egil··on GIMP doesn't rotate correctly
I suggest you file a bug at Gimp's bug tracker for an official answer. http://www.gimp.org/bugs/howtos/bugzilla.html
egil··on Why is Git better than Subversion?
It is also important to note that the git tooling has matured a lot over the years. In the beginning, people used wrappers such as Cogito - "Human-suitable Interface for Git"[1] because the command line interface was such a pain.

egil··on Prototypes Are Not Classes
Yet another shallow article describing the difference between prototypes and classes. Does anybody know of more in depth ones that also discusses multi-leven inheritance, polymorphism etc?
egil··on Renault ships a brickable car with battery DRM that you're not allowed to own
It makes it much easier to reposess the battery (and car if applicable) if the payments stop. Although I would not buy such a car myself, I reckon many potential customers wouldn't care. At the same time, those who care will probably either be anti-drm (a minority) or have a higher risk of missing a payment (not the target audience).
egil··on MongoDB is to NoSQL like MySQL to SQL - in the most harmful way
Earlier discussion: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6481526
egil··on Internet.org ... seems to be missing?
I guess that for many people, Facebook _is_ the internet.
egil··on How to make $100k in Open Source by working hard
"How to make $100k in Open core" would be a better title imho. After all, he makes his earnings from the pro additions, not the open part.
egil··on Why is FreeBSD deprecating GCC in favor of Clang/LLVM?
Linux is licensed as GPL v2 (only), so a switch to gpl v3 would require concent from all contributors and be practically impossible.
egil··on LibreOffice 4.1 New Features and Fixes
They are working on it one piece at a time. For instance, they refactored the way Calc store the cells in memory to avoid lots of pointer chasing.
egil··on Microsoft's 2003 patent application for the "Is Not" operator
You need to claim damages withing 6 years of the infringement:

35 U.S.C. § 286 Time limitation on damages

Except as otherwise provided by law, no recovery shall be had for any infringement committed more than six years prior to the filing of the complaint or counterclaim for infringement in the action.

In the case of claims against the United States Government for use of a patented invention, the period before bringing suit, up to six years, between the date of receipt of a written claim for compensation by the department or agency of the Government having authority to settle such claim, and the date of mailing by the Government of a notice to the claimant that his claim has been denied shall not be counted as a part of the period referred to in the preceding paragraph.

egil··on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 2 arrives for testing
For some of us, it already is. We just don't rant about it every time someone mentions Ubuntu or Unity.
egil··on The Pirate Bay's statement on PIPA/SOPA
Your mileage may vary of course, but Spotify definitely beats TPB when it comes to easy. Relatively cheap and extremely accessible. I entered my credit card details a couple of years ago and simply forgot about the negligible sum withdrawn each month. Such a shame it took the industry so long...
egil··on Why I'm a Pirate
Of course, but that implies that it is possible to pay for it. The copyright holders must adapt business models so potential customers can pay for a product they want, not some inferior DRM that hurts the customer. As long as piracy gives potential customers the best product, the incentive to pay is lost.
egil··on Linux Mint Developer Forks Gnome 3
While not a seperate product, you could run the old program manager and file manager from Windows 3.x by running 'progman' and 'winfile'.
