eks391··on A new AI game: Give me ideas for crimes to do
I haven't worked on GPT, but if I had to guess, it certainly is not a char-rnn. There are more sofisticated versions of char-rnn that use words chunks that work better (think of prefixes, etc), as well as some that actually use entire words. Theres one that isn't an rnn, that off the top of my head I cant recall what type of nn it is, but it is a list of all words with weights of intrinsic meaning (obv not manually made), combined with the traditional rnn use so grammar stays functional. I would suspect that GPT is a super huge one of these.

2 + 2 = 4 in any base system 5 or higher, not just 10 Anyway I agree with your argument and am not trying to nullify it with this tangential correction
eks391··on Ask HN: Why has quality of YouTube reduced drastically?
I'm not sure what he means by 'clearing' his fingerprint, but if you visit EFF[0], you can check if your fingerprint is at least random. I've only been able to achieve a random fingerprint on Brave browser. Even clearing all cookies/cache on your browser will not reset the fingerprint. To prevent metric collection, you can't be logged in and you need your browser settings set to block cookies for YouTube. [0] https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/

Facts. I went to InNOut with a friend because he swore by it and I ordered first. I got a tasteless burger and he got one that actually had food between the buns. AND his fries looked actually edible. I was confused, asked which options he chose, and he said something about secret menus which pisses me off. Why must I be prepared with inside knowledge for a store that claims to be fast and easy? I ate my crappy meal and dont plan on going back when there are other places that are full willing to show you what meals are available

Now to do it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke
eks391··on Tell HN: I was permanently banned from eBay in one hour
I also only use strictly throwaway emails. If a website finds it fishy, they will tell you while you are attempting to create an account (in which case I just dont use a random string and use random words instead). Back when I was in the coversion process, several accounts were frozen when i switched from a real to throwaway email. Each time I just emailed customer service with the custom email, they realized I'm not a bot and as long as I could pass dual verification (which I can because I'm me), they unfroze my account and occasionally apologize.
eks391··on Twitter set to accept Musk's $43B offer – sources
He said he'd provide the money if they could show how they would use the money to help. They refused because they were caught in their lie. Biden can't solve American hunger with 4T, 6B cannot solve world hunger. Throwing money around just doesn't solve problems
eks391··on I'm a security engineer and I still almost got scammed
A direct answer to your question, and depending on the cultures of where you live, you could say something like Hello, whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with? But that's very southern, so I could see many people not feeling that. I say Howdy, what may I do for you today?... Which I now recognize is also southern... But there's a lot of things you could say that distract from identifying yourself.

Along the topics others are replying with, I also don't answer calls usually, and have a call blocker so I'm only notified if someone from my contacts list is calling or if they are recognized by my network carrier as a verified business. Since businesses can also be spoofed, I still don't give any information and find out why they are calling, then politely hang up and call back myself, after first verifying the number in about to call is actually associated with the business.

The unfairly banned people have made several platforms, they just never blow up and you don't hear about them. It's like an employee gets fired from target, a well known and established company, so they make their own pseudo target and you're shocked that you've never heard of their small one Edit: corrected autocorrect miswording
eks391··on Dall-E 2
I'm excited for when that happens. I didn't think of the malicious uses, which now that you brought it up I can think of many, but I still think the pros are worth the cons

> It's like the person who built this has no idea why the Girl with a Pearl Earing is good art.

The people didn't program Dall E how to make art. They taught it to recognize patterns and create something by extrapolating from the patterns, all on its own. So the AI isn't a projection of what they think is good art, it's projecting what it thinks is good art, based on a prompt. The output is its best effort of a feeling, even if the feeling had to be inputted by a living person. So it's still art that's as good as the feeling that it came from-fleeting feelings being lower quality than those that required more time and thought

Research Deep Learning. That's the technique they are using to generate the images. Theres a lot of applications. Once you understand _how_ it works, look up Two Minute Papers to see what it is being used for. He covers more than just deep learning algorithms, but his videos on deep learning are quite insightful on the potentials of this technology.
eks391··on Ask HN: Beating depression with or without anti-depressants?
I do not have chronic depression (what you are describing) but I know many people who struggle with chronic anxiety or depression, so mental health is important to me. I spoke with a colleague who admitted to dealing with anxiety for two decades, which I recognize is not depression but there is some overlap, and the best summary would echo jemfinch's comment if you can find it below. It's really good. In more detail, here's the jist of the conversation I had with my colleague: It is lifelong, but not unmanageable. He tried to "solve" it for 15 yrs before he accepted that it would be lifelong. It is lifelong because anxiety (or discouragement in your case) is a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and your body is genetically programmed to overproduce the chemical in charge of misery. But you have a little control over environmental factors, so you can mitigate the extremely of it. The things in your environment that you have direct control over are your sleep patterns, eating habits, and exercise (with exceptions depending on certain disabilities, but you can try to work around those) These are the long term solutions but they don't remove the problem, they just reduce it. Sometimes you need a now solution when it still is too much. My colleague's now solutions are specific for anxiety, so I don't have a good answer for this, but two friends of mine who have chronic depression go on walks a lot when it's too much.
