embro··on The NSA: An Inside View
> "They’re looking for intelligence about foreign entities of interest"

And the NSA can decide who is of interest, of course, so for me "entities of interest" and "Everyone" is the same.

I could just say that I don't care since I have nothing to hide, but I am concerned.

Your article did not convince me of the need to monitor the whole Earth communications for intelligence just because the law allows it.

embro··on Ask HN: 70% of Salary all the time, 30% if a company meets its projections...
If the 30% isn't considered bonus (which is quite a big bonus) then it doesn't make sense to me.

If I wanted to jeopardize 30% of my salary and take risks, I would start my own company.

Running a company involve taking risks that are generally only shared among the investors.

For this reason, I'm sure we're either missing details or the 70% is equal to around 90% of the industry salary which would be more acceptable, 10% off the base salary in exchange of 30% bonus, which would get you to 120%.

Put yourself into a mindset that the best thing that happened in 2013 was you getting fired.

Good luck!

embro··on Would Paul Walker survive had he been riding a Tesla?
It is right that they can control the fire by discharging the battery cells before fire reach it. Insulation can also be placed between cells.

One thing is sure, battery overall safety can be improved while gas, you are being limited to what you can do.

embro··on Would Paul Walker survive had he been riding a Tesla?
I don't think it would have changed the outcome. From the pictures I saw, the speed must have been very high.

Now to answer your question, in a car accident, yes fire does play a big role since it doesn't take much to light up gas. On top of that gas gets everywhere inside the car. For this reason, I would prefer to crash in an electric car if I had to.

As for the Tesla S, it is one amazing car, maybe the best car ever built like some said. The price makes it a niche product that most of us cannot afford.

I'm not worried about the "fire cases" since they were all caused by collisions. My dad used to work for a tow company and car fires happens all the time and we rarely hear about it. Media focused on the Tesla fires just because it is electric and maybe because it is Tesla.

embro··on Top-Selling Car in Norway Now Electric Car Two Months in a Row
I'm glad you bring that up, yes if we triple price, we can expect food and most things to skyrocket as well. Apart from giving them a rebate or some sort of big tax credit, I don't have a solution to bo honest.

I do not live in Toronto or even nearby, population of my city is 130,000. The public transportation is ok only if you don't have kids.

My point is, a majority of people don't even consider public transportation or electric cars, hybrids are a joke, except for the Chevy Volt.

The government incentives have been increasing but they don't seem to convince a lot of people.

To be honest, that would make my day, I wish gas was triple the actual price.

embro··on Ask HN: How do you store production credentials?
My solution is Keepass on a shared drive with very a strong password.

For production stuff, I would suggest you use a key file on top of a password.

Key file tips :

1- Key file on Truecrypt encrypted USB key.

2- Use plugin OtpKeyProv in in conjunction with RSA SecurID or other Random key generator.

Also, automate backup of the password database everyday.
