Motorcycles kill thousands every year in Nigeria. It kills more than cars and buses combined. Such business has been banned virtually in all state capitals in Nigeria for about a decade ago. Lagos state was the only major state where such was functioning until lately.

Please don't bad mouth Nigeria. This case is not yet fully understood and we can't make any conclusions yet.

Some of the things you said are correct. I won't dispute them but they are solvable problems.

Labour is cheaper in Africa than in China. What Chinese company spend to ferry a construction worker from China to Africa is enough to pay about 10 African workers in a year. China wants to to give Chinese jobs to Chinese people. However when it comes to manufacturing of plastics and other low tech products they use Africans. Why are they not importing labour from China? I had the opportunities to work in a complex environment where some Chinese companies operate. Local workers were far knowledgeable. But these companies would not allow locals to handle their core machines, something that is not harder than playstation games. Everything is written in Chinese and locals are not trained in such language. I have the honour to have visited Western countries, and I can't remember if they have apps that are not readily available in Africa. Africa may be underdeveloped but they have reasonably educated people. They maybe lacking core skill but they are not lazy and unfocused.

Bring manufacturing to Africa would really help grow world economy and would also end this current trade war. It may not be easy but it is possible. Africa has the cheapest labour you can find anywhere, hardworking people with strong sense of confidence. Africa is closer to Europe and America than China and India. Africa has strong cultural ties already with Europe and America.

Banking services develop along with businesses, and as the economy improves every sector would improve too. China was not built over night.

I think their core problem is that they moved so fast and they don't have defensible and unique product. They grabbed people off the street and attempted to turn them into coders. That can't work! Engineers are not made in the classrooms(diligent message) but people with great ability and curiosity. This kind of mentality cannot be developed when they package IT and DevOp as shortest cut to enormous wealth.

I would not blame Andela for everything happening out there. Most of the developers have never worked with US based companies before. They don't understand the rigor, efficiency, and cold blooded capitalism of such enterprises. Capitalism hears one message, and that message is profit and value creation for shareholders.

I see opportunities for the continent if they try to develop locally and solve local problems.

Why can't Andela pivot to consultancy and compete with the likes of Wipro and Tata?

I don't think this is correct. It favors those with capital and technology. The strong over the weak. And it increases the barrier to enter. Look at Africa(my continent) as an example of where free market leads to collapse of economy.

Who handles money well? This is not true. I live in a Third world and the educated are the most wasteful. They want to show class and style. They live far above their means.

I don't see it that way. This is not freedom at all. But throwing others out of your home turf while cornering others' markets. Business should be two way thing.

It also seems weaker in Africa. I am still waiting for someone to explain the reason for the situation.

You have done great for the community. You have helped programmers in Africa to get involved and exposed into something serious. You have helped to bridge the digital divide and also increase social mobility.
