ellis0n··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
I think any OS can be divided into a "backend" that deals with the hardware and a "frontend" user-level applications with a UI. The backend is mostly similar everywhere, while the frontend is what the general public typically perceives as the "OS". It's hard to see anything truly new in the "invisible" backend, but the frontend changes with every update (Windows, Mac, Linux etc). ACPU OS is a good example of this, where the backend can be a different OS, an emulator or actual hardware, while the frontend remains the same across all execution environments. https://www.acpul.org/blog/so-fast

ellis0n··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
I've been developing a solo ACPU OS for many years now, one that's fast and simple enough to be better than any known OS. That's why I believe all OS development problems come from overengineering and overcapitalization. https://www.acpul.org/blog/so-fast

ellis0n··on Ukraine can move beyond its Soviet architectural legacy
When the war started, I advised various public and business figures about houses for relocation and someone even replied that work was being done on it, but I don’t see any progress. I had many friends who lived in panel buildings and everyone complained, it was a real curse. In addition to poor sound insulation between walls, over time the panels start to delaminate, you constantly have to seal cracks to stop cockroaches from migrating. The lifespan is 20 years shorter than that of brick buildings, though it depends on the specific batch and some are of decent quality.

Another issue is centralized heating. Problems begin when they start repairing the pipes, going six months without hot water is normal. Insulation is a must, usually done on credit at your own expense.

These buildings are completely lacking in bomb resistance. Of course, there are many types and configurations, for example, I lived in Odessa in some fairly decent panel buildings that were apparently built for a few from the USSR Politburo, so probably elite.

Living underground is hell. It’s better to solve the problem politically with reliable air defense systems. On top of that, terrible high-tech bombs keep getting more advanced and basements could end up costing more than the houses built above them.

The outskirts of Kharkiv are a tragedy, condolences.

Résumé/CV: https://www.acpul.org/cv (Message me on LinkedIn and I will send you a resume tailored to the specific role)

Email: web3future ? protonmail ?? com !

I’m among the Top 1% of talent. For those who are too lazy to read and understand my resume, I created a project called “Resume Bubbles” using the ACPUL language which I developed myself along with the Animation CPU programming platform and OS, which I built from scratch. I can develop projects of any complexity for example, Cursor AI and I have hands-on experience with A100 and H100, Web3 AI L0, L1, L2 and EVM and Rust SOL, game development and metaverse, as well as GPU and electronics work. I was developing databases and query languages like SQL before AWS even existed. I’ve led teams, built systems from the ground up and I bring real experience. Right now, I’m looking for hourly paid work. No fluff, no brainwashing, just professionals

ellis0n··on Why is the world losing color?
80% of developers on StackOverflow are unhappy and burned out and I don’t think they are thinking about colors and the brightness of life. Bored Ape has become a symbol of an era where many people's dreams have shattered and they have turned into a grey mass. The diversity of colors is a symbol of joy and freedom. The wars have swept across the world and now entire countries like Ukraine have lost all color because the colors of war are gray and black, and there are people who impose shades of gray because they are only interested in money and don’t care about colors.

Amazing! Finally, the design of Rust is being used not only for interviews but also for bureaucratic reports, which is what it was designed for. Now, the bureaucracy within the team has improved and the bosses will be very pleased. A very useful tool.

I had an experience where a team of Rust juniors did whatever they wanted in a separate chat and the CTO, PM and I (Lead) had no idea what was going on. This tool would have helped. Now, I’ll focus on the code review to see how Rust's safety helped solve this issue. I think this will be a topic for a great new article about the power of Rust.

Unfortunately, politics is everywhere where there is more than one person and something to divide, and America is the most politicized country in the world where everything is highly regulated by laws, because the laws are strictly enforced. Politicians fight for power = control over people's lives and that’s how money and the economy are created, so everything becomes secondary to politics. If the world’s politicians would unite and stop wars and do everything for the humanity, we would have hundreds and thousands of better YCs across the planet. But until that happens, it’s better to sell a startup to politicians for big money. For now, we have the only wonder of the world, YC in the USA which is the best, as long as this forum hasn’t closed, IMHO.
ellis0n··on Happy 20th Birthday, Y Combinator
The business is built on the fact that young founders have an extra 10-15 years to learn everything compared to older ones. I think this will soon change when older people start rejuvenating and extending their lives. Also, it's just a trend like TikTok and startups founded by 25-year-olds sell better. Given the startup maturation cycle of 7-10 years, the founder will be 32-35 yo and they'll need another 10 years to present a success story for the system to work
ellis0n··on Happy 20th birthday, Y Combinator
Happy Birthday, YC! I've been a regular participant in the HN community since 2012. All these years HN has inspired me and during this time I've learned a lot. I started back in the days of building FIDO, when the first point networks appeared. Of course, I’d love to see more communities and fewer bots, but progress is unstoppable. I wish the HN community to thrive and remain strong for many years to come.

