eklavya··on Plex to block all servers hosted at Hetzner
That could be it, the client is LG webos so not that popular.
eklavya··on Plex to block all servers hosted at Hetzner
I tried Jellyfin, doesn't work for most things, went back to plex. Everything just works. My use case is pretty simple, family photos and videos but somehow that was problematic.
eklavya··on An effort to ban caste discrimination in California has touched a nerve
If you think the comment was made in good faith with good intentions ;) and you read my reply above, it should be pretty obvious that I am talking about educated people discriminating on the basis of caste.
eklavya··on An effort to ban caste discrimination in California has touched a nerve
I don't understand how educated people behave this way. I have seen this in illiterates but modern educated people behaving this way is absolutely mind boggling.
eklavya··on An effort to ban caste discrimination in California has touched a nerve
Do you mean in India? If you don't mind can you tell me what years those were? I just want to see if I happen to live in a bubble or it was a different time (as in, sufficiently long ago for me to not see it).
eklavya··on An effort to ban caste discrimination in California has touched a nerve
I am sorry you have had such a bad luck with your company. All the education in the world can't teach basic human decency. You can probably take some solace in the fact that I have not seen any such behaviour in the Indian tech scene so far. Maybe give it a shot and come here (trade a different set of problems). It must be an absolutely horrible of a mix in the US for this to be 8:10.
eklavya··on How Indian artists transformed the Buddha’s absence into presence
I don't want to get into a war of "isms" Hinduism is much older than these isms and will outlive it. Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism like a sect like so many others. Hinduism is a collection of many sects. I hope considering Buddha an avatar of Vishnu is not meant for offence but the highest Honor.
eklavya··on How Indian artists transformed the Buddha’s absence into presence
Are you implying pushyamitra was driven by Hinduism to kill Buddhists?
eklavya··on How Indian artists transformed the Buddha’s absence into presence
You seem to have an axe to grind. If you are intellectually interested in the topic, there is no shortage of material on internet and YouTube.
eklavya··on How Indian artists transformed the Buddha’s absence into presence
Or a less inflammatory take, Hinduism absorbing stuff and evolving like it has for thousands of years.

You would be surprised.

eklavya··on India's Alphonso mangoes are virtually impossible to find in America (2018)
That mango capsule has paper thin peel and so much pulp, soooo goood.
eklavya··on Julia 1.9
But that needs to happen everytime rustc is updated.
eklavya··on CheerpJ 3.0: a JVM replacement in HTML5 and WASM to run Java on modern browsers
Could you elaborate on how it's bad compared to the alternatives?
eklavya··on India’s religious AI chatbots speak in the voice of god – and condone violence
That sounds pretty problematic unless you understand what Dharma means. Dharma is not religion, it's meaning is close to universal duty based on human values.

Can you think of any situation where you could be justified to take a life? Can you think of situations where all modern societies take lives for the greater good?

That answer is pretty rubbish though.

eklavya··on Element is one of fourteen messaging apps blocked by Central Indian Government
> Really? Rahul Gandhi (Opposition) was jailed for free speech?

No he is being prosecuted for a law his party created. He looses the MLAship by a law created by his party. He has been tried in a court of law. He wasn't plucked from the clutches of his mother and thrown in jail.

> Governemnt banned BBC documentary and raid their offices in Delhi?

It was a propaganda piece. Modi was tried in court by opposition and you should read the remarks by supreme court on the nature of the allegations against him.

Not commenting on the others since I don't know about it.

> Didn't this government bought as many as MLAs as previous 5 government combined?

Yes along with residential plots on Venus.

> Did anything happened to Adani? What should happen to him?

> Demonetization? 5G Spectrum? PM Cares? are not scams? No?

I would like to understand how blocking element suppresses dissent in India. Every month there is somebody protesting in Delhi with media coverage.

I would agree with you if the terrorism problem was more like that in the west. But people are killed by terrorists almost every week in India.

Oh boy, where do I start. It's precisely the policies of Congress that have damaged the social fabric since before the independence.

You would rather have that fool at the helm with rampant corruption, I am glad the majority thinks otherwise.

eklavya··on A bacterial culprit for rheumatoid arthritis?
My friend has RA, after being on medication for years where he would have nausea for at least a week every month. He stopped taking any medication altogether. He goes to Gym twice a day and keeps a strict diet (relaxed at times). He is way better since the last 4 years.

I am not sure I understand. How do I call android/ios camera, gallery, permission etc APIs?

eklavya··on Ask HN: What would happen if we prioritised all bugs over all new features?
You should not lose sight of why you have a business, you want to make money. I would suggest, do whatever makes you money in the short AND the long term. Don't worship ideals and chase fantasies.
eklavya··on BBC Modi Documentary Removal
Yeah, Indian judicial system is only fair and independent when it's time to bash modi for trying to undermine it.
eklavya··on A taste of pavex, an upcoming Rust web framework
This hexagon architecture looks a lot like a free monad interpreter.
eklavya··on Welcome to Comprehensive Rust
Really? Do you get compile time deterministic memory management while being much more high level than Go?

There are trade-offs, rust makes one, use it if it makes sense but these comparisons are just pointless. This whole thread is filled with such arguments. Sure use OCaml, Haskell, Go whatever suits your needs. But let's not pretend that they achieve at compile time what rust does.

Somebody is complaining about compile time, somebody says GC alternatives exist. No, if you are getting into Rust you pretty much know the trade offs. It's on you if you choose Rust somewhere where a GC, REPL providing alternative would have been enough. The miracle of Rust to me is that I usually find Rust high level enough to not have to bother with the alternatives most of the time. I would write my UIs in flutter and my web frontends in TS. I am under no illusion that a GC language would not be more productive in most cases.
