eklavya··on Microsoft and OpenAI end their exclusive and revenue-sharing deal
You seem smart and knowledgeable. Maybe you should reach the lawyers at these companies and then they can change the policy!
eklavya··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
I was sooo in your boat just a while ago. Recently (15 days) switched to an Asus NUC pro (mini pc) with intel 225h. I kid you not, I am running Almalinux 10, KDE on it, not even the latest/greatest. I have HDR, VRR, 120Hz, media acceleration, with dual monitors with different settings you name it. Everything works!!
eklavya··on First MacBook Neo Benchmarks Are In
I would invite you to read my comment again (take a wild guess what my main machine is from the list) and especially the comment I was replying to (like how the build quality is great for other laptops to still be running as a "server" and a capable laptop). My comment might start to make more sense than you think.
eklavya··on First MacBook Neo Benchmarks Are In
Yeah, I guess so. I was just wondering when people said it's great value, is it because they believe that the build quality (all metal) is the most important factor here. But then I can get an HP omnibook 5 oled for the same price with "almost" a metal body.

I started thinking, ok I was going to buy an iPad maybe, why not neo? It makes so much sense since my wife could do much more with it. Then I started looking at what the market has to offer for the price and it stopped making sense. The marketing does seem great on this. I am sure it makes a lot of sense to some people who wanted a cheap macOS laptop and got it.

I bought a macbook pro m1 pro. Its value is 25% in 4/5 years. I bought a second hand dell latitude 7/8 years ago, it was 3/4 years old then. Still running as a server today. A cheap acer bought in 2017 runs almalinux and is surprisingly fast and capable today, I had upgraded ram and put in nvme SSD long back.
eklavya··on First MacBook Neo Benchmarks Are In
But I have been and so many around me have been buying those. They are ok.
eklavya··on First MacBook Neo Benchmarks Are In
I was thinking the same but then I looked at what I could get for 70000 INR on Amazon and it would be crazy to buy this over the alternatives. What is the draw for this device given the price?
eklavya··on Fast-Servers
It is not a good idea, especially with the new chiplet/CCX processors.
eklavya··on Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR
I was using a dell S3225QC with 120 hz and even variable rate with macbook m1 pro. No hdr with 120 or variable rate though, only at 60.
eklavya··on What it means that Ubuntu is using Rust
So we will have a closed OS just like macOS and Windows but linux based. I don't see why it would stop all the other open source distros to exist.
eklavya··on Zed editor switching graphics lib from blade to wgpu
I wanted to check the hype, so I installed Zed and opened a go project.

Ram usage:

VS Code 580 MB

Zed 410 MB

I don't see a reason yet to switch away from VS Code, more feature complete and I don't care about scroll speed, it's good enough in vs code.

eklavya··on LineageOS 23.2
I don't know what's going on in this thread. Of course PKI needs some root of trust. That root HAS to be predefined. What do people think all the browsers are doing?

Lineage is signed, sure. It needs to be blessed with that root for it to work on that device.

eklavya··on My AI Adoption Journey
Right, now what would you say is the probability of getting a bug in compiler output vs ai output?

It's a great tool, once it matures.

eklavya··on Claude Code is suddenly everywhere inside Microsoft
I am not getting what that linked url is supposed to mean. It is a very decent business page where ubuntu is selling consulting for "your" projects and telling why ubuntu is great for developing AI systems.
eklavya··on India and EU announce landmark trade deal
I hope for our (India's) sake, it doesn't. We need to keep as much talent here as we can.
eklavya··on Replacing Protobuf with Rust
I would advise against it. Too much friction, try it, maybe you will have a different experience than mine.
eklavya··on Replacing Protobuf with Rust
That would make sense if protobuf was complex, bloated, slow. But it's not, so the question should be why not use it, unless you are doing browser stuff.
eklavya··on We will ban you and ridicule you in public if you waste our time on crap reports
Every time I hear any Indian trope, I find it interesting that it's only people in online forum who experience it.

Somehow none of my non/Indian colleagues over the course of more than a decade have faced these ridiculous situations. They must be unlucky.

eklavya··on “Stop Designing Languages. Write Libraries Instead” (2016)
I don't know ruby or rails so probably wrong on this but why does the author say no framework for Java web. How different is Spring from that?

They talk about the programmer which doesn't know neither cares about the language stuff. So what is Spring lacking from that perspective?

eklavya··on iOS allows alternative browser engines in Japan
Pretty damning evaluation of apple's capabilities to be sure that they won't be able to compete on merit! I don't believe that. So much apple software is absolutely loved.
eklavya··on Go away Python
Real world experience for the author which they probably lack in other langs. It would be an absurd statement otherwise.
eklavya··on AI will make our children stupid
Calm down. Hardly any drama except yours.
eklavya··on Microsoft Copilot AI Comes to LG TVs, and Can't Be Deleted
I am surprised it wasn't needed till now. This needs a lan connection and definitely will need access to local networks.
eklavya··on AlmaLinux adds btrfs support, a viable alternative to Debian
For a long time, there were no RHEL/CentOS ecosystem distributions with BTRFS support. Now there is a 10 year supported stable distribution which does. More options for linux workstations/servers.
eklavya··on Futurelock: A subtle risk in async Rust
That sounds interesting, what kind of actor use cases would require adding locks to actors?
eklavya··on Git: Introduce Rust and announce it will become mandatory in the build system
What are you on about?
eklavya··on Java 25's new CPU-Time Profiler
I have mostly heard these complaints from people who haven't used a java ide and/or do not know that jvms allow waiting for a debugger before starting execution (helps with all sorts of spring or whatever errors and boilerplate).

That said, there is a shitload of "enterprise" fuckery in Java, but those Devs would have made a mess of any codebase anyway.

eklavya··on KDE launches its own distribution
I would be surprised if anybody who ever used kde would confuse the two.
eklavya··on macOS dotfiles should not go in –/Library/Application Support
I have absolutely no opinion on "common good" or "standard" here.

I wholeheartedly agree about the containers part though, just have everything within a folder in a container somewhere so I don't have to keep googling where X stores Y and still failing half the time.

eklavya··on Debian 13 arrives with major updates for Linux users – what's new in 'Trixie'
Don't understand the downvotes.

Ublue family of atomic os, provides snapshot restore which helps exactly in these scenarios.
