eerikkivistik··on Show HN: TablePlus – A macOS client for relational databases
Good to know. Our team is evaluating it now and if everyone is on board, we will be grabbing a few licenses from you!

If it works as advertised, this might be one of the most pleasant surprises in a while. Will try it now. Been looking for a good alternative to pgAdmin.

Edit: Tried it out and it works really well from first impressions. Would definitely recommend trying it out as an alternative to pgAdmin.

eerikkivistik··on Show HN: *.temp.website – Host temporary static sites with a single click
Your description is apt. Bitballoon seems limited by the fact that it requires an index.html page. I want to provide a way to temporarily host a wider range of content in further iterations. Think autoindexing, download as zip, display as gallery etc. As for noscript, good point, I completely forgot about that.

Could you elaborate?
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: *.temp.website – Host temporary static sites with a single click
Actually that was one of the next things on my mind, adding something simple like Basic Auth to it.

Thank you! For me the use case is to show some work in progress demos/prototypes without messing around with git. Obviously this is meant for simple use cases, there are far better tools for static site hosting for more complex issues.

Hi, developer here. This is a small passion project to solve a simple problem - sometimes you just need to temporarily demo/serve something over http and be done with it. The idea is simple, you drag and drop your files (for Chrome and Firefox directories work too) and get a link in return, that expires in 24 hours. That's it. As always, feedback from the community is greatly appreciated and will be put to good use.

I am eagerly awaiting the Bobby Tables (https://xkcd.com/327/) version for eval()
eerikkivistik··on Ask HN: What did you work on in 2017?
A 3D design platform for education built on top of https://3dc.io, launching in January.
eerikkivistik··on Fast nnn file browser v1.6 released
Downloaded it and using it now. Thanks!
eerikkivistik··on Fast nnn file browser v1.6 released
I remember Total Commander from Windows back in the day, similar feature set to that?
eerikkivistik··on Fast nnn file browser v1.6 released
Going to give it a try now, been missing something like this on OS X. Any good alternatives I should try as well?
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: Nirvana Pilot Yume – A Modern Take on Skyroads
This is a game devloped by dev9k, inspired by the DOS cult game Skyroads. I gave it a try yesterday, really enjoyed the soundtrack and the gameplay. The story driven aspect is a bit slow for my taste though.
eerikkivistik··on App sizes are out of control
I think a few more years and we can finally stop bundling browsers. It's not like anyone wants to bundle a browser inside their app for fun. That being said, Crosswalk really solved some serious issues for my product so cheers to them.
eerikkivistik··on App sizes are out of control
Yep, agree with the image bundling issues. We have tried to keep our footprint as small as possible in our own product (3D modeling application https://3dc.io) and are clocking in at 8mb on iOS. Out of that about 3MB are icons/splash images and other media. Regarding vector graphics, we couldn't use them, as they cause bugs and flickering with css animations in iOS Safari. But we do generate everything we can procedurally (primitives, colorpicker etc.) which saves a ton of space.
eerikkivistik··on Ask HN: HNers who got their “Show HNs” on homepage, how is your site doing now?
Submitted https://3dc.io (a simple cross-platform 3d design tool) about 2 months ago, got a massive spike in traffic, that lasted for about 2-3 days. In addition we got some good and thorough feedback from the community. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14360921

It's possible that WebGL isn't supported on your device and our error detection fails to give you a message. Looking into it.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Thank you! What platform are you on and are you using the browser version or the native app?
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Adding google login in the next release. Basically you are missing out on a public profile/portfolio and the option to comment.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
True.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Oh boy. Getting that to work fast enough on mobile devices warrants an article of its own.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Thank you! A lot of that is on Apple as well, Safari with all its bugs is really fast on mobile.

We have wanted to upgrade to 23 ourselves for the new permissions API, but a lot of our users are still on Android 4.*, so we decided to keep compatibility for now. Although it is a pain in the ass if we need a new permission for say a texture feature, since half our user base gets left behind on an old version by not auto-upgrading.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Yes, we are adding more login options in the next update. But in the meantime, you can simply skip the login, it is not required. Fun fact, I don't use Facebook either, so I don't have an account myself.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Makes sense, we will consider adding a few decimal points.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
We played around with it a while back, but didn't quite get it right (visually), will give it another shot.

- precise editing (planned)

- manual entry of dimensions (planned)

- different materials and transparency (planned)

- library of common items (had multiple extremely long arguments about this, still no consensus on this)

- batteries, usb ports, etc (?)

- sub-mm scale (for 3D printing?)

- pencil support for ipad pro (not currently planned, if there is demand we could add it)

Thank you. Numerical input is on its way, probably a month or so.
eerikkivistik··on Show HN: 3DC.io – A dead simple cross-platform 3D design tool
Check back in a month or so, going to release 2 large updates.

Yeah, the behavior is the same, I meant it feels more natural on the phone :) I'll add it to our backlog, to take a look at it and maybe rethink the selection logic.
