el_io··on From Australia to Europe, countries move to curb children's social media access
Call it what you want, but spoiling children with digital devices before they can even talk properly and then trying to forcing everyone to upload their ID to random server (which will sell/leak that) is definitely a parenting issue.

el_io··on Hacker News but for independent blogs
Exactly. I prefer to open in the same page. If I want to open in new tab then I can always Ctrl + Click. I don't think I can do the reverse though.
el_io··on Banned book library in a wi-fi smart light bulb
It's good to see someone in the internet respect my countries discission to ban books related to feminism, atheism, one which talks about the rape in madrasha and many other which are shadowbanned.
el_io··on A dumpster arrived behind my university's library
What is even a fake book? Like it has a nice cover and nothing inside?
el_io··on Did Claude increase bugs in rsync?

el_io··on Failing grades soar with AI usage, dwindling math skills in Berkeley CS classes
> You go to a university because you are deeply interested in understanding the subject that you study. Doing the homework and the tests are just the "goalposts" to check for yourself whether you made progress on this.

There is only one classmate in my class who came to study CSE because they are interested in CSE. And since we all enrolled after AI became somewhat good at everything none of them know how to code. After two years of study I had to explain someone how to swap two number by drawing boxes. This are the things you learn in the first week if you're interested in programming.

My point is very tiny percentage of people study something because they're genuinely interested in that subject.

el_io··on Neanderthals ran 'fat factories' 125k years ago (2025)
I've heard exactly the same story about snakes, but that took place in British India.

Probably that (the one I heard) derived from this one.

Ladybird supports MV2? I had no idea they have extensions.

el_io··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
Ok. Now what?
el_io··on Tell HN: OpenAI silently removed Study Mode from ChatGPT
Haven't use 'Study Mode' in OpenAI, but can't you just ask it to act as a study coach or whatever you want it to be?
el_io··on Show HN: YouTube search barely works, I made a search form with advanced filters
YouTube search filter is godsend.
el_io··on Nvim-treesitter (13K+ Stars) is Archived
Can't you just disable issues?

I've seen DRF did that. Not sure if that is not possible for normal accounts.

el_io··on Delve removed from Y Combinator
Uber is not YC backed.
el_io··on The 49MB web page
Most in-app Ads can be blocked with simply changing your dns.

And most people don't even use adblocker when browsing normal site. I kind of had to tech my surrounding people to use adblocker.

el_io··on Some notes on starting to use Django
> mostly because it auto-imports all your models

Django does this by default now. Since 5.0 if I'm remembering it correctly.
