eklavya··on Rust: State of GUI, December 2022
Flutter app with rust core works great too.
eklavya··on Fire Them All; God Will Know His Own
Depends on which parts you choose to look at. If you are insinuating that Indian startup ecosystem is more inflated than everywhere else and you strongly believe that Indian startup ecosystem is devoid of innovation, then I don't know what to say to you.
eklavya··on Fire Them All; God Will Know His Own
To uphold equality I need to be punished for the sins of my fathers at least 2 generations before me. I have stopped complaining and my children and grandchildren will learn as well.
eklavya··on Fire Them All; God Will Know His Own
You should research a bit before you say there isn’t an ounce of innovation from India. Very mainstream and simple example is UPI (google it). Tell me any system in the whole world which comes close in scale, ease of use and security.

You are discounting Indian institutions, take a look at the Fortune 500 c suite list and tell me how many of them studied at IIT/IIM.

Investment is a key requirement for enterprise. You will be surprised to see the startup ecosystem now since the investment is flowing in.

I 100% agree with the asinine focus on cracking the exam and not anything else. But then the ROI is too good.

eklavya··on Rust in the 6.2 kernel
I don’t know how many severed toes before the “elite chefs” realise they are not that special.
eklavya··on Indian Air Force inducts natively developed light combat helicopter ‘Prachanda’
Sure, I grew up with a moral system which teaches, all world is your family. Of course, you will feel closer to the ones you live with, just like any big family.
eklavya··on Indian Air Force inducts natively developed light combat helicopter ‘Prachanda’
No, no sales pitch needed. You either already love your community and your country or you don't. No one should force themselves or others to love or hate it.
eklavya··on Indian Air Force inducts natively developed light combat helicopter ‘Prachanda’
All love is irrational. I would still rather love. Some people stay because they care, no need to be disparaging of them. You and I would not enjoy the peace and comfort of the modern world without it because somebody is irrationally willing to live/die for you and me.
eklavya··on 0 A.D. Alpha 26: Zhuangzi
0 A.D. team amazes me. They keep churning release after release with such quality. There is even M1 support for this one. Keep up the great work team. Very grateful for your gifts :)
eklavya··on “I survived the TCP transition” (2013)
I seem to have never had a reliable and working mDNS on any OS. Would not recommend.
eklavya··on GHC 9.4.1 is now available
This is oft overlooked, Haskell is absolutely in a league of its own when it comes to concurrency and parallel capabilities.

I would highly recommend https://simonmar.github.io/pages/pcph.html regardless of which language you use day to day. It a treasure trove of excellent information.

eklavya··on Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
The point is that the iPadOS is not designed to be used with a keyboard but windows is. Having a touchscreen on this laptop is a useful/useless add on and not the primary feature.
eklavya··on Indian government withdraws Personal Data Protection Bill
How is social credit in PRC in any shape of form comparable to AADHAR (SSN in US)?
eklavya··on Ask HN: Where can I find small companies to work for part-time?
I am curious, why the weird requirement?
eklavya··on How I went about learning Rust
Wrapper classes should be equally good once Valhalla (jdk) lands, without introducing another pointer indirection.
eklavya··on EU approves legislation to regulate Apple, Google, Meta, and other tech firms
Replying to myself since it looks like the replies are making mostly the same point.

> what if fb wants an exclusive, no privacy App Store for itself? What about it? Let them do that. Let the consumers decide? I chose Apple only and only for better privacy controls in the OS, not in the App Store.

> dominance of chrome Chrome won because Firefox and IE were worse. A lot of improvements in Firefox are thanks to competition. Safari is still number one browser on MACOS. I agree with the point that google might make things incompatible for non chrome users. Then they will be hit via these same regulations.

eklavya··on EU approves legislation to regulate Apple, Google, Meta, and other tech firms
Exclusively Apple user here, couldn’t be more happier for the announcement. Keeps my favoured platform alive and innovative.

Btw, you can keep using App Store so I don’t understand the issue here.

eklavya··on Development Environments
Apologies if I misunderstood. It seemed like the ide features and why they were required only for Java was pointing at something. Probably not.
eklavya··on Development Environments
No, Java good doesn’t mean everything else is bad. Why would I ever limit myself in such silly ways :)
eklavya··on Development Environments
Calling IntelliJ and Java junk is probably an indication that you are inhibiting your professional growth.
eklavya··on Jupiter CEO Quits $68B Firm to Sit at the Beach and ‘Do Nothing’
Exactly, and if we keep idolising "the fisherman", the system becomes unstable. Also why would anybody? It's essentially stealing from other people. A welfare state should strive to provide for those who can't, not those who won't.

Before you misunderstand, I am totally in favour of universal healthcare, my country (India) has it. Pretty sure if we can afford it with a population of our size, the wealthy nations sure can.

eklavya··on Jupiter CEO Quits $68B Firm to Sit at the Beach and ‘Do Nothing’
Downvoters should at least explain, who pays the taxes for the universal healthcare, this fisherman lifestyle sure can’t.
eklavya··on Jupiter CEO Quits $68B Firm to Sit at the Beach and ‘Do Nothing’
Hmm, so how many of these fishermen can the system (other people) pay for?
eklavya··on Base 13-Inch MacBook Pro with M2 Chip Has Significantly Slower SSD Speeds
As some would say, it's the decoy model that nobody wants. Drives upsells for apple.

Edit: almost nobody

eklavya··on Linus Torvalds: Rust for the Kernel Could Possibly Be Merged for Linux 5.20
You are extremely lucky. You probably don’t need memory safety :)
eklavya··on A religious sect landed Google in a lawsuit
Must be ultra secret, do you need to be outside India to know about it?
eklavya··on Building a Cloud Database from Scratch: Why We Moved from C++ to Rust
You missed ZGC, that’s great.
eklavya··on A Kernel Hacker Meets Fuchsia OS
The computer doesn’t know whether it’s you or somebody pretending to be you. Unauthorised execution should be possible but should be off by default, that’s 100% better for consumers.

Sorry if I got your point wrong :)

eklavya··on Delhi suffers at 49°C as heatwave sweeps India
I don't know, definitely feels hotter this summer compared to the last two.
eklavya··on Nim Version 1.6.6 Released
Absolutely, I think there is a huge opportunity here. A rust+gc lang which has seamless ffi with rust would be a killer in my opinion.
