I think using maildir directly may be hard to squeeze good performance out of with emacs. I'd suggest trying the alternatives: for eample, IMAP with ~30k messages should work decently in Wanderlust (and I would assume gnus), though initial load is slow (way less than hours, though). Using mu (maildir utils) via search in wanderlust to load 30k messages take about 1 minute, but if you are using mu you should be searching, not loading an entire mailbox. So there are probably some options out there, but I'd avoid loading 40k messages from a maildir directly.
Could be modified to show, e.g. dired commands as well.
> I don't. After a while I found it's not worth the effort. I rarely make financial decisions based on how much I spent on beers and sandwiches, so most of these little things are just subsumed in Expenses:Cash.
Agree completely - when keeping track of expenses, it is only worth tracking the numbers that matter to you. If it won't effect your decisions, don't bother tracking.
If I address a mixed gender group, and I ask that "all the guys" raise their hand, everybody will know that I mean men only.

What mistake do I think you are making? You said: "It actually refers to the government's legal authority to mandate that privately owned businesses provide separate nut equal facilities for blacks". No law ever forced private businesses to serve blacks in the south until the civil rights act. They may have been forced to racially segregate, but no law every forced white southern business owners to serve blacks.
Are you implying there were a bunch of southern business owners who wanted to provide integrated service, but were unable to because of Jim Crow? That's what it sounds like, and it's so wrong it's astounding.
.. extension:: hello world
In markdown, on the other hand, you have multiple, incompatible versions which have entirely different syntax because there is no generic extension mechanism.
ReST feels more well thought-out, generally.
That said, I've pretty much given up advocating it, because markdown seems to have won and has so much more tool support.
Many people, it seems, haven't noticed that google is now placing ads in your "promotions" tab that look just like email: http://www.thewire.com/technology/2013/07/theres-easy-way-es...

Don't use this. Just don't.
To pick out just one of the many errors of fact and interpretation: linux has historically been GPL v2 only; this decision was not made after the release of GPL v3.
It's great that his "generation sees copyrights [as] a concept that should be much more restricted and have a smaller lifetime": I'm glad that he's so surrounded by the FOSS that makes this possible. But this possibility came about because of the work of free software advocates and developers. Reveling in your ignorance and disinterest really isn't going helping.
And if you think that it's a problem that Apple and the FSF (among others!) are clashing on issues like restricted bootloaders, tivoization, etc. -- well, I don't really know what to say. There's a reason that Apple and advocates like the FSF are on different sides here. I know which side I'm on: do you?
