to enter Rome, Italy and then "Create One[create one what? a duffel?]" to understand what the site did. Once in the implementation of the Webapp itself is quite nice.

If you could create an engaging sample 'duffel' it might show users its proper use.

eminkel··on Show HN: Songspin - StumbleUpon meets Hype Machine
I think your target audience may be electronic music fans which might limit you in your service growing. I have seen a similar implementation of a StumbleHype however, it redirected to each blog. I like your implementation of loading the songs into a music player located on your site. You may already have this on your list of things to do, but, a categorization of music types might help, as well as it being more clear on how to pause the song that's currently playing. (Scratch part of that, your main page allow you to chose. You just linked to 'hot' tracks from HN.)

Hope this helps. I'm definitely a fan though.

eminkel··on Show HN: DailyScreenshot - track the visual evolution of any website
I think the idea is great, would it benefit you to allow a general query of screenshots over X days on say Google to see how the product works, rather than having to force a sign up?
