Personally, I paid for a copy of Tears of the Kingdom when it came out, but only because I had a Switch I could borrow from someone to play it on - if I hadn't had that option, I wouldn't have bought a Switch just to play one game, and I just wouldn't have bought the game at all.
Had they released the game on PC as well as Switch, I would have bought it for PC, but that's not an option. As it stands, either you have to own an overpriced and underpowered console, even if you only want to play one Nintendo game, or you can pirate the game and play it on PC, and have a much better experience than on a real Switch. Nintendo is somewhat bringing this upon itself in my opinion and I don't feel much sympathy for their lost profits, real or imagined.
Personally I think that as valid as some of the issues with using Discord for FOSS are, there isn't a better platform for a community to interact with each other on. Sure, projects shouldn't be using Discord for everything, there should be documentation and stuff available online, but for fluid discussion and getting help from others users, I don't see any decent alternatives.
Also yeah, Steam Link would work too but Moonlight/Sunshine generally seems to work better.
Reading through the comments sections on MacRumors posts pertaining to the toolkit, plenty of people are seemingly very eager to jump to disparaging iFixit, their tools, and any repair store that doesn't have Apple's fancy expensive tools just because they're not doing it "the right way".
Louis points out issues with Apple products and somehow he's a bad guy for that? Informing consumers is somehow bad because you think that people should only buy iPhones? Give me a break.
I think a more likely reason for their success is that they're an easily recognizable series that's known to be expensive; people buy them for the clout. NFTs are fundamentally about clout, and one-off NFTs just don't have the same clout value when used as a Twitter profile or whatever, regardless of the art quality.
And in many cases, you don't have a choice to use Signal or etc. What if all your contacts are using iMessage? Sure, most of them will have SMS, but that's not guaranteed. There will always be edge cases of users who are locked in due to situations outside of their control. Shouldn't we be trying to make things less locked down for them?
Paid apps will have to be re-purchased, your Airpods won't work as well, your Apple Watch won't work at all with Android, you won't be able to message your contacts who use iMessage without SMS, etc.
iPhone owners tend to buy into the Apple ecosystem which ends up being a whole bunch of vendor lock in, and it becomes unreasonable to switch platforms. The ability to switch to Android certainly doesn't give Apple a free pass here.
For 8, cloud storage services like Backblaze B2 can mail you a hard drive with all your data on it. I believe with B2 you can also return the drive afterwards and get your deposit on it back.