I'm creating a mobile reader (iOS app) specifically for HN and if you want to join to speed up the process, you're Welcome!

https://www.acpul.org/blog/yc-happy-birthday-20

For those who don't have iOS, I started a Twitch stream for the vibe.

https://www.twitch.tv/guynpc

PS: I fear that I’ll never get into YC and in the future there will be no more startups, only an AI, and I’ll have to work as a battery cell in the Matrix.

ellis0n··on Skynet won and destroyed humanity
Yeah, 89 sec! Our bodies are too fragile, but our brains are so powerful that we can still ensure harmonious life for ourselves.
ellis0n··on Skynet won and destroyed humanity
I think that if we remove physical limitations like locks, banks, safes, RSA encryption or even a warm bath every day, bored apes would destroy itself instantly. There are people who constantly want to destroy or hack someone and if you gather them all in one place there would be a lot of them, and HN (Hacker News) would come from such places. Everywhere, there are limitations to ensure the system continues to live, taking the next step despite being constantly gnawed at and shot at, and AI has accelerated this process. Remember, the Doomsday Clock is already at 90 seconds.
ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
Sure, thanks for your concern. The war started back in 2014 and at that time I didn’t even know what to do. Now, I have some experience which I’m sharing.
ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
I think my text is disliked by the aggressors, while other good people simply don't see it. I think I'll write a book when all of this is over.
ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
Thank you for sharing and I'm glad you got out of that mess and recovered. That's good advice and I've been through something similar myself a while ago. Back then, I tried working in a taxi, but programming ended up saving me. Now, if things keep going this way and AI starts taking over IT jobs, it’s quite possible I’ll have to work as a driver for Uber, where there aren’t as many AGI robots yet.

For now, I still wanted to focus on building startups and developing humanity's economy, which is what I'm best at.

ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
And what’s next? Sleep on the street? Rent is expensive, I’ve already tried and it’s impossible without any income.

Sure, thanks for the advice, but I’ll need to work, not just travel. I need the same big monitor for work, a good chair, and usually these things aren’t available, so I end up working in terrible conditions.

ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
I agree, it's better to be closer to the Polish border. That's why I wrote that I need funds to be able to take any action. The last time such a move cost me over $10k and I also volunteered to help my family and others.
ellis0n··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
Hello from Ukraine and I need help.

The war in Ukraine has made it impossible to run my startup. Due to unlimited attacks it has become impossible to focus on anything other than the war. Of course, the war certainly needs to be stopped, but no one really knows how to do it correctly and I'm not sure anything good will come of it.

After 3 years of the war, my memory has started to deteriorate and I’ve encountered issues with work and finances. It’s hard to understand how anyone can work during a war and who thought of it, when the planning horizon is just until the next night and then hell begins.

I fear that if U.S. military support stops and the war continues, I will have to urgently move to a safer place.

I am urgently looking for financial help. I have extensive experience in web3 and can work in this field, but only with upfront payment and an immediate start, as my current situation doesn’t allow me to go through tiring technical interviews.

Here, I have created an open letter for companies and individuals who may be interested in my project. Thanks for any feedback.

The coin animation is non-quantum. I thought it was a bug and it doesn’t work as the author intended.
ellis0n··on Show HN: Play with real quantum physics in your browser
I watched how it works, but it seems the rotation is just an animation and a fake. There are two requests: /flip and /info. When you click mouse button, the /flip request is GET immediately and it returns a result of 1(eagle) or 0. After that the coin animation begins with requests to /info which always returns the same response for no clear reason. After several /info requests the coin eventually stops without receiving any new results.

Sublime is the best! I've been creating a new programming language ACPUL with Sublime for 10 years https://old.reddit.com/r/acpu/comments/1fxxjtx/acpu_mobile_d... .

I don't have the resources, so please add support for the ACPUL programming language. If Sublime had a good debugger, it would be even more powerful.
